Mark your calendars for the exciting challenge ahead! The assessment tests are scheduled for August 25th at 10:00 AM. Given the high qualifications of most, if not all, applicants, we advise thorough preparation.

📚 Two Types of Exams Await:

Academic Background Exam: This exam will delve into key areas including financial accounting, corporate finance, and macroeconomics. Review essential concepts like financial statement items, present value of cash flows, IRR, GDP, supply and demand, inflation, and monetary and fiscal policies. Your preparation in these areas will give you a solid foundation for success.

Competency-Based Exam: This exam evaluates two vital skills—Numerical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. To excel, we recommend taking practice tests to hone your abilities. The CFA Ambassadors are dedicated to ensuring you're well-prepared for this stage.

August 13th, marked the beginning of the ASU Bootcamp 2022 with the kickoff presentation all through the presence and supervision of Prof. Hayam Wahba, to which we give huge thanks. Followed by introduction to the subject company "Oriental Weavers" presented by Michael Yassa. Taking another step in sharing knowledge and providing a life-changing experience to the new candidates.

Completed your application? Here’s what to expect next.
After the application stage concludes; selected applicants will sit for two types of exams on the same day. The first type is an exam that will test your academic background, financial accounting, corporate finance, and macroeconomics.

The second type of exam is called competency-based exam, which measures two critical skills; Numerical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. We highly recommend you participate in our selection process as it is a fruitful experience in itself.

How can I prepare for the assessments?
You can prepare for the academic background assessment through revising basic concepts in
- Financial Accounting
- Corporate Finance / Financial Management
- Macroeconomics

Concepts to cover include but not limited to:
Financial statements main items and links, present value of cash flow, IRR, GDP, supply and demand, inflation, monetary and fiscal policies, from your preferable sources.

You can read your textbooks, surf the internet, or watch YouTube tutorials.

As for the competency-based assessment, we highly recommend you sit for practice tests. The CFA Ambassadors are keen on preparing you for every step of the process. The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition in Equity Research hosted by the CFA Institute since 2007. The competition provides university students with hands-on training and mentoring in financial analysis. Students assume the role of a research analyst and are scored based on their ability to value a stock, write an initiation-of-coverage report, and present their recommendations. The competition is split into three geographical regions, Asia Pacific, EMEA, and the Americas. Both undergrad and graduate students are eligible to participate. Teams begin in local competitions, from which winners advance to regional competitions. A final round held in April identifies the winning team at the global level.

By 2022, more than 5,000 students from over 900 universities based in 91 countries participated in the competition. Ain Shams University is one of the main participants since Egypt joined the competition. Our home university succeeded in becoming the national champion four times in 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2022 where we represented Egypt in the EMEA Regional competition in London, Dublin, and Zurich. And represented Egypt in the MENA Regional Competition in Dubai.

The internal competition qualifies you to participate in the CFA Research Challenge competition in Egypt.

More on our selection process:

1. Submitting the application form

2. Successful applicants will sit for two competency-based assessments.

3. Top scorers in the assessments will be invited to an interview.

4. Selected candidates will take part in a Bootcamp organized by ASU CFA Ambassadors. They will receive sessions covering different topics in Valuation, Financial Modeling, Macroeconomics, and Financial Accounting.

Bootcamp objective:
Candidates will be able to build a financial model, conduct a thorough valuation, and present their investment recommendation on a chosen subject company to a panel of judges.

5. The Bootcamp’s top five members will be selected to represent the Ain Shams University team in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2022-2023.

ASU CFA Ambassadors will provide support to the participating ASU candidates throughout every stage of the process. Good luck to all participants.
