It's English language day! Auf and Bei are the most commonly mistranslated when it comes to prepositions of place. Usually you mean at the cinema, at the trade show, at the airport, at the event or party. You don’t mean “on” and you certainly don’t mean “by”.

We differentiate between a point in time and a period in time. In German you say seit und bis. Look at how we do it in English.
· I have worked here since February (time point) seit
· I have worked here for ages (time period) seit
· The work must be finished by Friday (time point) bis
· You have until Friday to finish it (time period) bis

Know your false friends. Can you see the sea? Können Sie das Meer sehen? Können Sie den/die See sehen? der See is the lake, die See is the ocean, Das Meer is the seaside. Wo…confusing!
