**"We or Nature?"**

Back in 2019…

Myria once said:

“I am currently investigating my individual place in the world, exploring the relationship between being in and out of focus with nature. This curiosity about transparency questions whether nature has a valid and valuable role in our lives and how people react to their physical environment.

The materials themselves captivate me in creating transparency, so I work with layers, using the back of the brush to scratch and construct marks and textures of the leaf in front of the figure. The painting is installed with a clear acrylic sheet at the front, intending to encourage each viewer to see their reflection on the canvas and undergo an individual self-examination, becoming a part of the artwork and journeying through it.

Discovering materials physically and emotionally helped me capture a unique atmospheric scene of nature that conflicts with the human figure. Through focal points shifting between nature and an unknown figure, I created an object with a powerful presence that is simultaneously inwardly turned, capable of intense self-absorption. This shows that nature is not something beyond us; it is the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Placing a human figure in a natural field area feels unnatural and ironic in the 21st century. We must realize and acknowledge that we have exceeded nature’s capacity to recover from our brutal interventions.

The figure is the main focus of this painting since it is unclear whether it is moving outward or inward, whether it is turning or staying still, or whether it is a man or a woman; ultimately, this seems meaningless. Regardless of who cares about the environment, by destroying nature, we are endangering ourselves. This piece, titled "We or Nature?", carries an exaggeration with a strong dose of truth.”
