Energy around the clock

Together with RePower Ukraine, SMA supplied a solar storage solution to the Brovary Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, which can now cover half of its energy needs with solar power.

Equally important is the integrated backup power function, which ensures a reliable power supply even at night and during power outages.

In the past, the hospital suffered from power outages, which were particularly critical for the pediatrics, infectious diseases and maternity departments.

We are pleased that with this project we can contribute to the decentralization of energy supply in Ukraine and to strengthening resilience.

For 14 days the "campers" have the opportunity to learn the basics of PV in theory & practice and to enjoy a good time together.

Now, the 25 solar campers visited SMA where our technical trainer Burak Emre Saygin showed them how a solar system works and how to connect a hybrid inverter.

The tour of the Solar Academy was led by Kara Clauss, who had answers to all questions about the energy self-sufficient and climate neutral building, before Rolf Innauen and some SMA trainees gave a tour of the apprentice training workshop. The day ended for the Solarcamp participants with a tour of the solar and battery inverter production at Sandershäuserberg.

Afterwards they returned to the camp for another week of training, practical work and free time together.

The DAK-Gesundheit corporate run brings colleagues together outside of work, promoting team spirit and health.
Almost 950 runners started to run the 5.3 kilometer course.
With 167 participants, SMA was at the top of the list of participating companies.

For Company Sports, the event is one of the highlights of the year. Because what could be better than to see beaming faces in SMA jerseys at the finish line?

Flood! How to deal with the solar system?

In general, solar systems do not pose any particular hazards during floods. However, caution is advised since many solar systems have solar and battery inverters as well as battery storage units—the electrical components of the systems—located in the basement, which is where the water collects.

PV modules, inverters, string distributors, battery storage units, DC plugs, and cables that have been flooded or damaged by water can pose a danger. Very important: Never put yourself at risk. SMA advises system operators to always contact their installer or an electrical professional first.

An eye-catcher underwater and on rooftops

Visitors to Lady Elliot Island marvel at the diversity of the underwater world. But the coral island at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef also has a lot to offer "up top".

The holiday resort is a mini solar city with a 189 kW solar array including Sunny Island battery inverters and a 617 kWh battery storage system. On an annual average, about 80 percent of the resort's electricity comes from solar power.

It's colorful again.
During PrideMonth, people around the world are flying the flag. For the strengthening of LGBT*QI+ rights.

This is definitely an important sign. But we should not forget to stand up for diversity and open-mindedness for the other 11 months of the year. Because even in democratic countries, q***r people are discriminated against on the streets, at school or in the workplace.

At our headquarters in Kassel, we have joined forces with a number of other companies, institutions and associations under the umbrella of Offen für Vielfalt to plan a range of colourful activities and make Pride Month visible.

By the way: The Q***r Network has been in existence at SMA for more than 2 years. It meets regularly to act as a contact point, to empower and improve the working situation for q***r people. As a sign of solidarity, colorful pride wristbands will be distributed to colleagues in June and networking events will take place.

SMA sails deep into the heart of Indonesia to pave the way for solar energy.

Our employees Pelangi Saichu and Imam Askolani provide training to service personnel at PT PLN UIW Papua and Papua Barat. They teach the basics in workshops. However, for first-hand experience in troubleshooting, practical training sessions took place in various villages where SMA inverters are used.

In total, the service personnel is responsible for more than 225 photovoltaic systems that supply rural communities with electricity, and their smooth operation must be guaranteed.

SMA Solar - Southeast Asia

Some of our SMA Altenso GmbH colleagues were lucky enough to revisit our well-known project site in St. Eustatius (Dutch Caribbean) this March. Their task was to install and commission an additional battery storage system with a nominal capacity of 12.85 MWh. Besides, the overall island system, including PV, BESS, and gensets, is controlled by the Power Plant Manager in a redundant setup.

Since our first successful commissioning in St. Eustatius in 2017, we have been contributing to the island’s solar-based energy supply through several projects. It makes us really proud to continue our work and extend its independence from fossil fuels.

News from SMA South America!

The new offices in the modern MUT building in Santiago have now been officially inaugurated!

The 30 employees who will now work in the new office were delighted with the inauguration.

Part of the offices: a modern showroom. Once fully completed, it will also be used as a training room to help installers and other interested visitors discover our energy solutions.

Here's to new beginnings and new opportunities!

The Minbu Solar Power Project is the largest of its kind in Myanmar. Divided into 4 phases, it covers an area of 344 hectares.
Phase 1 with 41 SMA Central inverters (1000 CP XT) has been operational since 2019.
The project has a total capacity of 220 MW, playing an important role in the country's sustainable energy production and avoiding more than 285,000 tns of CO2 emissions per year.
When completed, the project will be able to generate enough clean energy to power more than 200,000 homes in the region.

Fast bikes - Great weather 🌞

Almost 4,000 participants got on their bikes for the Tour d'Energie in southern Lower Saxony, Germany, to take on the challenges of the routes.

Right in the middle of it a motley crew of nine SMA employees. They took on the 100-kilometre route and, as SMA cycling team 1 and 2, secured 5th and 23rd place in the company ranking.

Innovations deserve to be celebrated 🚀🥳

Together with their colleagues from Innovation Management the colleagues from SMA Corporate IP Management surprised a trio of inventors. Mats, Thomas and Paul Robert were delighted to receive the award for the 1,000th invention at SMA. Their idea will enrich hybrid systems in the future.

SMA CEO Jürgen Reinert emphazised the importance of passion and commitment to inventions at SMA. Only with this attitude innovative systems will make the use of renewable energies easier and more cost-effective.
