Did you know the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper got its name because its tail looks like a scorpion’s stinger? 🌶️⚡
With heat levels of up to 850,000 Scoville Heat units, this fiery pepper is not afraid to bring the burn. In fact, it was once crowned as the world’s hottest pepper!
That is why it is part of UCHU´s Super Hot lineup.
Handle with care—but if you’re brave enough to try it, get ready for a flavor explosion like no other!
Karla recently left the office to co-facilitate at the Field School (ECA) in Totoral 🌱.
There, she helped lead the Agroecosystem Analysis of this Carolina Reaper chili crop. Her involvement is another hands-on approach to supporting good farming practices. 💪
The UCHU Field Schools are a learning program focused on experiential education for farmers. These sessions are continuous, both on-site and off, providing constant support and knowledge tranfer.
Resourcefulness is a key aspect in Agriculture. As an example take this tool, which uses wind movement to create noise with attached cans and nails. These habaneros look as good to birds as it does to you and me, so the sound created by the fan acts as a deterrent. 🌬️🔊
This method is not only cost-effective but also easy to implement, making it an accessible option for farmers looking to adopt more responsible farming practices.
This is a great example of how simple tools can make a significant impact in crop protection. 🌱
We’re proud to support our farming community with practices that are both effective and responsible.

UCHU Field School: Analyzing Agroecosystems Session 🌿
Supporting our farmers is key to our success at UCHU. Recently, we held a UCHU Field School session in Caserío Totoral Las Lomas, where our farmers analyzed the agroecosystem of Carolina Reaper peppers.
During this session, our farmers gathered crucial information, identified beneficial and harmful insects, observed crop behavior, and collaboratively made informed farming decisions.
UCHU Field Schools are a hands-on learning methodology focused on experiential education for farmers. These sessions are continuous, with a goal of conducting at least four for each group.
One of the developments we have is the use of combined crops. This one is with Passion Fruit. As you can see, Passion Fruit grows over the top, and our crops grow below it.
Join us on the route to Macara as we continue to promote responsible agriculture and support our farming community.
Building an Inclusive Work Culture at UCHU 🌟
As part of our commitment to SDG 5 ‘Women at UCHU,’ we recently hosted a workshop for the men at Proaji and Pizca. The session focused on the evolving roles of men in promoting an inclusive and equitable workplace.
We discussed how key principles of gender diversity can enhance our work culture and conducted team-building and leadership activities to improve collaboration and problem-solving skills.
Supporting all employees through training and workshops is a core part of our corporate responsibility plan, and we’re excited to continue these important initiatives.
‘Women at UCHU’ is our initiative to promote gender equality and create opportunities for all.

Exciting news from Santo Domingo! In an effort to contribute to the environment, our team has successfully planted 5,000 endemic trees at the James Brown Wildlife Rescue Center.
Complementing our tree-planting initiative, we also supplied ‘chalos’—innovative backpacks specifically designed to transport young trees. This enhances the efficiency and impact of our reforestation activities. 🎒🌱
The James Brown Center is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife. 🐾🌏
🌱 At UCHU, producing a great product begins with supporting our farmers. Our Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) ensure responsible, high-quality agriculture. Learn how we reduce water usage with seedlings, improve soil health through organic matter, and boost crop success with companion planting and crop rotation.

In our nursery, these Habanero seedlings are prepared for their transition to the fields. Happy to say they are looking vigorous and healthy!
Starting with strong seedlings is a key component to farming: it ensures each plant gets a healthy beginning, leading to better growth and higher-quality harvests.
🌶️ Why seedlings?
* Better Growth: Think of it like jump-starting the process.
* Disease Control: A healthier starts mean less disease later.
* Uniform Quality: Consistent size and health for all plants.
At UCHU Spice, we support good farming practices by providing our local farmers with the best start possible!
Training in Integrated Pest Management for Producers in Las Lomas, Peru 🌶️
Local producers of Habanero, Scorpion, and Carolina peppers in Las Lomas participated in a specialized training session focused on Integrated Pest Management. This session equipped them with effective strategies to combat pests and diseases.
📍 Regular training sessions are conducted in Oriente and Piura, and can be held in group settings or as individual meetings, ensuring support for each of our producer’s needs.

🌱Organic Farming 🌱 Just a few weeks ago, our Agriculture team had the opportunity to step out into the field for a hands-on learning experience.
We were warmly welcomed by Pacho at his organic farm near Quito, where he shared insights into the organic ways of farming. From soil preparation to pest management, we covered a lot! 🍃
It was an eye-opening day, filled with valuable takeaways. We’re excited to bring these practices into our farming network. 🌿

Our agricultural team recently hosted a field school session, bringing together farmers at a model field to review and apply Good Agricultural Practices.
The focus was on practical learning, covering topics such as pest management and the proper documentation of agrochemical use. These sessions are part of our ongoing effort to support the agricultural community through education and the sharing of best practices.
🔬For our Quality Department the mission is clear: to ensure everything meets our certification standards. From the moment fresh raw materials arrive to the time our products are ready to leave, they conduct thorough checks. This includes detailed inspections of all incoming materials, whether it be hot peppers or packing material. The job doesn’t stop there, however; they also rigorously assess our machinery and work environments to guarantee the safety and quality of our products. It’s all about making sure what reaches you is nothing but the best.
Here’s a look at some of the key activities we undertake to maintain quality:
🌟 Weekly Equipment Swabs: Every Monday, we thoroughly clean our equipment and then test surfaces with a luminometer to ensure they are free from any organic matter. It’s our way of starting the week right, with cleanliness and safety as our top priorities.
🌟 Rigorous Checks: Denis ensures every piece of raw material meets our strict standards before it even enters our production line.
🌟 Water Quality Checks: Our expert in biotechnology, Alisson, closely monitors our water treatment plant. She ensures the water remains clear and free from suspended solids, crucial for both our processes and the environment.
🌟 Final Inspections: Before any product leaves our facility, Danilo, our quality inspector, conducts a final review. He makes sure every detail is perfect, even the underside of our wooden pallets.
These activities are just a part of our commitment to excellence. We’re passionate about delivering the best because quality matters to us as much as it does to you.
