“Educational Adventure in Famagusta: Student Reflections...”

BAU Cyprus, the Travel Agency and Tour Operations Class - Spring 2024 successfully organized a day trip to Famagusta - Varosha, the Ghost City of Cyprus. The trip, coordinated by our student Vivienne, whose brochure and trip idea won, along with Fedor, Nathan, Anele, Mayowa, and Yvonne, invited other students from the faculty. This experience was not only an educational milestone but also a moment of relaxation and bonding with our instructor, Asst. Prof. Dr. Cathrine Banga and among peers. It served as a perfect way to end a long semester on a lighter note.

We are immensely grateful to the school management for their support in making this trip a reality. Their assistance allowed us to explore, learn, and unwind in the enigmatic Ghost City of Cyprus, providing a unique blend of education and leisure.

"Navigating Horizons: Tourism Students Engage with Industry Experts”

BAU Cyprus, the Department of Tourism & Hotel Management and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts (Faculty of Tourism) organized a meeting with industry experts from Concorde Hotel on May 17, 2024. During this event, Tourism and Hotel Management students specializing in Housekeeping Operations gained deeper insights into the operational logistics of the Housekeeping department. Meanwhile, Gastronomy & Culinary Arts students focused on enhancing their knowledge of Food & Beverage production.

The Tourism faculty is grateful to the staff of Concorde Hotel for partnering with us and providing the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. Special gratitude goes to Mr. Onur (Quality Control), Mrs. Pınar (Front Office Manager), and Mrs. Nilay ( Human Resources), as well as our staff members Dr. Hüseyin Değirmenci and Assist. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the “Truss Bridges” competition organized by the Bahçeşehir Cyprus University Civil Engineering Club!

The event kicked off with an inspiring speech from our Head of Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Seyed Muhammed Fard Mousavi. We also extend our gratitude to the esteemed professors of the Civil Engineering Department.

Following a seminar on Truss Bridges presented by our club leader, Rami Abdelrahim, the competition commenced with our students showcasing their talents. The goal was to find the strongest, lightest, and least member-used truss bridge.

The head of the Architecture Department at BAU Cyprus, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Eyyamoğlu, along with faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Semra Sema Uzunoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kozan Uzunoğlu, attended the 56th Meeting of Heads of Architecture Schools (Mobbig) held in Trabzon and hosted by Karadeniz Technical University in May.
At the Mobbig 56 meeting, themed "New Generation Learning in Architectural Education," various aspects of the role of architectural education were discussed to ensure that architecture students have a solid, innovative, and sustainable education. Topics included the innovations of the era such as Artificial Intelligence, New Generation Learning Models, and Communication with New Generation Students.

🎤 Music Performances: Talented artists graced our stage with performances that had us all singing and dancing along.

💃 Dance Shows: Mesmerizing dance routines added an extra flair of excitement to our festival.

🌏 International Day & Culture Food Stalls: We enjoyed a culinary journey around the world, savoring delicious dishes and celebrating diverse cultures.

🎨 Art Therapy: Our creative spirits soared as students drew their imaginations, creating beautiful works of art.

BAU Cyprus, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering Departments collaborated to organize an exciting "Sumo Robot Competition" with the presence of our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan, on May 30th, 2024. In competition, six teams, each comprising 2 talented students, competed with their custom-built robots. The robots were required to fit within a strict size limit of 15x15 cm and weigh under 1 kg. The competition rules were straightforward yet challenging: teams had to win 2 out of 3 matches to progress to the next round.
The competition was intense, and the level of innovation on display was remarkable! From sophisticated sensors to robust motors, our students demonstrated outstanding engineering skills and creativity.
Congratulations to the winning team, and a big shoutout to all the participants for their hard work and commitment! This event truly showcased the incredible talents and collaborative spirit at BAU Cyprus.............................................
BAU Kıbrıs Elektrik ve Elektronik Mühendisliği ve Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümleri iş birliğinde, 30 Mayıs 2024 tarihinde Rektörümüz Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan'ın katılımıyla heyecan verici bir "Sumo Robot Yarışması" gerçekleştirildi. Yarışmada, her biri yetenekli öğrencilerden oluşan altı takım, kendilerine özel yapım robotlarıyla yarıştılar. Robotlar, 15x15 cm'lik bir boyut sınırında ve 1 kg'ın altında ağırlıkta olması kuralına uyularak tasarlandı. Yarışma kuralları basit fakat zorlayıcıydı, fakat takımların bir sonraki tura geçmek için 3 maçtan 2'sini kazanması gerekiyordu.
Yarışma hem çekişmeli geçti hem de sergilenen yenilik seviyesi dikkat çekiciydi! Gelişmiş sensörlerden sağlam motorlara kadar, öğrencilerimiz olağanüstü mühendislik becerilerini ve yaratıcılıklarını gösterdiler.
Kazanan takımı tebrik ediyor, sıkı çalışmaları ve bağlılıkları için tüm katılımcılara büyük bir teşekkürü borç biliyoruz! Bu etkinlik, BAU Kıbrıs'taki inanılmaz yetenekleri ve işbirliği ruhunu bir kez daha gözler önüne serdi.

BAU Cyprus, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Club organized a technical trip for the students of the Electrical Engineering Department, Computer Engineering Department, and Software Engineering Department, to the Information Technologies Communication Institution (BTHK) on May 23, 2024. The visit started with a warm welcome from the technical team, followed by a series of insightful presentations. The first presentation traced the remarkable evolution of telecommunication systems from the early days of 1G to the advanced capabilities of 5G. In the following session, the focus shifted to the extensive array of systems managed by BTHK, detailing their programming and specific functionalities. After the presentations, students had the opportunity to explore various sophisticated equipment, including devices for measuring electromagnetic waves, radio frequencies, and the institute’s monitoring systems. The last part of the trip was a tour of the server room, where the technical engineer provided a comprehensive explanation of its operations and addressed numerous questions from the curious students. This visit offered a valuable glimpse into the complex world of telecommunications and the cutting-edge technology that supports it.

The Department of Political Science & International Relations and Faculty of Law students were given the stage to debate on three different topics that are affecting our world today.
We congratulate the winner team and all the participants who put an outstanding effort in organizing and the smooth running of the debate.

VISIT OF US JUDGES TO BAU CYPRUS
Retired Judges from United States of America (USA), Judges Matthew Williams, Julie Spector and Attorney Steve Fury, attended the closing session of the “Comparative Criminal Procedure Law” course given by Bahçeşehir University Board of Trustees Member Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey at Bahçeşehir Cyprus University (BAU Cyprus) Faculty of Law on May 25, 2024 and gave a seminar. The USA delegation, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey, also had a meeting with BAU Cyprus Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law Assist. Prof. Dr. Aydın Atılgan and discussed the possibilities of cooperation for professional training in the field of comparative and international criminal procedure law at the Faculty of Law in the coming period. Deputy Head of Law School from Greenwich University, Prof. Dr. Özgür Çınar, also attended the meeting online and possible cooperation opportunities were discussed with Bahçeşehir Cyprus University..............................

ABD’Lİ YARGIÇLARDAN BAU KIBRIS’A ZİYARET
Bahçeşehir Kıbrıs Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Mütevelli Heyeti Üyesi Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey tarafından verilen “Karşılaştırmalı Ceza Usul Hukuku” dersinin 25 Mayıs 2024 günü gerçekleştirilen kapanış oturumuna Amerika Birleşik Devletlerinden (ABD) emekli yargıçlar Matthew Williams ve Julie Spector ile Avukat Steve Fury katılarak seminer verdiler. ABD’li heyet ayrıca Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey eşliğinde BAU Kıbrıs Rektörü Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toycan ve Hukuk Fakültesi Dekan Vekili Yrd. Doç. Dr. Aydın Atılgan ile görüşerek, Hukuk Fakültesi’nde önümüzdeki dönemde karşılaştırmalı ve uluslararası ceza usul hukuku alanında mesleki eğitime yönelik gerçekleştirilebilecek iş birliği olanaklarını istişare ettiler. Greenwich Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi Dekan Yardımcısı Prof. Dr. Özgür Çınar, gerçekleştirilen toplantıya çevrimiçi katılarak Bahçeşehir Kıbrıs Üniversitesi ile iş birliği konularını değerlendirmişlerdir.

Tuesday the 07th May 2024, The Travel Agency and Tour Operations Students were opportuned to virtually meet with an Industry Expert – Mr Donald Hondo a Journey Expert with Getaway Specialised Tours and Destinantion Management company, Harare, Zimbabwe. Mr Hondo, a co-owner of the company has 29 years work experience in the Tour Operations, Tourism Industry. His passion for the Tourism Industry – Tour Operations was palpable, and it truly inspired us to continue pursuing excellence in our studies and future careers.
