Our Men's T20 2nd XI has been crowned the East German Verbandsliga Champions 2024! 🏆🔥

The team went unbeaten throughout the tournament and secured the title in a thrilling match last evening. Massive congratulations to the entire squad! 🙌👏

Our junior team had a blast playing friendly games against the talented kids from Lindenhof Elementary School! Huge thanks to all the parents and volunteers who made this event possible. It's a fantastic step forward as we aim to expand cricket among junior players in Berlin and connect with more schools across the city. If there are any junior players interested, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We have regular training sessions tailored just for you! 🌟

What a start to the 2024 season for Berlin Cricket Academy! It was a nail-biting match with twists and turns that kept us all on the edge of our seats. Here's a quick recap:

🆚 BCA faced ICCB in their first fixture of the ODCV Regionaliga T20 at Werder. 🌟 This season, we welcomed three talented debutants to the team: Talal, Rishi, and Dipinder.

BCA chose to bowl first, despite the chilly 10-degree weather (definitely not cricket weather!), our bowlers managed to bowl tight lines, keeping ICCB's scoring in check with two early wickets. Sanish and Harsha from ICCB built a solid partnership, before Adil dismissed Sanish with a catch to our debut keeper Rishi. Harsha tried to speed up the score but ended up sending one high in the air to long on. In the end, ICCB managed to score 136 runs in their 20 overs.

🏏 In response, opener Talal made an impressive debut with a quickfire 30, but we faced some setbacks with wickets falling. 🔄 At one point, we were 98 for 6 in the 16th over, needing 40 runs off the last 4 overs.

Dipinder and Mohan's partnership steadied the ship, bringing us within touching distance of victory. With 9 runs needed off the final over, and Dipinder on strike, the tension was palpable. 🤞With just 9 runs needed off 6 balls, Mohan got out on the first ball, leaving us with 9 off 5. The tension skyrocketed with a few dot balls in the over. With just one ball left and 6 runs to win, Dipinder was still at the crease.

He smashed the ball over long off, against the wind, and it sailed past the boundary line, clinching the win for us🎉🙌

It was an incredible team effort, with standout performances from Talal 31, Jan 21, Venki 13, Ameya and Adil for grabbing 2 wickets each. Special mention to our debutants for shining bright in their first outing.

What a way to kick off the season! Here's to many more victories ahead. Go BCA! 💪🔥

🏏 Tough Day on the Field for us 🏏

It's with mixed emotions that we share the outcome of the ECS Dresden T10 tournament this year. Unfortunately, we fell short in the final match and had to pass on the defending champion's crown to USG Chemnitz e.V. abt Cricket Club. 🏆

While it's a bit of a heartbreaker for us, we want to wholeheartedly congratulate USG Chemnitz e.V. abt Cricket Club for their stellar performance. You've shown exceptional sportsmanship and skill, and you truly deserve this victory! 🙌👏

A big shoutout to all the participating clubs for making this tournament so thrilling and competitive. 🙏 It's always an honor to share the pitch with such talented teams, and we can't wait for the next challenge!

We'd also like to extend our gratitude to European Cricket for putting together a fantastic event. Your hard work and dedication have made this tournament a memorable experience for all of us.

BCA at the Ashes 🕶️🏏!!

🏏🏆 We're ready to defend our title! Our cricket club is excited to be participating in the upcoming Prague T10 tournament as the defending champions. The competition will be tough, but with a determined team and some great new additions, we're all set to defend our crown this season!

In their 1st East Bundesliga t20 match of the season, BCA ladies emerged victorious over ICAB women's 2nd XI with a convincing win by 49 runs.

BCA put up an impressive score of 133 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In response, ICAB women's team struggled to get going with their batting. They lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build any significant partnerships. Despite some valiant efforts by a few of the players, they were eventually bowled out for 84 runs.

BCA players were on top of their game, with some disciplined batting & bowling and well-executed plans. Overall, it was a dominant performance by the team, who looked in control throughout the match.

Congratulations to the new ICAB women's team on a fantastic first game. Your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see what you achieve in the future.

BCA recently held its AGM in Berlin, and it was an exciting day for all the members.

The meeting started with a discussion of what went well in the last season and what areas we could improve on in the future. We were pleased that both the men's and women's teams had performed exceptionally well, with the women's team winning the Bundesliga championship and the men's team qualifying for the 50 overs Bundesliga this year.

After that, we presented a range of awards to recognize exceptional performances both on and off the field. We honored the players who had worked hard and achieved great success, as well as those who had contributed to the club's development in other ways.

Overall, the AGM was a great success, and we look forward to the upcoming season with optimism and enthusiasm. We are determined to continue building on the club's success and providing our members with the best possible experience. With such a supportive community, we know that we can achieve great things together.

The Berlin Cricket Academy was invited by Freie Universität Berlin to participate in an online seminar on "Stories of Cricket and Community in Berlin" led by Aseela Haque, a Doctoral Fellow from the Department of Human Geography. Over 20 students engaged in a 2-hour discussion about cricket in Berlin, followed by a visit to the Maifeld cricket facility.

During the seminar, five BCA members shared their cricket stories and challenges faced as expats. We want to thank our volunteers for making the seminar a success. Here are some takeaways:

- BCA Founder & President Mo Musthafa discussed the structure of cricket and how it's played in Germany. He also emphasised on the help and facilities the sport needs, to grow.
- Our women’s officer Ayesha spoke about challenges faced by female cricketers.
- Media officer Mohan expressed how playing cricket in Berlin has become a second home.
- Mohan Areti talked about cricket as a potential new sport for students to try.
- Ananya shared excitement about playing with seasoned cricketers and the inspiration it brings.

Following the seminar, the students were given the chance to visit the Maifeld, the Olympic stadium's cricket facility, and experience it first-hand.

We are grateful for the support and excited to have been able to introduce more individuals to the joys of cricket.

With a heavy heart, we bid adieu to our player and meme king Shiva Akkineni as he is moving back to his home nation. Shiva is a fantastic person and was a key figure on and off the field in our journey so far. His performances were as full of passion as they were quality. The whole club would like to wish Shiva all the best for his future.

BCA vs Bohemians CC (defending champions)

BCA batted first. Our openers 𝑺𝒉𝒖𝒃𝒉𝒂𝒎 and 𝑱𝒂𝒏 gave us an incredible start, scoring more than 30 runs each with SR close to 200. With his cameo (16 of 11), Siva Rajendran took the score beyond 100, finishing with 108 in 10 overs.
Bohemians, chasing 108, have been put on the back foot by our opening bowlers Mohan and Shiva, who have taken four wickets for 17 runs. It was a tough fight in the middle for Bohemian CC, but they lost wickets and were bowled out for 76 in 8.2 overs. Thanks to our skipper Sudheesh, who took 2 wickets in 2 balls to finish off the game.

BCA batted first again, this time 𝑱𝒂𝒏 took the lead and scored 22 off nine balls, giving us a great start. Batting through, Shubham finished with 39 (17) and this time BCA posted 112 on board, thanks to some valuable contributions from Mugil: 15(9); Siva: 12(10) and Steve: 11 (11).

Vienna Zalmi lost a wicket in the first ball, thanks to a fantastic bowling effort from BCA who once again put the opposition batters on the back foot. Vienna Zalmi kept scoring at a high rate despite losing wickets continuously, thanks to the bowling effort of Musthafa, Sudheesh, and Venkatesh who managed to take two wickets each. Needing 19 of the last over, BCA were only one wicket away from victory. Vienna Zalmi, however, scored 12 runs in the first two balls, putting pressure on BCA, with the equation of 7 from 4 balls. However, BCA bowler Venkatesh held his nerve to bowl 3 dot balls in a row, thus putting pressure back on Vienna Zalmi needing 7 or 1 ball ( 6 runs for a golden ball). Venkatesh showed tremendous character again and bowled a dot ball and lead BCA to win the Prague T10 challenger trophy. Overall, it was a great game of cricket.

Special mention to our skipper 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐡, who led our team for the first time in an away tournament and he wasted no time in bringing the team together to achieve this remarkable feat.

Interesting fact: Shiva took a wicket of his first ball in the first over of the tournament for BCA and Mohan took a wicket with his first ball in the finals.

𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔: BCA again grabbed most of the awards in the ceremony.
𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫: Jan Mohammed (6 catches)
𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐫 Mohan raj Ramadoss. ( 8 wickets with 7.6 economy )
𝗦𝗵𝘂𝗯𝗵𝗮𝗺 was just 13 runs short of becoming the highest run scorer of the tournament. (137 runs)
Special mention to 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗳𝗮 for taking 8 wickets and 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 for giving us a great start with the bat in the first game.

In the ,BCA have restricted Prague CC to just 64 runs and chased it down less than 5 overs without losing any wickets.

against USG Chemnitz e.V. abt Cricket Club was one of the best games in the tournament so far. BCA ,having batted first posted a good score and Chemnitz CC got a flying start and putting pressure on our bowlers. Under pressure, BCA bowlers came back well taking 6 wickets in a span of 2 overs leaving 8 runs to get in the last over. After facing 4 dots, Chemnitz CC hold their nerve to score 6 runs to win the game in the last ball.

against Darjeeling Cricket Club was reduced to 5 overs a side. Darjeeling CC posted a fighting score on board but BCA batters chased it down in 2.4 overs without losing any wicket and qualifed for the semis.

The BCA Ladies are the East German Champions for 2022 after winning their last two games against Saxon United in Chemnitz last weekend and doing one better than our own ladies from Berlin, ACB women in a closely fought points table. Congratulations to the players and everyone involved. We are very proud that you achieved this in your very first season. Also very proud of all the players from both ACB and Saxon United for playing excellent and hard-fought cricket throughout the season.

BCA Ladies will face up to the defending champions from the West, Frankfurt furies this Saturday in the Semi-Finals of the Geman Championship on the Maifeld.
