Zoot van Tazma [zuːt fan 'tasma] is a musician based in Berlin. Zoot van Tazma [zuːt fan 'tasma] is a freelance artist based in Berlin.
He was born in a snow-covered November in 1977. He's doing the music he likes to listen to, or he likes to play, but cannot find elsewhere. He makes no living of this, and has no record company or booking agents to satisfy, so he can do his music exactly the way he prefers it to be. In 2017, he released independent classical sheet music for classical guitar https://www.amazon.de/dp/374189494X . Currently, he's working on official streaming releases of his music.

A birthday present to myself. 'To Yourself' is its first song, which was the last of five drum tracks I originally started with, in January 2022. 'My Name' was the first. After finishing drum programming, I made up five bass tracks for them (two with my old double bass). Five Guitar tracks. I decided these pieces should include vocals and wrote lyrics, recorded vocal tracks. Took some singing lessons with Florentine Faber and reiterated some of those, but hardly ever went back to the previous instrument layer. I wanted these musical beings to grow straight (or wild?), without major adjustments. Finally each track got 1-2 add-ons: An acoustic guitar (hand made by Christian Dörr Gitarrenbaumeister), or my soprano ukulele from musicus in Freiburg, my old family piano, my Kung tenor recorder. Finally, a hand made baglamas I bought at Pegasus Musicstore in Monastiraki, Athens just this summer.
Piece by piece, in the course of two years of recording, mixing, mastering, iterating, taking some parts up front, putting others to the back, having breaks of some weeks, forgetting where certain things came from, surprising myself, surrendering to myself, I finally fell in love with every minute of these songs. So, here they are. Enjoy.

A while ago, I got annoyed by the native wake-up sounds of my phone, and I decided to use my studio to do a wake-up track that suits me better. It should start very softly, lifting me out of sleep with a very considerate crescendo and beautiful sounds. Not unnecessarily optimistic, but not too melancholic either. And loud in the end, so I really wake up. It was plainly electronic in the beginning, but then I picked up the guitar, a little beat change here, a little texture there, and couple of months later, it became an image of myself, right now - it suddenly was a new ZvT track. Optimised for iPhone speakers, but equally well working in HiFi, tested as alarm sound for several months. I love it!

Merke: Kleiner Saal klingt besser als Großer Saal. Auch wenn es sehr trocken klingt und irgendwie Höhen fehlen. Fast wie Mütze auf. Aber auch sehr präzise in den Mitten und dem Bass.

Zoot van Tazma doesn't usually sing - I'm a big friend of instrumental music. But this time, there is this old friend's song that is in danger of being forgotten because it doesn't exist in the digital world. "The Book of Fences" was written by Grand Owl Monotone, recorded and played sometimes by his band Codamine in the early 2000s. I re-recorded it two years ago, and now it's ready to be published mid February! Read more about the production, and about first time I heard it, soon.
