On Thursday December 21, the sunrise illuminates the inner sanctum of Qasr Qaroun temple which was dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek.

The Temple area will open its doors for visitors at 6:00 am. The celebration starts at 6:45 am and features a folkloric show…See you there!

Trip to the North side of lake Quarun

Start from Tunis Village to the North side of lake Quarun, where you can see many different kind of birds in the immigration time.

First stop is at Qasr El Saga, which is translated as “Goldsmith’s Palace”. Qasr El Sagha was discovered by the archaeologist Schweinfurth in 1884. The temple is made of massive local limestones, most probably built in the Middle Kingdom.

Then we will visit Jebel Qatrani’s Open Air Museum and the “petrified forest”, where you can see preserved tree trunks, which are around 33 million years old. In the open air museum you can also see the skeleton of turtles, crocodiles, snakes etc.

On our way back we stop at Dimeh El Sebaa or Soknopaiou Nesos and Graeco-Roman-settlement. It’s located around 8 km south of Qasr El Sagha. 🇪🇬

Please be informed that the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced an increase in the prices of tickets for archaeological sites in Egypt. The prices are applicable only to foreign tourists starting from the beginning of December 2023.

The prices of Entry tickets for the archaeological sites and museums in Fayoum will be as follows:

- Qasr Qaroun Temple: 150 EGP per Foreign adult / 75 EGP per Foreign student

- The Pyramid of Hawara: 150 EGP per Foreign adult / 75 EGP per Foreign student.

- The Pyramid of Lahun: 150 EGP per Foreign adult / 75 EGP per Foreign student.

- Karanis: 150 EGP per Foreign adult / 75 EGP per Foreign student.

- Medinat Madi Archaeological site: 120 EGP per Foreign adult / 60 EGP per Foreign student.

- Kom Aushim Museum: 100 EGP per Foreign adult / 50 EGP per Foreign student.

Wadi el Hitan
The Valley of the whales, is a UNESCO world heritage site since 2005. It’s one of the most beautiful and interesting sights on a desert trip starting from Fayoum.
The Eco-architecture is in harmony with the nature of Wadi El Hitan. Once you arrive in Wadi al Hitan you will start with a movie and a visit to the climate change museum, which explains the place you are visiting and how climate change has influenced the evolution of animals and plants in that area.
The museum is half buried under the ground to keep a comfortable temperature inside the museum without using an air condition.
The fossils in Wadi el Hitan demonstrate the evolution of whales in the past 40.000.000 years.
