In “Advice for Young Artists” photographer Alec Soth is not actually giving advice to art students as one would maybe suspect by the title. Instead of taking on the traditional role of mentor, he becomes a seeker himself, visiting art universities and students to rediscover the enthusiasm, optimism and unfiltered creativity that characterized his early artistic endeavors. The art students create art for art’s own sake, free from the pressures of career, audience and external expectations that can cloud the creative process. And it is this lightness that Alec Soth is pursuing.
The photographs range from formal studies evocative of the classroom to more unruly works of self-expression. Ambiguous stagings, found forms, and lyrical portraits are interspersed with gnomic quotes and unfinished credos scrawled on Post-its. Among the students, Soth himself appears at intervals, an uncertain sage in their midst.
So rather than wisdom or guidance, Soth offers an angular and unresolved reflection on artmaking at different stages of life and the relations of photography, time, and ageing.

From the football matches at Square Leon, where aunties sell their crafts and food to onlookers, to Senegalese textiles, embroidery, and new takes on classic French cuisine, this special publication by A Magazine Curated By explores the synthesis of French identity, where the children of immigrants express their creativity through their blended heritage.
Typically highlighting the creativity and process of one fashion designer, this time A Magazine teams up with professional footballer Youssouf Fofana to explore the African diaspora in Paris’ 18th arrondissement. The focus is on creatives connected to Senegal and West Africa, examining how sport and shared culture can foster a sense of community.

Fashion Army investigates the evolution of military attire into iconic fashion. French visual researcher Matthieu Nicol presents a catalogue of three hundred and fifty documentary images from the declassified US Army Natick Labs archive, tracing military style from the late 1960s to the early 1990s. These images showcase the meticulous development of clothing and gear designed for both the battlefield and everyday military life, highlighting the profound connection between fashion, power, and aesthetics. Through this ambiguous and compelling sequence, Fashion Army offers a nuanced account of style, innovation, and the far-reaching influence of military apparel on fashion and identity, ultimately interrogating the signifiers of violence embedded in such attire.
Includes an essay by renowned fashion critic Angelo Flaccavento, reflecting on the interplay between military functionality and the fashion industry.

e-flux always stood out for their quality essays and opinion pieces on art and digital culture.
The e-flux Index compiles those long form essays from e-flux Journal and Architecture, reviews of exhibitions, books, and films from e-flux Criticism, articles and interviews by students and teachers from e-flux Education, and opinion pieces from e-flux Notes, organizing them thematically to draw out new strains of inquiry into two books.
Akinbode Akinbiyi’s street photography takes in the world’s major cities, which he explores on foot. His images are visual metaphors ruminating on cultural change, social exclusion, and colonialism’s sociopolitical consequences and its impact on urban planning. Whether he is out and about in Bamako, Berlin, Lagos, or Durban, the photographer uses his camera to investigate social structures in urban spaces.
The book presents key aspects of Akinbiyi’s work since 1990. In 2024 the photographer and author is being awarded the Berlin Senate’s Hannah Höch Prize for his life’s work.
In an age characterised by rapid technological development, the rhythm of modern society often seems at odds with the cyclical nature of the female body. Women are constantly adapting their routines and lifestyles to keep up with the demands of modernity while grappling with the inherent cycles that define their bodies. „Cycles, the Sacred and the Doomed“ dives deep into this juxtaposition, looking for ways to bridge the gap between the linear progression of technology and the cyclical nature of female existence.
This book uncovers a realm where the latest scientific advances meet ancient holistic practices and mythological narratives, creating a rich tapestry of knowledge and insight. It challenges the notion that ancient wisdom and modern technological innovation are mutually exclusive, suggesting instead that there is deep value in their convergence. Cycles, the Sacred and the Doomed illuminates the complexities of women’s health and highlights the importance of understanding and honouring the cycles that define the female body when seeking wellbeing and balance in the digital age.
Dreaming exists in a delicate space between the tangible and the imagined. While our daily lives often shape the dreams we experience, what if the reverse were possible?
Dreams are powerful forces, capable of giving form to what has yet to be realized. What might happen if the dreams of individuals and communities came together to shape a collective vision? When we dream as a collective, we create new paradigms, rules, and worlds—ones that could have a real impact on our current reality and spark societal transformation. Could a shared dream have the power to alter our reality?
This publication delves into both the dreams we have at night and those we envision during the day, exploring the potential to reclaim the transformative power of imagination when driven by a shared determination to challenge and change the present. The contributions within Dreams - of dreams of dreams by writers, artists, poets, and dreamers are as poetic and personal as dreams themselves. Through these dreams, whether formed in sleep or in moments of wakeful imagination, we can provide the collective with unexpected tools and strengthen our ability to dream together.
“Dreams - of dreams of dreams” invites us to dream, take action, and radically imagine new worlds together.
