About me
Hi! My name is Vandita Verma and I’m a pet portrait artist based in India. I’m 21 years old and a student of Engineering in Biotechnology. So, I’m just a part time artist, but hope to expand my business and switch to a full time artist job in the future someday.
I am completely self taught, constantly learning from other artists’ work and from my own work. I don’t have a degree in Art. I’ve always loved drawing since childhood and received several awards and prizes in school and art competitions. I started out as a watercolour and mixed media artist in 2016 and gradually started up my business in 2017 focusing on pet and wildlife portraits in coloured pencil and pastel medium with the help of my supporting family and friends.
I received my first commission in August 2017 from a very kind client located in Austin who even paid me extra for the portrait. Over time, I received more commissions and my drawing skills and techniques evolved and improved with every portrait. Today, I specialise in realistic coloured pencil and pastel fine art. I try to include as many details as possible, to make them look realistic.
I’ve often been contacted by clients who wanted a portrait of their beloved pet who sadly passed away, the only remnants of their memories being some poorly exposed or blurry photographs. I use several pictures as reference to create the final drawing, which brings the critter to life. No matter how bad the pictures, I find a way to reunite the owners with their pets.
