“It’s story time! A few weeks back, I approached Isa about participating in the March show. I reminded her that she played a crucial role in the inception of Whatever Floats Your Boat. It all started a couple of years ago when I was snapping photos of her at my neighbor’s apartment. Our conversation drifted to music preferences, and while I expected her to lean towards house tracks or techno, she surprised me with her love for cheesy RnB. Although we didn’t end up listening to it that day, her comment stuck with me. We talked about the lack of platforms to showcase such music, despite being booked for other genres. Little did she know, her words shed light on the limitations within the music scene, juxtaposed against its liberating essence.
Fast forward to now, Isa will be treating us to a delightful hour of female-focused, soothing R&B and soul from 9 to 10 pm. I can hardly contain my excitement!”

miszo is a Berlin-based DJ and radio host. After years of working in the music industry, Miszo started to research and explore the field of House music. Her style can be described as dreamy and rhythmic, with a focus on storytelling, piano and percussion, combining house music with breaks and acid, while drawing inspiration from the sounds of the early 90s.
In her monthly radio show, Ordinary Wednesday, on Refuge Worldwide Radio, she seeks out the latest ambient and experimental releases. Alongside her cohost, Deniz, she invites people from the cultural sphere to discuss their projects, interesting reads, places, and everything else that keeps us moving in our day-to-day lives.

Professor Cheng is a theatrical musical performance featuring two women seated at a milk bar, challenging the conventional narrative of “male-written history.” Amidst a backdrop of a murderer haunted by nightmares and grappling with the past, the storyline blurs the boundaries between reality and surrealism. Dissonant melodies weave through the characters, lacking clearly distinguishable transitions, ultimately culminating in a tragic portrayal of misogyny, accompanied by the erratic notes of a piano.

Lena Ms mix adresses the complete opposite, showcasing an energetic and angry female journey from NDW to (post-) punk music from the early 80s until today.

Emancipation is a struggle fought on many different levels, it’s a political struggle, it’s a class struggle, it’s an interpersonal struggle and also a personal struggle. This inner struggle is mostly invisible. It means finding yourself, whether that’s being loud and tough or sensitive and girlie, career-driven or nurturing, intuitive or analytical, or anything in between or all at the same time. It means finding out what you actually want, learning to take up space, communicating your needs, setting boundaries, forming healthy relationships, learning that your self-worth is not based on your outer appearance, all while being heavily influenced by hormonal imbalances and bleeding every month (if you are a cis-woman). It means a whole lot of work.

But emancipation also means that everyone needs to do the work, especially men. It is not enough to not be misogynistic, really supporting FLINTA* requires an active role. It means educating yourself, listening, being empathetic, encouraging others to step forward, speaking up against sexism, reflecting on your own behavior, opening up to your emotions, not suppressing them.

In her mix, Nasca invites the listener to embrace their softness and vulnerability with an hour full of calming and sweet art pop tunes.
