The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) is a new development under construction near King Fahad Road in the Asahafa area of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia being undertaken by the Rayadah Investment Corporation on behalf of the Pension Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, consisting of 59 towers in an area of 1.6 million square meters. It will provide more than 3 million square meters of space for various uses, 62,000 parking spaces and accommodation for 12,000 residents. In 2011 it was the largest project in the world seeking green building accreditation

SEISMIC TEST RESULTS
• Subject to dynamic test with an acceleration of 0.80g with closed windows and 0.66g with open windows, the system did not experience any permanent distortion
• The measured interstorey drift, on the plane of the façade, was 58 mm
• As expected, the aluminum panels were not distorted at all: they were sliding towards the corners during interstorey drift.
• The distance between the spandrel panels remained intact, as they were sliding as a group following the movement of the slab.
• The corners slided subject to the expected uniform displacement

Advantages

The installation of the curtain wall panels may be conducted at any location of the building independently without the need of any sequential procedure.
Each glass unit or cladding panel can be removed without removing adjacent glass units or cladding panels.
The installation of the curtain wall panels can take place from the interior of each floor.
The glass panels are not bonded directly on the mullions of the structure of the curtain wall.
The structure of the facade of each storey are independent from the adjacent storeys to allow independent movement of each storey due to wind loads, seismic loads etc.
