This week's recommendation is Heartstopper (Vol 1) by Alice Oseman 🏳️‍🌈📚

The starting volume for Heartstopper follows Charlie Spring, one of the only openly out q***r boys at Truham High, an all-boys school, as he starts a new year and meets Nick Nelson, a jock-y, rugby-playing older student. It follows the two boys as they grow closer and start catching feelings, exploring the difficulty of being q***r and figuring it all out.

Alice Oseman beautifully captures the complexities of young love and self-discovery in this heartwarming and visually engaging graphic novel. The story is told through expressive illustrations and dialogue in speech bubbles, making it an easy and delightful read.

This week's recommendation is "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell 💖📚

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell follows Cath as she and her twin sister leave for college. Cath is quieter, more reserved, and has issues socializing, while her twin is outgoing, social, and enjoys partying. The story follows Cath as she adjusts to college life while juggling her life as a fanfiction writer and creator, writing a q***r fanfiction for the book series Simon Snow, a magical boy who is tasked with defeating the infamous Humdrum, who appears to be himself.

Rainbow Rowell's heartfelt and relatable novel explores the challenges of stepping out of one's comfort zone, finding your own voice, and the power of fandom communities. With its engaging characters and emotional depth, Fangirl is a must-read for anyone who has ever felt a bit out of place.

This week's recommendation is "Trumpet" by Jackie Kay 🎷

Jackie Kay's novel Trumpet is a poignant and beautifully crafted exploration of identity, love, and the complexities of self-discovery. The story unfolds through the life of Joss Moody, a celebrated jazz trumpeter whose death reveals a startling secret—that he was born biologically female.

Through the perspectives of Joss's wife, Millie, and their adopted son, Colman, Kay delves into the emotional aftermath of this revelation, offering a tender and nuanced portrayal of family and identity. Kay's lyrical prose and deeply empathetic characterizations make Trumpet a compelling and thought-provoking read that resonates long after the final page.
