Today, we're featuring our Tester, Veronika Školová, who talks about her reasons for becoming a tester, the top three things she likes about Cleevio, and her pet! 🐍

❓ How did you become a tester?
🎙️ I realised that I have good problem-solving and logical thinking skills. I like to improve processes as it brings me a lot of satisfaction which is why testing felt like a good choice.

❓ What does your regular work day look like?
🎙️ First of all, I need a cup of good coffee to start the day right. At 8:00 am we touch base with my teammate Jaroslav Valášek and start investigating bugs across different projects. Each day is different in terms of challenges we’re solving and that’s beautiful!

❓ What’s the coolest part of your job?
🎙️ Before joining Cleevio, I haven’t had a chance to see how a mobile app is developed from scratch. Now I can watch the process step-by-step and be a part of the journey. This is really exciting!

❓ What are the top 3 things you like best about working at Cleevio?
🎙️ I especially like that everyone has the opportunity to learn new things here every day and that the team is really great! Cleevio is also a cool, modern company, so working here feels awesome.

❓ What’s a fun fact about you?
🎙️ I have a 3 meters long python as a pet. His name is Kryštof Hádek. But please, don’t ask me any questions about Python programming. 😅

We are featuring Oliver Pentek today who is our Backend Developer and who used to be a professional baseball player. ⚾ How cool is that?

❓ How did you start your career in development?
🎙️ I got a bachelor’s degree in Applied Informatics at the Masaryk University and that’s where I fell in love with Java. After taking three Java courses at the university I got a job offer. I took it right away and now it’s been almost 10 years during which I fell in love with Kotlin even more.

❓ What does your regular day look like?
🎙️ Usually I walk my dog, have a small breakfast and start catching up with unread conversations and emails over coffee. After that, I attend meetings, prepare technical specifications for my team, and solve operational stuff. I also write some code. After work I like to go for a walk with my dog, bike, meet my friends or just have a chill dinner with my girlfriend.

❓ What’s the coolest part of your job?
🎙️ Being able to devise and improve how things work under the hood where standard users can’t see them and through that help to improve the quality of peoples’ lives.

❓ How long have you worked at Cleevio and how do you like it here?
🎙️ It’s been around 1.5 years since I joined Cleevio. I like the way we work together with the team, and especially our open discussions where I feel free to point out things that I believe could work better - whether they relate to the tech we use or the company overall. I also like the bullsh*t-free culture where we focus on the task at hand and getting the job done.

❓ What’s a fun fact about you?
🎙️ I was on Slovakia’s national baseball team when I was younger. I still play a bit, but on an amateur level. I also enjoy fishing and sports in general.

We visited our brand new headquarters in Karlín, Prague last week and they couldn’t look better.

The space is airy, bright, and modern with stunning views of the city and the river from its panoramic windows. 🏙️

Everyone who came to the open house absolutely loved the place. We celebrated Cleevio's next chapter with champagne, cake, and… calling dibs on the best desk spots. 😁

The construction works have begun, and we’re looking forward to the office coming to life.

Needless to say, we absolutely cannot wait to move in too! 🚀

Today, we're featuring our Project Manager Tomáš Stibor who talks about his career at Cleevio, favorite things about his job, and what it took to join the team.

❓ How did you start your career in project management?
🎙️ During my studies at the University of Economics and Business I was thinking about a specialization that would suit me best. At the time, I coded websites, but I found out that the combination of IT and business works best for me. So I applied for the Junior Project Manager position in a small agency where I was responsible for the websites of big brands and Czech companies.

❓ What skills are needed to succeed as a project manager?
🎙️ I think the most important skill is maintaining good organization. That’s because as a project manager you are responsible for the budget, allocations, specifications, etc., and all of those things need to be properly organized in order for the project to succeed. Communication and technical skills allowing you to get an overview of how all the things work together are very important, too.

❓What’s the coolest part of your job?
🎙️ It’s having the opportunity to work on very diverse projects for different companies, from big international businesses to startups offering unique digital solutions. I also really enjoy working with smart people at Cleevio!

❓How long have you worked at Cleevio and how do you like it here?
🎙️ I have been at Cleevio for over a year and I love it! I like the flexibility of work and being able to be a part of multiple interesting projects. The vibe at the company is cool, it’s clear that people are open-minded and passionate about what they do.

❓What’s a fun fact about you?
I first interviewed at Cleevio in 2017 when there were just 20 people in the company. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to join back then due to my studies, but it really bugged me, so after 3.5 years I came back and joined the team. Plus, I’m not Lukáš Stibor’s (the founder’s) brother. :))

We had another Cleevio UpSkill Academy session yesterday! 🎓

Because we believe web3 is the future, we decided to dedicate this particular training to blockchain.

In his advanced presentation, our Blockchain Developer David Tilšer walked us through the details of NFTs and their application in our current and upcoming projects.

Christmas in June? 🎄

Why not!

When the pandemic restrictions prevented us from having a Christmas gathering in December, we didn’t let it ruin our plans.

Instead, we moved the Christmas party to the summer! ☀️

Yesterday our teams from Prague and Brno came together to celebrate.

We kicked off with a Treasure Hunt that put our ability to solve puzzles and remember facts about the capital city to a solid test.

After that, we all met at the Balcony Bar for a party packed with unforgettable moments - from our CEO David's speech, to a raffle, gifts and having a great time together, it was definitely a night to remember. 💚

Here’s to more events like this and more time together! 🥂

Today, we're featuring Karolína Klepáčková who's our Android Team Lead. 📱

See what Karolína had to say about her career in Android development, working at Cleevio, and... publishing a book as a typographer! 📚

❓ How did you start your career in Android development?
🎙️ I was still at the university when a friend told me of an Android developer opening at their company. At first, I thought they wouldn’t accept me, but they did, even without any previous experience. I immediately liked Android, mainly because it’s a living, ever-changing platform that combines UI with complex logic.

❓ What does your regular day look like?
🎙️ In the morning I make coffee, have meetings, catch up on Slack news, and answer emails. After lunch, I do coding and have another round of meetings. Then, I make estimations for the upcoming projects and implement the last changes in the code. After dinner, I check if anyone from the team needs my help, and if so, dive into this ASAP. It might seem monotonous, but the meetings with my colleagues give me a big energy boost!

❓ What’s the coolest part of your job?
🎙️ There’s tons of things that are great about my job. For one, I am able to work and travel - I’m not tied to the cities where the offices are. But the thing I enjoy most is my teammates. They are smart, open to new challenges and always willing to help, even when they have a lot of work. We motivate each other to keep improving.

❓ What would you recommend to someone who’d like to join your team?
🎙️ Think big and be open-minded. Android development is not just about coding and learning new approaches. The best Android developers do more than that - they take care of the entire product and can take a detailed look at their code to validate implemented changes in terms of their impact on the rest of the application.

❓ What’s a fun fact about you?
🎙️ I grew up in a family of bookbinders. Because I helped out in the workshop from a young age (which sometimes felt like a detriment 😁), I learned how to handcraft a book from the very beginning to an appealing cover. I also published one book myself as a typographer! However, the real master is my mom who can make 3x3cm mini books. I haven’t been in the business for as long as my dad (sursum.cz), but know that books have and always will shape my life.

This week, our Head of Blockchain Ondřej Macháček and Blockchain Developer David Tilšer gave a presentation at SPŠE Ječná 🏫

The topic?

Blockchain and related solutions, such as , , and . We also dove into the most recent blockchain trends, and discussed what it takes to succeed as a developer in this field. 👨‍💻

We finished off with a fun knowledge quiz and a very engaged discussion with the students.

Staying in the villa in Portugal brought our team closer and gave us the opportunity to make plenty of great memories together.

⭐ Kristýna
One wonderful memory is finding out how talented our colleagues are outside of work. We spent nice evenings in the garden after cooking dinner together where some team members were playing guitars and singing. It was also great to see everybody taking care of each other - someone would buy croissants in the morning, someone would make coffee, others would plan after work activities, etc. - teamwork at its best!

⭐ Tomáš
I enjoyed the car trips we did together. Driving through the nice Portuguese country roads, listening to music, trying to catch a sunset next to the ocean, and living the moment.

⭐ Veronika
I will never forget the feeling when I first saw the Atlantic Ocean. I also like to remember the Hugo bar where we went to dance 😁 My dream of working from abroad came true - that's my biggest memory!

⭐ Tomáš
When it was sunny, we would go to the front yard with the guys to play frisbee. Just throwing the disc, chilling, enjoying the sun, and not worrying about any problems was great.

My most favourite memory was when we were travelling together and just goofing around!

Today, we’re featuring our colleague Thành Đỗ Long - a keen traveler, adventurer, and also an iOS Developer at Cleevio!

❓ How did you start your career in iOS development?

🎙️ Throughout my career, I’ve held various positions that allowed me to gain experience in designing, front-end and back-end development. While this was valuable for my growth, I felt like I wanted to have a more direct impact on the end-user, and this is how I’ve decided to pursue a career as an iOS mobile developer. I can apply knowledge from my previous jobs to create user-centric & aesthetic apps.

❓ What does your regular day look like?

🎙️ It depends on the day and where I’m staying at that moment, so I’ll share a general overview! A typical workday begins at a co-work place. With my daily shot of caffeine, I catch up on messages in Slack, and then I start focusing on my tasks. I have internal and client meetings, review codes and spam my colleagues with memes. And because I usually stay in different places, I try to network with co-workers.

❓ What’s the coolest part of your job?

🎙️ At Cleevio, we have the freedom to manage our schedule and workload, which allows me to do my job while having a nomadic lifestyle. It doesn’t matter where you work as long as you do a great job.

❓ What would you recommend to someone who’d like to join your team?

🎙️ Don’t be afraid to join one of the most diverse teams in the company. Despite the fact that we are a small squad, we have people from Peru (actually two of them), Vietnam, and Czechia. The best part is that we are not just team members. We have your back, whether at work or in life.

❓ What’s a fun fact about you?

🎙️ Once I decided to go hiking. Unfortunately, I miscalculated the hiking time and ended up arriving at my final destination in absolute darkness. Long story short, I had to hitchhike to get back to my hostel, and after a few hours of walking and no cars stopping for me, I was already planning my last will and memorial. But thankfully, a police car pulled up. They didn’t speak English, but when I showed them my hostel address, they told me to get in and gave me a ride. And that’s how they saved my poor life. 😅

Last week, Cleev.io teamed up with the law firm Havel & Partners to deliver an online event dedicated to the legal aspects of blockchain in the Czech Republic. 🇨🇿

The hosts - Cleev.io's Ondřej Macháček and David Tilšer together with Havel & Partners' Pavel Amler and Tomáš Korotvička - explained the basics of blockchain, from what it is to how it works.

The viewers had a chance to learn how the blockchain technology is used in practice and discover the functionalities of the associated technologies, such as NFTs or smart contracts.

The speakers also discussed the laws and regulations governing cryptocurrencies and NFTs - a pretty unfamiliar topic for all those new to the world of blockchain!
