Our summer party took place last Friday. We were generously provided with meat and sausages from the grill. The delicious side dishes and desserts were brought by our colleagues. We enjoyed a nice get-together in beautiful weather.
Our sales partner Intertronics virtually cycled over 500 miles from Kidlington to Wiesbaden to support the incredible work of Emmaus UK, a charity addressing homelessness. The Intertronics team pedaled away on two stationary bikes for four days straight (15-18 July, 2024) to cover the distance in honour of this great local cause. Virtually they also visited us at relyon plasma. We are supporting this great campaign with a donation of €250.

The MediPlas is a true marvel for the generation of reactive gases.
Depending on the type of gas supplied (e.g. dry or humid air) and by adjusting the operating point in the reactor using temperature and plasma energy, individual outputs specific to the planned application can be set. This means that the concentrations of the desired output substances ozone, nitrogen oxides and their acids and hydrogen peroxide can be set.
But how can the functional principle of the influencing parameters be visualised? With the easy-to-understand info animation "Chemistry control with MediPlas", the behaviour can now be easily understood. The outputs for ozone and nitrogen oxides were simulated using the adjustable input parameters of power and temperature, with a scenario for the use of air and pure oxygen being visualised in each case.
Chemistry control made easy. With the MediPlas, interested companies can now easily customise the MediPlas for their specific applications.
About MediPlas: MediPlas uses oxygen and nitrogen in the air to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) such as nitrogen oxides and hydrogen peroxide as well as ozone on site for the safe and efficient disinfection of medical devices.
In this study, the effect of cold atmospheric plasma on human hepatocellular carcinoma cells, which are the sixth most common type of cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, was investigated. Different types of HCC cells were treated for different durations and a clear change in morphology and cell density was observed. All cells had shrunk significantly. To the study: bit.ly/3XPalU5
Sensitive materials are easily damaged by plasma treatment with a plasma jet. The low temperature input and gentle air jet of our PiezoBrush PZ3-i make it ideal for pretreating sensitive materials. Despite the effective plasma treatment, the thin plastic film is not damaged.

A consideration of the temperature development during the application is particularly revealing for the question of where the improved adhesive strength of bonds of crystalline thermoplastics after plasma treatment comes from: typical power densities and overrun speeds lead to short-term temperature increases in the substrate surface and the layer close to the surface. This rapid heating and cooling exceeds the phase transition temperature of the polymer in this thin layer. This dynamic temperature profile influences the melting and crystallization behavior of the material, which leads to new phase mixtures near the surface. More information: bit.ly/4dJDu8z

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is extremely inert. Due to its extremely low surface tension, there are virtually no materials or adhesives that adhere to PTFE. Good adhesion can only be achieved through chemical modification using plasma technology. By treating PTFE with forming gas before further processing in combination with piezo technology, both the surface energy and the wettability of PTFE are significantly increased.
