12. Julia Wawrowska (Poland)

Julia Wawrowska is Polish violist living in Zurich, where she has been studying the Master Specialised Performance Soloist programme at the Zürcher Hochschule der Kunst in Switzerland under the tutelage of Lawrence Power since 2023. She has performed with artists such as Lisa Bathiashvili, Sergey Malov, and the Karajan Academy der Berliner Philharmoniker. Her education and artistic activities are focused on both solo and chamber development. She pursued her bachelor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under Walter Kuessner and at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under Katarzyna Budnik.

She is a laureate of international competitions, including the first Prize at the Contemporary Music Interpretation Competition ZHdK is solo category, Second Prize and Best Performance of the Compulsory Piece Award at the XI Jan Rakowski International Viola Competition in Poznan and first prizes at France Musik Wettbewerb and F***y Mendelsohn Internationale Wettbewerb as a member of the piano quartet Euphorie Quartet based in Berlin. Julia made her debut as a soloist in 2022 with the Zielono-Górska Philharmonic. She has been a recipient of scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Poland and the Deutschland Stipendium. Julia has been featured in international festivals such as the Davos Festival, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, Kronberg Academy, La F***e Journee or Emanacje Festival.

Since 2022, she has been supported by Pirastro as an Echo Arts Pirastro Young Artist. She plays an instrument created by Jerzy Wykpisz in 2018 New York.

11. Ayaka Taniguchi (Japan)

Japanese violist Ayaka Taniguchi is enthusiastic about developing mutual
communication between the player and audiences thorough her performances. To
achieve that objective, she is studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende
Kunst Frankfurt am Main in class of Prof. Tabea Zimmermann.
As a soloist, through many concerts and recitals, she has been working on a
variety of pieces from baroque to modern music. The recent highlight is the
performance of Hindemithʼs Kammermusik No.5 (Viola-Concert) with an orchestra in
August 2023 in Japan. She has received several awards, including the 1st prize at
the 74th Tokyo International Association of Artists (TIAA) Freshman Concert and the
1st prize at 75th TIAA All Classic Music Concert. She is also active in the chamber
music. In June 2024, her Clarinet Trio won the 1st prize of the Wettbewerb um den
Ina und Gustav Lenzewski-Stiftungspreis für Kammermusik.
She is also fortunate to have the opportunities to perform chamber music with internationally renowned musicians including Lucas Fels, Tim Vogler, Janet Sung,
Alexander Hülshoff, Katsuya Matsubara, Imai Nobuko, and Tabea Zimmermann. In
October 2022, she participated as a member of the Production Berliner Barock
Solisten with members of Berliner Philharmoniker.
She has experienced the participation to the several music festivals and academies. It involves Rheingau Musik Festival 2024, 38th Kirishima International Music Festival, Viola Academy supported by Ono Culture Foundation, Tamba Sasayama viola masterclass, and learned from Nobuko Imai, Walter Küssner, Veit Hertenstein, Wenting Kang and Nian Liu. She is receiving the Villa Musica Stipendium from September 2024.
She was born in Japan, and she entered the Tokyo University of the Arts in April 2021 and learned viola from Prof. Kazunori Kawasaki. Since October 2023, she has been enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main.

10. Jasper Sitte (Germany)

Born in 2001, began playing the violin at the age of three and was accepted into the education programme at the Folkwang Music School in Essen in 2007 as a pupil of Tatjana Babuschkina. At the age of eleven, he became a junior student of Prof. Helge Slaatto at the Münster University of Music. In 2018, he switched to the viola and continued his junior studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts Essen with Prof. Emile Cantor, with whom he began his bachelor's degree in the winter semester 2020/21.
In 2023, he switched to the Lübeck University of Music to study with P. Sachse and L.Eckels. Parallel to his studies, he attended masterclasses with Ch. Tetzlaff, H.Schneeberger, A. Arad, F. P. Zimmermann, T.Masurenko, T. Riebl, H. Schlichtig, V.Hertenstein, N. Imai and Lars Anders Tomter, among others, and took part in workshops such as Musiktage Montabaur, projects by Ensemble Musikfabrik Köln
and chamber music courses organised by Jeunesses Musicales and Kronberg
Academy.
He has won first prize several times at the national "Jugend musiziert" competition. The „Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband“ honoured him with sponsorship awards in 2014 and 2015, he received the Manfred Vetter Foundation Prize for Art and Culture in 2018, the Fritz Volbach Prize in 2019 and the Chursächsische Philharmonie Young Talent Award in 2022.
He is a scholarship holder of the Hartwig Zumwinkel Foundation, the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now organisation and the Saline Royale Academy.
As a soloist he gave concerts at the Kunstsommer Arnsberg, the Ensemblia Festival, in Calabria, in St. Petersburg and at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr etc. In 2013, he played as a guest member of the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra in a family concert at the Philharmonie Essen. In 2017, he was accepted into the German National Youth Orchestra.
In 2022, he performed Friedrich Benda's Viola Concerto No. 3 as a soloist with the Chursächsische Philharmonie. In the 2023/24 season, he will be a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Philharmonisches Orchester der Hansestadt Lübeck as an orchestral substitude.

9. Alice Sinacori (Belgium)

Alice Sinacori received her initial violin lessons from Elisabeth Wybou and continued her training with Véronique Bogaerts in the young talents class at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She then studied at Codarts in Rotterdam under Igor Gruppman and Vesna Stefanovic-Gruppman.
In addition to her violin studies, she developed a passion for the viola and decided to study with Leo De Neve at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in viola at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where her professors are Marjolein Dispa and Frederik Boits.
Alice has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Lorenzo Gatto, Marc Danel, Diederick Suys, Tatjana Mazurenko, Razvan Popovici, Mathis Rochat, Roman Spitzer, Timothy Ridout, Nobuko Imai, and Klaus Makela.
In 2021, she won first prize in her category at the Rudolf Barshai String Competition.
Alice is passionate about both orchestral and chamber music. She has played with the
European Union Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, and the Netherlands Youth Orchestra, and is a member of the Firgun Ensemble.
During the 2021/2022 season, she participated in the academy programs of the Belgian National Orchestra and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. She has recently completed a year-long academy program with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

8. Seoyeon Ryu (South Korea)

Seoyeon Ryu is 21 years old and studying at the College of Music, Seoul National University. Seoyeon made her first recital debut at age 16 with the support of company called Kumho (2019 Kumho Prodigy Recital) in Korea.
In 2022, she won the first prize at the Johansen International Competition (JIC) and was invited for the Morningside Music Bridge as an entity of JIC winner in the United States.
Since then she won the first prize in the Birmingham International Competition in the United Kingdom, the International Music Competition in France, the Clara Schumann International Competition in Austria and won the 2nd prize in the Caneres International Competition in Austria in 2022.

7. Karolina Pawul (Poland)

Born in Warsaw in 1998, received her first violin lessons at the age of 7. After some competition successes, she began playing the viola at the age of 16. She immediately won first prizes at the National Viola and
Double Bass Competition (2014), III. Meeting of young viola players in Skierniewice, National Competition of Stringed Instruments for Youth (2015), 19th International
Competition of Stringed Instruments in the Name of Bohdan Warchal (2015), l. Viola
review on behalf of Tadeusz Gonet and National Viola Competition on behalf of
Dominik Rutkowski (2016).
As a soloist, Karolina performed with the China Philharmonic Orchestra in the Forbidden City in Beijing at the Morningside Music Bridge Competition in 2016, where she also received lessons from Wang Shaowu, Teng Li, Steve Tenenbom, Emlyn Stam, Atar Arad, Sheng Li and Roberto Diaz . She had further solo appearances in the Polish Radio Studio, in the Warsaw Philharmonic, with the
Sinfonietta Cracovia, in the Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music and as part of the rbb program “The Graduates” in Berlin. In 2022 she played as a soloist with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic.
Since the winter semester of 2017/18, Karolina has been studying with Prof.Hartmut Rohde at the University of the Arts in Berlin. She receives chamber music lessons in various ensembles (string trio, string quartet, piano quartet) from Prof. Eckart Runge, among others. Since 2019 she has been principal violist of the Berlin University of the Arts Orchestra. From 2018 to 2020 Karolina was principal viola of the European Union Youth Orchestra. She played under conductors such as Manfred Honeck, Gianandrea Noseda, Stephane Denève, Vasily Petrenko and Valery Gergiev. Karolina has been a member of the Chamber Philharmonic Metamorphosen Berlin since 2022.
From 2014 to 2017 she was a scholarship holder of the Krajowy Fundusz na rzecz Dzieci, from 2018 to 2020 of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and she has been a scholarship holder of the Paul Hindemith Society in Berlin since 2018. From March 2024 she has a temporary contract at the Dresden Philharmonic.

6. Takumi Nozawa (Japan)

Born in 1994, Takumi Nozawa started studying violin at the age of four. He was admitted to the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2012 where he studied with Natsumi Tamai. Takumi received his Master of Music in viola performance at the age of 21 from the Tokyo University of the Arts as the recipient of the Acanthus Prize.

An avid performer and as a member of Tana Quartet, Takumi has performed in major concert halls across Europe including Flagey and Bozar in Brussels, Musée de l'Orangerie, la Maison de la Radio et de la Musique, Philharmonie de Paris, Cité de la musique in Paris. He has benefited from the guidance of renowned artists such as Aki Saulière, David Quiggle, Raphael Bell, Yuko Mori, Heiichiro Oyama, Gabor Takacs Nagy, Gregor Sigl and has been a member of the Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble since 2013. As a collaborator, he has performed side by side with renowned artists such as Augustin Dumay, Lorenzo Gatto, Stephan Picard, Aki Saulière, Mark Gothoni, David Quiggle, Frans Helmerson, Philippe Graffin, Gary Hoffman, Philippe Graffin and Miguel da Silva.

The Summer of 2022 includes performances at the Waterloo Festival in Belgium, Verbier Festival in Switzerland and concerts in France. After meeting Miguel da Silva in 2017, Takumi continued his studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève and became an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in 2020 under the mentorship of Miguel da Silva.

5. Gatien Leray (France)

Gatien began his musical education at the Conservatoire de Thionville in France and it was there that he starts to play the viola at the age of 7.
In 2019, after obtaining, at the age of 17, his French Baccalauréat Economics and Social Sciences with honors, he joined the class of the violist Miguel da Silva at the Haute Ecole de Musique of Geneva. From September 2021 to June 2022, he also followed the Annual Course Diploma for Soloists, at the Brescia’s Talent Music Master Courses in Alexander Gordon’s class. In June 2022, he was awarded the Bachelor of Arts from the Geneva HEM and joined the International Menuhin Music Academy in Rolle, Switzerland, where he studied with Gérard Caussé and Ivan Vukcevic. He continued his studies in these two institutions.
In June 2024, he was awarded the Master of Arts in Specialised Music Performance Soloist with distinction. With his passion for the solo and chamber music repertoire, Gatien has participated in a range of festivals and academies: Accademia Chigiana (Siena), Villars Music Academy (Villars-sur-Ollon), Virtuoso & Belcanto (Lucca), Accademia Stauffer (Cremona), Triple Viola Masterclass (Blonay), Verao Classico (Lisboa), Académie
Ravel (Saint- Jean-de-Luz), Académie musicale de Villecroze, Tibor Varga (Sion) and has thus benefited from the guidance of Tabea Zimmermann, Lawrence Power, Nobuko Imai, Tatjana Masurenko, Jean Sulem, Hartmut Rohde.
In the field of chamber music, he has most notably worked with Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Valentin Erben and Bruno Giuranna.
He has been invited to festivals such as the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, the Rencontres Internationales d'Evian and the Festival Pablo Casals, sharing the stage with many renowned musicians including Renaud Capuçon, Gérard Caussé and
Clemens Hagen.
As a guest artist at the 77th Geneva Music Competition in the flute chamber music semi-final, he had the pleasure of performing Le Chant de Linos composed by André Jolivet.
In 2023, he was awarded the Hirschmann scholarship.

4. Sumin Kim (South Korea)

Sumin Kim is a violist with extensive repertoire coverage, including solo, chamber music, and orchestra. Born in Seoul, she began playing string instruments with violin at age eight and won several major competitions. Since 2020, she has expanded her musical reach to the viola and been mesmerized by its deep sounds which led to her full devotion to the instrument.

As a violist, she was invited to Verbier Festival Academy, Kronberg Academy Masterclass, and Heifetz International Music Institute. She played multiple chamber music, including WRTI Live Radio performance, and played in the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Juilliard 415 Period-Instrument Ensemble.

Sumin studied viola with Steven Tenenbom at The Juilliard School and violin with Aaron Rosand, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Arnold Steinhardt, and Midori at the Curtis Institute of Music. She is pursuing her Post-Baccalaureate diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music as an Edna Harkness Fellow with Hsin-Yun Huang and Misha Amory.

3. Arcan İsenkul (Turkey)

Arcan İsenkul, (2005, Ankara, Turkey) started his music education in 2014 at the Bilkent University Music Preparatory School in Ece Akyol's viola class. In 2023, he graduated from the same school in Cavid Cafer's class.

He received several prizes in national and international soloist and chamber music competitions; as the "29th Young Musician International Competition 'Città di Barletta' (Barletta, first prize) and the 9th International Young Musicians Music Competition (Verona, first prize).

Between 2017-2019 he participated in the Luzerne Music Center in the USA. During this time, he took solo, orchestra and chamber music lessons and took part in concerts. In 2018, he won the Concerto Competition and performed as a soloist with the festival orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra, Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra, Başkent Chamber Orchestra and Aurora Chamber Orchestra. He was chosen as one of the six composers to take part in the MATA Jr. His piece “Heves” was performed by the Bergamot Quartet in Brooklyn, New York. He participated in festivals including the Verbier Festival and the Schwetzingen Festival. He took part in the Concertgebouworkest Young 2022 and in May 2024, he gave concerts as chamber orchestra “String Fling” with the Concertgebouworkest Young participants in Amsterdam.

In June 2024, he participated in the Yellow Barn “Young Artists Program”in the USA and took chamber music lessons and gave concerts during the festival.

He has taken masterclasses from Amihai Grosz, Tatjana Masurenko, and Lise Berthaud, among others. Since 2023, he has been studying at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Tabea Zimmermann.

2. Brian Isaacs (USA)

American violist Brian Isaacs is based in Berlin as a member of both the Karajan-Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker (mentored by Sebastian Krunnies) and the class of Tabea Zimmermann (Konzertexamen, Frankfurt HfMDK).

Brian has received awards and prizes from institutions such as the Verbier Festival Academy, Yale University, Frank Huntington Beebe Fund, and international competitions including Grunewald, Nedbal, and Rubinstein. He has benefited from working in masterclasses with violists such as Misha Amory, Yuri Bashmet, Noemie Bialobroda, Ettore Causa, Nobuko Imai, Lawrence Power, Antoine Tamestit, Steven Tenenbom, Lars Anders Tomter, and Tabea Zimmermann.

An avid chamber musician, Brian’s festival appearances include Four Seasons, Gstaad String Academy, La Jolla SummerFest Fellowship, Methow Valley, NUME, Taos, Thy, Verbier Festival Academy, Viridian Strings, and Yellow Barn.

A native New Yorker and graduate of Yale University, Brian received his MM in Viola Performance, studying with Ettore Causa, and his BA in Sociology. He plays on a viola made by Douglas Cox in Brattleboro, VT, on generous loan from the Virtu Foundation.

1. Momoko Aritomi (Japan)

Momoko Aritomi was born in Japan in 1996 and after attending from Tokyo University of Arts, she came to Vienna to study Viola at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she was taught first by Prof. Wolfgang Klos as well as Prof. Ulrich Schönauer and then by Prof. Thomas Selditz.

She graduated with honors in July 2022, and served as teaching assistant to Prof. Thomas Selditz. Her achievements include the 1st place at the 2013 Japan Player's Competition, 2nd place at the 2019 Anton Rubinstein International Competition, 1st place at the Vienna Dichler Competition, 3rd place at the16th Tokyo Music Competition, 2nd place and special prize of the Romanian Embassy at the Romanian International Music Competition, and 2nd place at the Johannes Brahms International Competition.

She received a scholarship from the Anny Felbermayer Fund for the academic year 2019/2020, the Josef & Harrietta Krips Scholarship from Switzerland 2020 and the HFP Young Artist Award in Vienna 2022. From 2022-2024 she a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

We are looking forward to meet our 2022 Laureate Kyungsik Shin again in Prague during the 6th competition in October. He will be playing the laureate recital on October 5th, 2024 in the beautiful Palffy Palace 🎼

Described as a "musician with a warm sound and virtuosity" by world-renowned violist Tabea Zimmerman, Kyungsik Shin has established him as one of most compelling violist among his generation.

Following his recent success winning the second prize as well as the "Gewa" prize at the 78th International Prague Spring Competition, he was named first prize winner of the 28th International Johannes Brahms Competition, International Anton Rubinstein Competition, as well as the second prize and the Audience prize at the Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition.

After winning the KBS Music Competition for the first time ever as a violist, and his early debut with the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) Symphony Orchestra, he started career as a soloist, performing with Korean Symphony Orchestra, Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Cheongju Symphony Orchestra, and the SNU Symphony Orchestra, as well as opening the 2022 season for the Kumho Young Artist Concert series, and the Seoul Arts Center Summer Music Festival Concerts.

As an avid chamber musician, he participated in the "Chamber Music Connects the World" performing with Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, and Steven Isserlis at the Kronberg Academy. He has also took part in Seiji Ozawa International Chamber Music Festival, Tianjin Juilliard Chamber Music Festival, Ljubljana Music Festival, Třeboňská Noctura Music Festival, performing and expanding his musical ideas.

Since his move to Europe, his appearances with Munich Chamber Orchestra, Czech Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, Euro Symphony SFK, Barocco Sempre Giovanne orchestra have established him as one of the upcoming soloist of his time.

Kyungsik began his studies at a very young age at the Korea National University of Arts, and the Seoul National University, studying with Eun-sik Choi. After graduating with the highest distinction, he continued his studies at the University of Arts Berlin with Prof. Hartmut Rohde where he completed his Master's Degree and is currently obtaining his Konzertexamen. His studies are being supported by Hyundai Foundation and DAAD Scholarshrip.
