Another lovely year with lots of dancing and amazing students!!
This year we held a lot of shows with amazing acts and guest appearances. We held another successful Summer Camp, danced at Copenhell and attended in events with DR. 🌟🎥🎶🤘🏼
Last but not least, students from two Become a Burlesque star courses debuted as stars back in February and again in September. 🤍🤍🤍
We can wait to start another great year with all of you.

6 WEEK LYRICAL COURSE 🕊️💜
In January we start another Lyrical Burlesque course.
The course runs from the 5th of January - 9th of February. 🙌🏼

MAE WEST ELF ❣️
Before Madonna, Miley and Marilyn, Mae West was the original bad girl. She was known for pushing the boundaries of decency and for her quirky sense of humor. ✨
She performed burlesque shows, wrote her own adult plays, was a Broadway actress and advocated for gay and women’s rights. 👑💪🏼
Despite heavy censorship she was able to slip through some memorable movie lines that have become synonymous with Mae West. For example:
“Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?” 💥

JOSEPHINE BAKER CRAWLING ELF 🤍
This burlesque legend is so much more than just a burlesque icon 🌟🌟🌟
Josephine Baker made a name for herself when she took a job in France. In that time Paris had an obsession with black culture and many were inspired by African culture. 🇫🇷🥖🌍
Miss Baker is known for her comedic performance in a skirt made of bananas. This performance made her famous almost overnight. 🍌✨
Besides her entertainment career she was a human rights activist fighting against racism. ✊🏾💪🏾
AND she was a spy during World War II
and was an honorable member of the French Resistance. 🪖🎖️

SALLY RAND ELF 🩷🪽
It’s time for the next crawling elf, Sally Rand!
Miss Rand was made for the stage. She started as a chorus girl at the age of 13, then studied ballet and drama and later became an actress in silent movies and an acrobatic dancer at carnivals. 🎶🩰🎞️
After a short-notice dancing job in Chicago and a pair of vintage fans she started her career as a burlesque dancer. 💕
She became famous for her fan dance and balloon bubble dance act. 🤍🫧

GYPSY THE CRAWLING ELF 🎄
Now you can print your own Gypsy Rose Lee crawling elf!! 🙌🏼
Gypsy was a legendary burlesque performer who debuted in 1929 and she became the headline on Broadway after only 2 years. 🎪🌟
She was known for her classy and witty style and for her famous trick where a shoulder strap on her dress snapped, causing her dress to fall to her feet despite her efforts to cover herself up. 👀🤩

The Sweet Burlesque studio has been taken over by a new friend named ✨Ruby TasselToes✨. Ruby is no ordinary elf on the shelf - she is a tiny dancer with a big heart and a love for sparkles.
Every night after the students go home, Ruby comes to life. She wears her tiny and shiny costume and dances around the studio, leaving surprises and a trail of glitter that sparkles like snow. ❄️💫
Ruby is ready to dance her way into the hearts of Sweet Burlesque.

At the bar Curfew they serve a Josephine Baker cocktail as a tribute to the legendary performer. 🥂
Drawing inspiration from her iconic costume of a short skirt made of artificial bananas, this cocktail captures the spirit of the jazz age and the Roaring twenties. 🍌⚜️🌟🎷
It is made with Havana Rum as Fidel Castro invited Baker to perform at the Teatro Musical de La Habana in Havana, Cuba.

Sweet Burlesque - the concept

It all started with a movie about Burlesque. ‘It spoke to me and it gave me an idea’ - Anne, Owner of Sweet Burlesque. The Movie Burlesque (actors: Christina Aquilera & Cher) is about finding yourself, gain independency, live your life, dance, glamour and the secret behind Burlesque. The genre has been around for centuries but yet people are still in doubt when it comes to Burlesque. ‘What is it?’, ‘Is it like stripping?’ and so on.
Burlesque is fun, extreme, glamorous, satire, comical and it’s all for you! When Sweet Burlesque was founded we all had one thing in common - and that was that is has to be fun. So we started performing for free to smaller parties. As the years went by, we started to get more and more serious with the genre and started to study the art of Burlesque. We found out that all this time there had been a secret society within the burlesque genre and that Copenhagen actually was a place to dance Burlesque. We started expanding and evolving our concept and that is what brought us til now. We want to spread out the word and our concept and get Burlesque out in the open so people know what it is and start a new trend cause this is to good to be hidden. Women should feel like women and we should not feel embarrassed or ashamed of our bodies but embrace them and be filled with positive energy and bodypositivisme and not anything else. We started as amateur dancers and now we are specialized and professional with the Burlesque genre and we would love to introduce this to you.
