Dear Folk Club friends,
on Friday, July 5, 2024, there will be the 148th edition of the Folk Club. The organising team has decided to hold the evening on the usual date despite the overlapping quarter-final match between Germany and Spain at the European Football Championship.
The theme of the evening is "A Capella".
In June there will be a Singers' Night without a special featured artist.
The theme of the evening "A Capella" is aimed at singers who perform without accompanying instruments. The evening is intended to offer them a special platform.
Various registrations have already been received for vocal performances without
instrumental accompaniment. But as always, the theme of the evening is only a suggestion and not binding for the contributions.
As always, let yourself be surprised and enjoy the evening!
Here is a summary of the most important dates:
Date: 05 July 2024
Start: 19:00 hrs until probably 22:00 hrs. The hall is open from 5.00 pm and offers
the opportunity to enjoy a cosy meal and drink before the concert. If you arrive early,
you can also sit in the front row.

Bonn Tennis and Hockey Club - BTHV),

am Freitag, den 05. Juli 2024 gibt es die 148. Ausgabe des Folk Clubs. Das Organisationsteam hat sich dazu entschlossen, den Abend trotz des überlappend stattfindenden Viertelfinalspiels Deutschland-Spanien bei der Fußball EM zum gewohnten Termin stattfinden zu lassen.
Das Thema des Abends lautet „A Capella“.
Im Juni gibt es eine Singers‘ Night ohne speziellen Featured Artist. Das Thema des Abends „A Capella“ zielt auf Sänger und Sängerinnen, die ohne begleitende Instrumente auftreten. Der Abend soll ihnen eine besondere Plattform bieten. Es liegen für Gesangsdarbietungen ohne Instrumentalbegleitung schon verschiedene Anmeldungen vor. Aber wie immer ist das Thema des Abends nur ein Vorschlag und nicht bindend für die Beiträge.

Der erste Freitag im Monat steht vor der Tür und Bonns erste Adresse für unplugged und rein akustische Folkmusik wird zur Abwechslung mal "a ca****la". Die Themen des FCB sind nie zwingend, aber es wird eine Hommage an das älteste und wunderbarste Musikinstrument überhaupt, die menschliche Stimme, sein!

The first Friday of the month is approaching next month and Bonn's premier venue for unplugged and totally acoustic folk music is going a ca****la for a change. The FCB themes are never mandatory but there will be homage paid to the oldest and most wonderful musical instrument of all, the human voice!

Am Sonntag, den 23.6. von 10:30 bis 17:30Uhr sind Die Bonner Baimwächter mit ihrem neuen Habitatbaum beim Museumsmeilenfest im Park vom Museum König.

Sunday 23.06.24 I shall be playing at 15:00 hrs together with Christoph Thiebes at the Bonn Baumwächterfest. Do come along and say hello. We'll be playing a couple of songs about the Green Man, and a little bit of Blues.

I shall be taking a nighttime stroll through the old streets of Bonn starting at 21:00 hrs on Friday 16.06.24 so do come along and join me and I'll show you some aspects of this beautiful city that you have probably not seen before the summer

You'll never really know who or where you are, or where you are heading for, unless you've taken some time to consider where you've actually come from. Get to know this beautiful city on the river Rhine which has been inhabited since Roman times and even before, by taking an evening candlelit stroll through Bonn in the year 1698 with Master John the night watchman and chance returning a wiser person than you departed.
Learn about religious and political wars, witchcraft, incarcerations and executions.
Learn the contrast between spine-chillingly rough justice on the one hand and astonishing compassion on the other. Why is the number twelve so significant in medieval city architecture in Northern Europe? When were WMPs first employed in a European military campaign? Why did poor beggars fulfil such a useful rôle in this society? Why was Louis XIV, the French Sun King and his German Egonistic henchmen loathed so much by almost all of Europe, and in Bonn especially, by the end of the 17th century? Why does Bonn have a Minster instead of a Cathedral? So many unusual questions, but Master John, a man who you don't meet every day, has answers for all of them. The rarest thing of all though, is that if you
play your cards right and behave yourselves, he might even sing you a song and wet your whistles for you with a 1516er. So do come along to the Brassert Ufer on the second Friday of most months and take a refreshing walk into your own past, and don’t be afeared to bring your friends and family along as well, for as long as you are with Master John, the night watchman, you’ll be safe indeed, even from the ghoulish local ghosts.

Dear readers, there are some new posts up on the Bonn folk club blog page.
The omens are very good indeed, that it will be another memorable folk club evening.
These happen on the first Friday of each month and are totally acoustic and unplugged (which is a little bit of a rarity in these modern days!)

Folk-Club-Bonn Flirting is the theme of the March FCB - but what is flirting? Almost everyone can do it, but not everyone knows how to assess it correctly - hence a scientific digression (I'm quoting the sources so that I'm not stripped of the title of deputy club chronicler at some point - although? Would be less...

Liebe Folkies, es ist fast wieder der erste Freitag im Monat.
Dies wird ein gutes Treffen mit unserem Künstler, SImon Wahl, der für seinen vierten Auftritt im Folk Club Bonn aus Wien anreist. Die Musik beginnt pünktlich um 19:00 Uhr und die Türen sind ab 17:00 Uhr geöffnet. Im Gegensatz zu den letzten beiden Treffen haben wir keine Warnung vor einem Streik im Nahverkehr erhalten, so dass wir empfehlen, früh zu kommen, um sich einen Platz zu sichern.

Thursday 04.04.24 in Kater 26, Römerstraße 26, 53111 BONN von 20:00-22:00 hrs. I am pleased, happy and honoured to announce that I will be accompanied by Christoph Thiebes on Blues Harp and Robert Hrubes from Sam Francisco on piano. There is also a much better type of Pilsner Urquell than one normally finds in the USA, the original from Prague!
Admission free with hat collect.
