Wir sind immer noch begeistert von der Eröffnung des IBM Health Industry Lab letzten Donnerstag.
Erfreulich viele Vertreter*innen aus Politik, Industrie und Gesundheitswesen sind unserer Einladung gefolgt und haben sich im IBM iX Studio Berlin das deutschlandweit erste kreative IBM-Zentrum speziell für die Digitalisierung der Gesundheitsbranche angeschaut.

Gregor Pillen, Geschäftsführer IBM Deutschland, begrüßte die Gäste in den neuen Räumlichkeiten. Dr. Susanne Ozegowski, Abteilungsleiterin Digitalisierung & Innovation des Bundesministerium für Gesundheit, und Markus Leyck-Dieken, Geschäftsführer gematik, sprachen inspirierend darüber, wie man mit vereinten Kräften die Digitalisierung des Gesundheitswesen gestalten kann.

Das neue IBM Health Industry Lab bietet den idealen Rahmen, um hier schnell und einfach Lösungen zu entwickeln, die die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven berücksichtigen.

An interview with Christian Schimanski – Head of Frontend

He started as a Junior Developer and never imagined that he would now - more than 10 years later - lead a team of nine experienced developer at the IBM iX Studio Dusseldorf.

📌 What keeps you motivated?
Solving challenging problems is what keeps me motivated. There is no better feeling than getting an idea that might lead to a breakthrough and once that happens, a big and complex problem becomes just a list of simple steps. Afterwards I can work on those steps, being relaxed knowing that the hard work is done. As much as I like solving complex problems – I really enjoy the rewarding feeling that arises when I can move on to the easy part of the work. 

📌 What’s your hot topic/project at the moment?
I am currently working as a technical architect on some projects for a client in the manufacturing industry. This is quite rewarding as there are always new challenges to tackle since no feature is simple and there are new things to learn all the time. Those projects keep growing and it can be fun to keep features on one project from breaking the other project as they all run on the same SAP CX instance.

 📌 What’s the best thing about your team and your position?
The best thing about my team is … my team. It sounds so simple, but everyone I work with is experienced, agile, and capable of managing many different subprojects, which are all by themselves huge. And it is always nice that you can start your workday without worrying that someone might be in a lousy mood – everyone is friendly and willing to support each other.

📌 What’s your hot topic/project at the moment?

Together with my team I work out sales marketing campaigns. I coordinate the content, which is tailored to the target group with the design as well as track the success of the campaign. Also, it is my passion to be responsible for our motto meetings on Fridays!

📌 What‘s the best thing about your team and your position?

Just out of university, my job challenges me every day. It is super exciting that I am involved in many different topics and I also know that if I need support, I will always find help in the team.

📌 Your greatest experience at IBM iX so far?

The best thing so far has been being welcomed so warmly into the teams. There is a totally relaxed and pleasant company atmosphere, as was also shown at our legendary summer party this year.

Yesterday was our Lunch & Learn session at IBM iX Studio Berlin.
This time we learned from our special guest Dr. Kristina Sahlmann more about the latest trends of the Internet of Things and how to implement such projects.

Two technologies in particular played a central role: MQTT protocol and Kafka platform.

📌 What keeps you motivated?

One of my biggest motivators at IBM iX is the huge amount of honest appreciation and good company. Even with the toughest project timeline, there is always enough time for helpful feedback and support. Another thing that really motivates me is that no day is like the other. I can’t remember a day where I did exactly what I did the day before. This challenging environment keeps me hungry for new adventures!

📌  What‘s the best thing about your team and your position?

“Best team ever” would be a great sentence to describe the people I work with. My position as a product owner often includes working on multiple different projects, with clients from different countries and industries. What always remains stable is the variety of talented and experienced colleagues in the teams. Self-organization is a very huge part of our daily project work and this couldn’t work without trust in the team. 

 📌 Your favourite quote and why?

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
This quote is something that works both for my work and my private life. It‘s all about learning, developing, becoming a better person and creating the world of tomorrow. It also reminds me of a good “Fail Culture”, where you take your previous mistakes as possibility to optimize your work.
