Cyprus Maritime Academy (CyMA) and Mintra Proudly Announce Strategic Partnership to Advance Maritime Education

Cyprus Maritime Academy (CyMA) and Mintra are delighted to announce the formalisation of their strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will support the drive for innovation and excellence in maritime education.

Mintra, a new collaborator with CyMA, is set to help shape the future of maritime education and sustainability. The partnership underscores their commitment to the advancement of maritime education and the nurturing of future leaders in the field. Through this collaboration, Mintra will offer a Full Scholarship, covering all years of study, for a Cadet enrolled in CyMA’s BSc in Nautical Science program.

Kyriacos Patsalides, Director of Academic Affairs, Intercollege and the Cyprus Maritime Academy says, “We are honoured and grateful for the generous support of Mintra, which will significantly enhance the educational opportunities for Student-Cadets. We have chosen Darina Sotirova as the recipient of this year's scholarship. She is an exceptional young cadet with a bright future in front of her, we hope she will go on to achieve her dream of becoming a Captain, inspiring the next generation of female cadets.”

As an Educational Technology and Human Capital Management company, Mintra is committed to supporting initiatives that help the future of the maritime sector and promote inclusivity. Mintra has chosen to work with CyMA to combat two global issues facing the maritime industry: a decrease in qualified seafarers, and a lack of females on board and in leadership positions in the maritime industry.

As the industry explores solutions to fill the growing shortage of qualified seafarers and create a more inclusive future in the Maritime industry, it has never been more important to think of ways to mentor and foster growth from the foundation up. Mintra and CyMA signed the MoU to demonstrate their commitment to scholarships, creating and delivering maritime-related training courses, and collaboration in National and European Projects.

Empowering Future Female Leaders with Cyprus Maritime Academy
The maritime sector, historically dominated by men, is transforming as more women enter and excel in this industry. Female role models play a critical role in this transformation, providing inspiration, guidance, and proof that success and equality are attainable.

The recent strategic partnership with Cyprus Maritime Academy (CyMA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to address two global issues facing the maritime industry: a decrease in qualified seafarers and a lack of females on board and in leadership positions.

To kick start the collaboration, we have awarded a full scholarship, covering all four years of study, to Darina Sotirova, a talented young female Cadet enrolled in CyMA’s BSc in Nautical Science program. This support will ensure her professional development and highlight the importance of creating opportunities for women to lead and thrive in the maritime industry.

Representation is vital to help normalise the presence of women in maritime roles, from deck officers to engineers. It encourages young women to pursue similar careers, breaking down psychological barriers and societal stereotypes that suggest such professions are unsuitable for them. Experienced female maritime professionals provide mentorship, sharing valuable insights, advice and support to newcomers. This mentorship is crucial in helping young women navigate the challenges of a traditionally male-dominated field. Women in leadership positions also advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CyMA and the sponsorship of the female cadet, highlight our dedication to advancing maritime education and nurturing future female leaders in the field outside of the confines of our business. We have committed to an ongoing relationship that includes scholarships, creating and delivering maritime-related training courses, and collaboration in National and European Projects.

As the industry explores solutions to fill the growing shortage of qualified seafarers and create a more inclusive future, it has never been more important to think of ways to mentor and foster growth from the foundation up.

Η Δήμητρα Φωτοπούλου, δευτεροετής φοιτήτρια της Ναυτικής Ακαδημίας Κύπρου, ξεκίνησε την άσκηση της στην εταιρεία UNITEAM σε πλοία τύπου bulk carrrier.

Η Ναυτική Ακαδημία Κύπρου (ΝΑΚ) και η Petronav Ship Management ανακοινώνουν με περηφάνια την επισημοποίηση της στρατηγικής τους συνεργασίας μέσω της υπογραφής Μνημονίου Συναντίληψης (MoU).

Ως Ιδρυτικό Μέλος του Συμβουλίου Κυβερνητών της NAK και μακροχρόνιος υποστηρικτής της, η Petronav Ship Management συνεχίζει να διαδραματίζει κεντρικό ρόλο στη διαμόρφωση του μέλλοντος της ναυτικής εκπαίδευσης και βιωσιμότητας.

Το Μνημόνιο Συναντίληψης υπογραμμίζει την αφοσίωση της NAK και της Petronav Ship Management στην προώθηση της ναυτικής εκπαίδευσης και στην καλλιέργεια μελλοντικών ηγετών στον τομέα.

Βασικό χαρακτηριστικό της συνεργασίας αυτής, είναι η παροχή από την Petronav πλήρους υποτροφίας, η οποία καλύπτει όλα τα έτη σπουδών, για έναν Δόκιμο που είναι εγγεγραμμένος στο πρόγραμμα «Πτυχίο στη Ναυτική Επιστήμη» της NAK και του Intercollege. Η ΝΑΚ είναι ευγνώμων προς την Petronav καθώς η συγκεκριμένη γενναιόδωρη πράξη της, έχει ως στόχο την εκπαίδευση και εξέλιξη νεοεισαχθέντων αλλά και υφιστάμενων δόκιμων-φοιτητών της NAK.

Εκτός από το πρόγραμμα υποτροφιών, η ΝΑΚ και η Petronav έχουν ιστορικό ενεργής συνεργασίας για την άρτια εκπαίδευση και κατάρτιση των δόκιμων-φοιτητών. Αυτή η συνέργεια στοχεύει να εξοπλίσει την επόμενη γενιά επαγγελματιών της ναυτιλίας με τις απαραίτητες δεξιότητες, γνώσεις και αξίες για να ευδοκιμήσει στο δυναμικό και εξελισσόμενο τομέα της ναυτιλιακής βιομηχανίας.

Safe Bulkers, Inc. (NYSE: SB) and its CEO, Polys V. Hajioannou, in the context of the Company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) strategy are pleased to announce the launching of the Annual Cadet Scholarship Program for Students-Cadets in Cyprus Maritime Academy/Intercollege.

The program consists of five (5) annual scholarships that will be granted to Cypriot or Greek citizens enrolled in the 4-year Nautical Science program at Cyprus Maritime Academy. Each scholarship amounts to 5,000 Euros annually, covering the cost of the tuition fees and living expenses. The scholarships are renewed annually subject to recipients’ satisfactory academic progress and successful promotion to the next year. At the same time, the Cyprus Maritime Academy will provide a fixed scholarship amount to all Cadets that are awarded the scholarship by Safe Bulkers, resulting in the full coverage of the tuition fees.

When the program reaches its full implementation, the Company will offer scholarships to twenty (20) Students-Cadets in total for the duration of the 4-year program, valued at 100,000 Euros annually. Safe Bulkers will provide to all students sea-service training onboard its modern, energy-efficient, Cyprus-flagged vessels equipped with high-speed satellite internet connectivity and upon graduation full employment leading to a career as Deck Officers up to Captain Class A and prospective placement as Port Captains or fleet operators in the marine department of its Cyprus-based offices.
Safe Bulkers is proud to work with Cyprus Maritime Academy and support young people who are interested in embarking on a career at sea and excel as Deck Officers who could later promote to Masters. This scholarship program combined with Safe Bulkers Annual Scholarship Program for studies in marine engineering and other maritime fields, aims to enable and encourage young individuals to further their education and pursue a professional career in the maritime industry. Στην πλήρη του ανάπτυξη με τη σταδιακή προαγωγή των σπουδαστών στα επόμενα ακαδημαϊκά έτη το πρόγραμμα υποτροφιών της Εταιρείας θα χρηματοδοτεί συνολικά 20 φοιτητές με συνολικό ετήσιο κόστος τις 100,000 Ευρώ. Η Εταιρεία κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδών θα προσφέρει θέσεις Δοκίμων σε όλους τους υποτρόφους στα υπερσύγχρονα, με δορυφορική σύνδεση υψηλής ταχύτητας, υπό Κυπριακή σημαία πλοία της για την πρακτική τους εξάσκηση και μετά την αποφοίτηση πλήρη επαγγελματική αποκατάσταση που θα οδηγεί στο βαθμό του πλοιάρχου εμπορικού ναυτικού και προοπτική εργασίας στα γραφεία της Εταιρείας στην Κύπρο.

Το πρόγραμμα υποτροφιών Αξιωματικών Καταστρώματος της Safe Bulkers υλοποιείται με στόχο την υποστήριξη και ενθάρρυνση περισσότερων νέων να ασχοληθούν με ναυτικά επαγγέλματα και να εξελιχθούν σε ικανούς Αξιωματικούς Καταστρώματος με σημαντικές και προσοδοφόρες προοπτικές ανέλιξης ως Καπετάνιοι. Ως ο μεγαλύτερος πλοιοκτήτης του Κυπριακού νηολογίου, επιδίωξη της Safe Bulkers είναι η καλλιέργεια της ναυτικής κουλτούρας στη νέα γενιά και η προσέλκυση υψηλής ποιότητας ταλαντούχων νέων στελεχών στην κυπριακή ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία, συνδράμοντας έτσι στην ενίσχυση της κυπριακής σημαίας με ανθρώπινο δυναμικό επιστημονικά καταρτισμένο και εξειδικευμένο. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι προς το σκοπό αυτό η Safe Bulkers έχει παράλληλα καθιερώσει από το 2021 ετήσιο πρόγραμμα υποτροφιών για Κύπριους πολίτες ή Έλληνες πολίτες εγκατεστημένους στην Κύπρο, που επιθυμούν να σταδιοδρομήσουν στον κλάδο της ναυτιλίας.
