Today we did a nice guitar tracking session with .hardrock for a new Shadow Wolves song.

For the first tune we’ve already recorded, was here to sing some background vocal overdubs.

Now we can finish the mix of that song and start mixing the new one… 🤘🏼

Today we did some real home recording at the house of Francesco Apuzzo. He played some keyboard parts for the new Scary Coffee demo.

Yesterday our producer team Susana ( ) & Markus ( ) had a long meeting with West Coast Swing dancers Bianca & Carsten Schöttler ( ) creating the music for their new dance routine. The basics are done and today Markus will work on the last details and finish the mix.

We did some Guitar tracking, editing and mixing for “Shadow Wolves”.

We put the amp in our booth to record it loud without punishing our ears. The SM7b did a great job combined with the SSL and a DBX compressor.

Guitar player Thomas Fricke enjoyed recording while sitting on our couch in the control room.

already did the editing and a first mix of all instruments.

In a second session the vocal will be added, before finishing the mix and mastering.

Mastering the new single “Love yourself” by ALEX’s KEPT SECRET

We‘re very happy with the new MacBook Pro M3 Max, more power than needed and also great for mobile use.

But it’s too new for our „old“ SSL console, so we changed the setup a little bit. The laptop has its place on the not used transport section of the console and on the right we have the former windows pc for programming the SSL routing and patchbay. It’s also our office pc now.

We keep our great workflow with analog outboard while tracking and mixing in the box. For mastering we also use the SSL Fusion and Bus+ right in front of the console.

New is also the monitor routing through the Mackie DL32 for individual headphone mixes.

Let’s talk about gear, baby!


Some of you asked me what gear I’m using for recording and mixing. Let’s focus on the “control room” for now, microphones etc. is a different topic.

When building the it took nearly 6 months to plan different ways of setting up the control room. From a 100% digital daw only setup to an analogue console with lots of outboard every possibility was discussed. The way we finally did it is in my opinion the best one in these times.

I love consoles and outboard gear for tracking and I’m one of the biggest SSL fans on this planet. So we bought a SSL Matrix Console upgraded to Matrix 2 Delta. This console has no preamps or eqs, but it’s amazing for organising your gear and a great tracking and workflow!

Also we got two sidecars (Soundcraft and Midas) especially for drums and percussion. Underneath there are two big racks of outboard. For routing the signals from our four tracking rooms to the preamps we use a classic patchbay. For routing the compressors and other outboard we have the digital patchbay of the SSL matrix.

All signals are organised in the SSL console and go through a Lynx Aurora(n) AD/DA mastering quality converter into a MacBook Pro. For the musicians headphone monitoring we are also sending the signals to a Mackie DL3216 digital rack mixer, so every musician is able to mix his own headphone sound with his smartphone. In the control room I’m mixing through Yamaha HS8 (including a Subwoofer), KRK Rokit 6 and my favourite headphones KRK KN8400.

By the way, we also have a 16 track tape machine patched in if needed.

For mixing I work 100% in the box now. My favourite plugins are all from and but also the / OmniChannel2 / channel strips and Kramer tape, as well as different simulations of classic gear like LA2A, LA3A, DBX160, Fairchild and others…

With using the MacBook Pro I’m able to take it with me and mix everywhere I want to. For mobile mixing I’m using the SSL2 interface and the .music KN8400 headphones or my Rokit 5 monitors if I’m at home.

Holidays are over, we are back in business!

Later this year the Swiss/German jazz trio will visit us in Dortmund to produce their debut album.

Katrina Noire ( ) is a regular guest in our studios. Every time she finished a new song, Katrina visits us.

Her music is straight and oldschool. She plays bass and guitars by herself, for the singing parts she always works with our vocal producer Susana ( ). Engineer once again was

Today we wanna present you vocal coach and producer Susana Jütte ( )

She is a professional singer working in different styles. If someone needs some female vocals on their record, Susana is definitely recommended!

Even more important is her work as a coach and vocal producer for our customers. She is able to get the very important last percent out of them and helps with her huge experience.

Experimenting with a mobile setup to do some demo recordings in Switzerland with the jazz trio

Using a Mackie DL32s as a digital mixer and interface, recording on a MacBook and mixing the monitor headphone aux channels individually and directly with the mixing station app for zero latency.

Traditional jazz drum miking with bassdrum mic and two overheads. Electric fretless bass and guitar will go in directly. So we can get clean signals in the small rehearsal room of a conservatory.

These tracks are just for the musicians themselves or maybe for demo use. If we will produce the real album later this year, we do it in our studio of course.

Sometimes it’s nice to mix in the dark, inspired from the lights of the console….

Neben unserem Kerngeschäft im Studio machen wir zwischendurch auch gerne mal FOH Live Beschallung (auch mit Multitrack Recording) für Bands und Künstler aus dem Umkreis.

In Sachen Technik haben wir von der kleinen Maui Säulen PA bis hin zur großen QSC PA eine ganz passable Ausstattung für kleine und mittlere Veranstaltungen. Für größere Events mieten wir aber auch gerne Equipment dazu.

Beim Soester Kneipenfestival haben wir kürzlich unseren neuen Mackie DL32s Mixer getestet und sind für diese Art von Jobs mehr als zufrieden. Bedient haben wir ihn über ein Microsoft Surface mit einem extra programmierten Mixing Station Layout. Super praktikabel und intuitiv!
