From Sufi dub and samba to Tanzanian bongo flava or the trance-like polyrhythms of the Balochi benjo from Pakistan – On four summer weekends you can enjoy a free entry, transcultural, and multi-generational music festival in the Schlüterhof courtyard in the heart of the Humboldt Forum. Spread out over one month the open-air festival Durchlüften will present artists from Berlin and around the globe in a dynamic programm of 24 live performances and 12 DJ sets. Music curator and music-scene aficionado Melissa Perales has lovingly compiled transnational sounds and stories for a curious and open-minded audience - featuring live performances, dance workshops, open air nightly raves, as well as a family programme for visitors to explore.

01.08.24 : Hailed by none other than Seun Kuti as 'one of the best things to come out of Lagos', Nigerian trumpeter, composer and bandleader Etuk Ubong is back this summer at Durchlüften - with an original style he calls ‘Earth Music’. Steve Mekoudja travels the world with words, always creating new homes for them. He is an author, singer, composer and filmmaker. Through his music and creativity, he continues to search for an African identity that is all his own. The self proclaimed "Minister of Enjoyment" Ben Olayinka is back for second DJ set this summer - afrobeats to the world!

02.08.24: Muito Kaballa from Cologne combines Afrobeat, jazz, soul, hip-hop, samba and rumba to create a unique mix of sounds that the band itself describes as ‘hybrid groove’. Percussion fireworks from the heart of Dakar: Mark Ernestus' Ndagga Rhythm Force is undoubtedly one of the most explosive African lives acts out there! & the DJ Collective with Ben & Emo "In Living Color" is offering Afrobeat, Afrohouse and everything that can be subsumed under Afro-Future.

03.08.24: The weekend ends with local Brazilian Jazz group: Berlinda Samba Jazz is performing songs by the most important Brazilian composers of this genre, as well as original compositions. Durchlüften is presenting one of Brazil’s long standing Afro-Brazilian groove ambassadors, BIXIGA 70.

Emel Mathlouthi, the Tunisian protest singer who provided the soundtrack to the revolution with her 2012 album "My Word is Free" (in Arabic: Kelmti Horra), is bringing her new album MRA to Berlin. With MRA, Emel aimed to deconstruct in order to rebuild everything, to stimulate herself, «so that music remains alive», she says. The result is a powerful, salvific and feminist album. Feminist by name alone, MRA meaning «woman» in Arabic. But a woman who does not respect codes. Feminist also, because the album was written, conceived and produced exclusively by and with women. With MRA, Emel wants to create a movement of tired but tireless women. Alongside Camélia Jordana, Nayomi, Alyona Alyona... women who sing, rap, produce, write in English, Arabic or French, but who all share the same language and the same fight. «My responsibility is to carry their voices at the same time as I carry mine,» affirms Emel.

Whether in Turkey, Iran, Romania, Pakistan, France, or even Germany, Carrell is known for blending global hits with widely unknown regional pop gems that can turn the world upside down.
