J’cier, a recent Worcester Tech High School graduate, won SCHOTT North America’s 1st innovation challenge with his automation windshield tinter theory! 🎉 His presentation and stellar knowledge earned him a 12-week internship, where he’s contributing to manufacturing improvements and designing innovative fixtures at SCHOTT in Southbridge.

J’cier’s journey began with a forgotten flyer from Manufacturing Day, leading to a last-minute application that changed his life. Now, he’s set to attend UMass Lowell on a paid scholarship to become an Electrical Engineer. 🌟

The “SCHOTT for a Cure” team 💪 raised over $14,000 by selling or raffling off various items such as gift baskets, t-shirts, calendars, luminary bags or collecting direct money donations, including a sponsorship donation from SCHOTT!

For the 12th year, a small team of dedicated employees from the Southbridge site, volunteered their time and passion to raise money for the Relay for Life to support the American Cancer Society. The team is honored to participate to remember loved ones lost and honor cancer survivors. ❤

For the second consecutive year, SCHOTT's Rye Brook, NY office organized a heartfelt donation drive supporting various local charities, including the Walter Hoving Home in Garrison, NY, The Putnam Human Society, and St. Christopher’s Inn. A big thank you to all the employees who donated various items. Such as clothing, houseware, toiletries, non-perishable food items, and pet supplies, directly benefiting these local Hudson Valley charities.

Site Duryea employees once again partnered with The United Way for their Annual Day of Caring. Employees braved the humid, rainy conditions and volunteered their time by participating in various beautification projects throughout the local county, which included cleaning a local riverbed of trash and debris. Thank you to all who came out to support our community!

SCHOTT Pharma recently celebrated April’s excellent production numbers with a pizza party. All employees were invited to grab their favorite slice from the on-site wood-fired pizza truck. Thank you to all SCHOTT Pharma employees for your excellent work. Keep it up!

United in our pursuit of wellness, we inspire each other to prioritize fitness. 💪 An example from our colleagues in Switzerland: In St. Gallen, they kicked off their day with a refreshing Vitamin Booster session. 🥤 Meanwhile, in Iberica, colleagues gathered for wholesome group lunches aimed at promoting healthier eating habits. 🥗

Over in Mitterteich, Germany, the focus turned to physical vitality. With 'Back Fit,' practical advice was shared to counteract the effects of prolonged sitting. 💼 In Rye Brook, USA, staff members engaged in joyful office walks, fostering both team spirit and movement. 🚶‍♂️

And in Southbridge, USA, we introduced Resilience Colouring as a mindful practice, nurturing inner well-being and resilience. 🎨 Together, these efforts underscore our commitment to fostering a culture of health and vitality across our global community at SCHOTT. 🌍

A long and healthy life – that's what we want for our employees! This is why we relaunched our Global Health Management initiative on the World Health Day. Together, our employees embark on a journey of mutual inspiration, engaging in diverse activities to collectively thrive in these essential areas. 🌍

For example, in Kuala Lumpur our team dived into the way of wholesome nutrition, discovering innovative ways to include vegetables into their daily diet. Meanwhile, in Taiwan, colleagues had a nourishing lunch together, celebrating the joys of wholesome eating. 🥗

On the other side of the world in the UK they did a hiking tour embracing the beauty of nature while promoting physical activity. 💪 In Melbourne, our colleagues got in motion as well with a yoga session, which is good for both body and mind. And in Duryea, USA, a seminar on mental health provided invaluable insights, reinforcing the importance of emotional resilience and well-being. 🍀

Together, these initiatives embody our commitment to fostering a culture of well-being, empowering each employee to thrive, both personally and professionally. 🤝

SCHOTT Duryea employees once again partnered with the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce to partake in their annual Reading Day celebration. Volunteers were provided with the book 📖 “Who Will I Be?,” and assigned to read to Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms throughout the Pittston Area.

Earth Day 🌎 may have been yesterday, but SCHOTT in Duryea spent the first few weeks in April collecting old electronics 📺 to be properly disposed. Eight bins in total were filled up from employees and local residents who took the time to spring clean 🌷, diverting these items from piling up in local landfills. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Supporting our community is a large part of what we do at SCHOTT. Our SCHOTT MiniFab employees from Phoenix took the call to action from St. Mary's Food Bank and volunteered to support this non-profits mission to end hunger in Arizona. On Friday, 21 SCHOTT employees, helped assemble 1,125 Senior Boxes, totaling 300,000 meals for the day!

Motion, nutrition, and resilience—these three pillars are the foundation of a happier and healthier life, and they lay the foundation for the SCHOTT Global Health Management. With the World Health Day, we're launching a long-term global health initiative which supports our employees on their individual well-being journeys. 🤝

Our goal is to empower our employees to become proficient in these areas, enabling them to embrace a healthy lifestyle independently and sustainably. To achieve this, we're launching a diverse array of activities across the globe. 🌍

In Germany, for instance, we're kicking off a mindfulness week, encouraging every employee to dedicate a moment each day to focus on their breath—a simple yet impactful step toward cultivating mindfulness and well-being. Furthermore, through our intranet platform, employees can exchange their favorite outdoor activities, fostering inspiration and motivation among colleagues to embrace physical activity. 💪

But our initiatives aren't confined to Germany alone! In Penang, Malaysia, an expert talk on mental health will provide invaluable insights. Meanwhile, in Melbourne, Australia, we're fostering motivation with a wellness bingo to encourage collective physical activity. And in Tokyo, Japan, we're educating employees on healthy snacking choices, promoting smarter eating habits for enhanced health. 🙌

Thrilled to announce the winners of our first Innovation Challenge as part of ! We asked students enrolled in high schools near our US locations in Southbridge, Vincennes, Duryea, and Lebanon, to submit an original business idea that utilizes glass to improve our everyday lives.

Three semifinalists were tasked with pitching their ideas to a panel of judges comprised of SCHOTT employees. So, without further ado, we present this year’s winners of the Innovation Challenge! 🥁

🥇 Shay Daniels (Abington Heights High School): "Gamma-Ray Fiber Optics," a game-changing concept utilizing glass to revolutionize medical treatments by precisely targeting diseased cells with gamma rays.

🥈 J’cier Santana (Worcester Technical High School): "Automatic Window Tinter," a brilliant innovation enhancing driver comfort and safety by automatically adjusting vehicle window tint based on external light levels.

🥉 Thomas Burke (Abington Heights High School): "The Ani-View," a visionary window equipped with an LED system offering therapeutic benefits, particularly for individuals battling seasonal depression, by altering environmental visuals.

SCHOTT is committed to supporting our surrounding communities through various efforts particularly, programs that foster growth and enrichment for our local youth. On March 20th, SCHOTT excitedly donated $5,000 to the local youth organization, Bridge of Faith Youth Center, to support local middle and high-school-aged children in the Southbridge community to have access to the support and resources necessary to experience higher education. The Executive Director of Bridge of Faith Youth Center, Esteban Carrasco Jr., said, “We are extremely grateful to SCHOTT for their continued investment in the youth of our community, this gift will have a generational impact.” We too are grateful for the youth center's initiative and message, and we are happy to support such a wonderful organization!

At SCHOTT we care about building connections within our communities by spreading our knowledge about the manufacturing industry, especially with our local schools. This week SCHOTT Pharma colleagues in Lebanon, PA were busy harnessing those relationships - hosting a tour for school officials from the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center and attending the Bold Steps 2024 career event at Cedar Crest High School helping current students find inspiration for their future.

What’s it like to be sent abroad with SCHOTT? Meet Thorsten, who has enjoyed this experience! 🙌

Thorsten started his journey in 1989 as an Industrial Mechanics trainee at SCHOTT. Fast-forward: his passion has led him to the Advanced Optics unit via the Display Project in Mainz. 😯

He thrives on collaboration. From Mainz to Malaysia, Yverdon, and Duryea, he’s a global team player, working on various projects and establishing friendships worldwide. 🌎💙

Four years ago, Thorsten embraced a new challenge in the U.S., joining the Duryea team. The transition went smoothly, thanks to his previous cross-border projects. Thorsten’s secret? Open-mindedness, respect, and attentive listening. These qualities fuel his success within diverse teams. 👀 🦾

Now, Thorsten is back in Mainz, Germany. From there, he’s still amplifying global collaborations with Duryea, Yverdon, and Malaysia. 🚀

Thorsten’s journey underscores the power of international teamwork and adaptability. 💪

March is National Reading Month 📖 and employees like Lynn Gassert and Jessica Rodriguez have been sharing their love ❤️of reading with fellow colleagues at the SCHOTT Pharma Lebanon plant by creating a "Share a Book Take a Book" program. Starting up many years ago as a small book swap amongst the female employees in their locker room. Now, expanding to to two bookshelves in the employee lounge where all employees can participate. Keep spreading the love of reading, ladies!

On Friday, March 1st, we celebrated Employee Appreciation Day 🙌 around US sites.

At our Duryea plant, they enjoyed a pizza 🍕 lunch and at SCHOTT Pharma in Lebanon handwritten notes ✉️from management and a backpack 🎁. Although we appreciate our employees every day, we want to give a special shout out to honor all of you for your handwork, commitment, and dedication!

The Rye Brook office indulged in various types of chili from veggie, chicken, turkey, and traditional beef for our annual Chili Cookoff, celebrated the week before the Superbowl. This year, Kevin Foy, took home the win with his delicious Sweet Potato chili and earned extra credit points for his yummy cupcakes too! Thank you to all those who participated and congrats to our chili champion, Kevin. Let’s go Superbowl 58!

Did you know heart-related diseases are the leading cause of death for women, and currently, 45% of women over the age of 20 are living with some form of cardiovascular disease?

In honor of Heart Health Month, employees were encouraged to wear red for Wear Red Day an effort by the American Heart Association to raise awareness of the ongoing battle against cardiovascular disease. For each employee who rocked red on February 2nd, $5 was added towards a donation to the American Heart Association.

Fellow Pennsylvania resident, Punxsutawney Phil 🦫 did not see his shadow this Groundhogs Day, and the Lebanon facility celebrated the idea of an early Spring 🌷 with a raffle. The winner, Michael Boltz, 🏆 took home a handmade groundhog cookie from Laura the Cookie Lady and a Sheetz gift card!
