Whenever there’s mention of a new project potentially coming up, my 12-year-old daughter likes to joke and starts counting on her fingers all the projects we’ve started since she was born.

12 in total, spread across two different countries and four different cities. Each time, going through the fascinating period of creativity but also the unpredictably painful process of renovation. One would think that after a few openings, this process would get easier. Well… it doesn’t.

The making of Istorja was a two-year journey full of surprises where the first months were spent stripping down all the previous ugliness of a building that was falling apart from all sides.
As we celebrate our 1 year, we look back at all the moments of feeling the high of creating something new, and all the more moments of holding our heads and thinking, “Why the F… are we doing this, and will it ever be worth it?”

And then we celebrate that day when we can finally step back, smile, and say that it was.
