EEA Hope for Europe - Women in Leadership Network representatives joined the World Evangelical Alliance Women‘s Commission meeting in Brackenhurst, Kenya in July 2024.

This is the report by Elke Werner (EEA Hope for Europe - Women in Leadership Chair):

Dr. Seble Daniel, the Executive Director of the WEA Women’s Commission, invited the regional leaders of the Women’s Commission for a consultation to Limuru, Kenya.

We met from 13th to 19th July 2024 in the Brackenhurst Conference Center. All nine regions of the Women’s Commission were present - for the first time in person. The Middle East and the Caribbean region had to send a representative, as the regional leaders themselves were not able to join.

Before the conference a little booklet with all the information about the network was put together and will soon be available on the website. You will find all the information on the actual Women’s Commission in it.

On the first evening, representatives of the African Evangelical Alliance and the Kenyan Evangelical Alliance welcomed us to Africa. During the first two days, we had some input from Elke Werner (Germany) on Leadership Development, Daniel Muvengi (World Vision Kenya) on Resource Mobilisation and Rev. Domnic Misolo (Kenya) on Gender Based Violence. Rev. Esme Bowers joined us for the whole time and gave input on the history of the WC and spoke on Mentoring and Discipleship. Besides great Bible studies, worship, times for fun and sharing, we worked on the vision and mission statements and the organizational structure of the Women’s Commission.

It was decided that Dr. Seble now has a co-director: Grace Hee from Malaysia. Hannelore Illgen (Germany) was appointed as Secretary of the Commission. Irene Kibagendi (PACWA) will remain on the leadership team as a prayer coordinator. Stacie Nicole Simmons (USA) will continue to serve as Media and Communications Development Officer and Avani Wilson (India) as the Administrative Support Officer. The new position for Finance and Fundraising will be held by Melanie Nelson (Canada). Together they form the Women`s Commission Team.

One afternoon we had fun at a walking safari park and we also visited the African Evangelical Alliance Office in Nairobi. We were received with a great meal and were offered a tour of the offices. Each woman was given a special gift – a Massai Shuka and Massai Earrings. We heard again and again: “This is your office in Africa. We are here to serve you.” What a beautiful welcome!

A highlight was the last morning, when we said thankyou to Amanda Jackson, the former WC director. Each region had brought a special thank you gift for Amanda. Then we prayed for her and also for Dr. Seble Daniel in her new responsibilities in the WEA Women’s Commission. Esme Bowers, the Director of the WEA Church Engagement, blessed both of them as they passed on the baton from one Executive Director Amanda Jackson to the current one: Dr. Seble Daniel. Then we celebrated the Lord’s Supper together, led by Rev. Esme Bowers. What a great ending of wonderful days together in Limuru, days of prayer and planning.

It was a great joy and privilege to meet such blessed and engaged women from around the world. Being together in person helped us to become a team that works together for the good of women in this world.

We celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian Evangelical Alliance with gratitude and joy!

On Saturday, 11 May 2024, an anniversary celebration was held in Rome to look back on the past five decades of God's work through the Italian Alliance.

Connie Main Duarte (General Secretary of the EEA), Usha Reifsnider (Secretary of the EEA Board) and Julia Doxat-Purser (Socio-political Representative and Religious Liberty Coordinator of the EEA) spoke at the celebrations on behalf of the EEA.

After the festive weekend, Giacomo Ciccone expressed his thanks on behalf of the entire Board of the Italian Evangelical Alliance and wrote: "We thank you all for the great contributions you have made to our event. We feel spiritually enriched by them. And we have received good feedback from many people, especially from the pastors/leaders who participated in this day. We would like to have more opportunities to share the vision and gifts of God."

Can European laws stop hate? 07/03/2024

EEA's Brussels Representative Arie de Pater shares about hate speech & freedom of expression.

Can European laws stop hate? Both the European Commission and the Parliament are addressing the problem of hate crimes. But without a clear definition of what “hate” is, we will not solve the problem, writes Arie de Pater of the European Evangelical Alliance in Brussels.

June EEA HOPE Forum - Walking Together in Times of Polarisation. Part I: Politics 30/06/2023

Can we learn to walk together in times of political polarisation? We need to enter debates with real humility. We need to listen before we speak. Worse than not engaging is engaging badly, so we either shut up or really work hard at what we are thinking and wanting to say. We should not accept easy and quick solutions to complex issues. We need to remember the bigger story, and not have a mental stretch that barely manages to get around the corner.
Where polarisation wants to reduce debates to one issue, we need to learn how to tell a better story: reframe the conversation, reclaim the language, rehumanise the people, redeem the story.
These are just a few nuggets from our second EEA HOPE Forum, which has just been uploaded and you can watch on our YouTube Channel. Thank you, Julia Doxat-Purser, Frank Heinrich, Arie de Pater, and Dawn McAvoy (Both Lives Matter) for leading us in conversation and challenging us to walk together in times of political polarisation.

June EEA HOPE Forum - Walking Together in Times of Polarisation. Part I: Politics Political polarisation creates an “us versus them” dynamic which is hard to break and easily escalates ongoing tensions. As Christians we are called to respo...
