Iran in response to the talks of the US and Saudi foreign ministers: a futile

The Iranian Foreign Ministry responded to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's talks with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in which they discussed a number of regional issues, including Iran.

The Iranian embassy in London said through its official account on "Twitter", that

"Everyone should realize that Iran cannot be the subject of others' negotiations, and this method has proven futile and unsuccessful."

"On the contrary, Iran can be a strong party in any negotiations, provided that its strength as a pillar of security in the region is recognized and its interests are respected accordingly," she added.

The embassy shared the US Secretary of State's statement about the talks, in which he indicated that the two ministers discussed regional security and the attack last month on the Mercer Street tanker in the Arabian Sea, which Washington accuses Iran of carrying out.

The statement added that the two ministers also discussed enhancing security cooperation along with Saudi Arabia's support for a comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and the need to take immediate steps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis there.

Iran records a record number of Corona injuries due to the Delta strain

Tehran - (dpa)

The outbreak of the "Delta" strain of the Corona virus inside Iran caused a new record number of infections, just two days after recording a record number in the country that was severely affected by the virus.

Today, Monday, the Iranian Ministry of Health announced the registration of 37,189 new infections with the Corona virus during the past 24 hours, exceeding the previous record total of 34,951 infections, which was recorded on Friday.

The ministry also announced the registration of 411 new deaths, which is three times higher than the number recorded before the emergence of the strain.

This brings the total number of people infected with the virus to 3,940,708 people, and deaths to 91,406 cases, according to what the Iranian Tasnim News Agency quoted the Ministry of Health as saying.

The ministry added that, to date, 10,285,494 citizens have received the first dose of the anti-Coronavirus vaccine, while 2,795,680 others have received the second dose of this vaccine.

Hospitals and nursing staff are under severe strain due to the virus, as intensive care units and emergency rooms in many cities are full. This situation prompted Health Minister Saeed Namki to call for the imposition of a two-week closure.

And the ISNA student news agency reported that Namaki's urgent request was directed directly to the Corona Virus Crisis Committee today, Monday, and is expected to be reviewed and implemented immediately, tomorrow, Tuesday.

British Prime Minister, Boris JohnsonBritish Prime Minister: Iran must face the consequences of the "outrageous" attack on the Israeli ship

https://twitter.com/i/status/1422204540682637317
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that Iran must face the consequences of its "outrageous" attack on an Israeli-run oil tanker off the coast of Oman.

"Iran must face the consequences of what it did," Johnson told reporters. "This was clearly an unacceptable and outrageous attack on commercial shipping," according to Reuters.

"A British citizen has passed away, and it is absolutely essential that Iran and every other country respect freedom of navigation around the world, and the UK will continue to insist on this," he added.

Secret files reveal alleged Iranian plans to sink ships using cyber attacks

Sky News reported that a set of top-secret documents, allegedly Iranian, show that Tehran is establishing a bank as potential targets for cyberattacks to sink a cargo ship or blow up a fuel pump at a petrol station.

The internal Iranian files, obtained by Sky News, also include information about satellite communication devices used by the global shipping industry as well as a computer-based system that controls things like lights, heating and ventilation in smart buildings around the world.

According to the site, the documents reveal a special Iranian interest in searching for companies and activities in Western countries, including the United Kingdom, France and the United States.

A security source familiar with the 57-page set of research documents, consisting of five reports, said that the group was collected by a secret offensive cyber unit called "Shahid Kaveh", which is part of the cyber command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The documents were reportedly written by Intelligence Team 13.

"They are setting up a target bank to use whenever they see fit," the source was quoted as saying.

He added that Intelligence Team 13 "is supposed to be fairly secretive. They are working on offensive cyber operations globally."

However, the documents appear to be based on open sources and online searches, rather than classified information, according to Sky.

The Iranian embassy in London refused to comment on this news.

One document showed blueprints of systems designed to keep cargo ships balanced even when tilted.

"These pumps are used to introduce water into the tanks through centrifuges, and in order to function properly, the task must be completed accurately. Any problems that may lead to the sinking of the ship," the document states.

It also states that "any kind of disruptive effect can cause disruption within these systems and can cause significant irreparable damage to the ship.

Iran: Security forces use live ammunition and birdshot to crush Khuzestan protests
Amnesty International said today that Iranian security forces have used unlawful force - including live ammunition and birdshot - to crush mostly peaceful protests taking place across the southern province of Khuzestan. Videos taken over the past week - coupled with consistent accounts from the scene - indicate that security forces have used lethal automatic weapons, shotguns that fire indiscriminate ammunition, and tear gas to disperse protesters.

Since the outbreak of protests over severe water shortages in Khuzestan on 15 July, security forces have shot dead at least eight protesters and bystanders - including a boy - in seven different cities. According to official statements, one policeman was also shot dead in Mahshahr. Dozens of people, including children, were injured, including by shotguns, and a number of them were hospitalized in critical condition due to gunshot wounds. The security and intelligence forces arrested dozens of protesters and activists, including many members of the Ahwazi Arab minority, in a mass arrest campaign.

“The use of live ammunition against unarmed protesters who pose no imminent threat to the lives of others is a horrific violation of the authorities’ duty to protect human lives,” said Diana Eltahawy, Deputy Middle East and North Africa Director at Amnesty International. Protesters in Iran who take to the streets to express legitimate economic and political grievances face a barrage of gunfire, tear gas and arrests.

“The Iranian authorities have a horrific record of using unlawful lethal force. The unfolding events in Khuzestan are chilling echoes of November 2019 when security forces unlawfully killed hundreds of protesters and bystanders, but were never held accountable. Ending impunity is extremely important to prevent further bloodshed.”

The use of live ammunition against unarmed protesters who do not pose an imminent threat to the lives of others is a shocking violation of the authorities' duty to protect human lives.

Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International
Amnesty International is calling on the Iranian authorities to immediately cease the use of automatic weapons and rifles that fire indiscriminately and cause severe and painful wounds and are wholly unsuitable for use in all policing situations. It should also release all those detained solely for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of expression and assembly, and protect all detainees from torture and other ill-treatment. The authorities should also ensure that the wounded have safe access to medical care in hospitals without being subjected to arbitrary arrest, and the Iranian authorities should also put an end to the ongoing deliberate blockages and shutdowns of the Internet throughout the region to curtail human rights.

Iran has witnessed a worsening water crisis in recent years that has deprived people of their right to clean and safe water, and has led to several protests including in Khuzestan. Environmental researchers say the authorities have failed to take adequate measures to address the crisis.

Evidence of unlawful use of force

According to analysis by Amnesty International's arms expert, the sound of automatic weapons fire can be heard in multiple videos - related to the protests in Khuzestan province - that have been circulating on social media since 15 July, including in the cities of Iza, Ahvas and Kot Abdullah, Susankard (known to the local Ahwazi Arabs as Khafajia) and Shushtar.

What is the secret of the "mysterious paper" that Biden carried during the Al-Kazemi meeting?

US President Joe Biden appeared during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi at the White House, on Monday, carrying a paper, which he apparently used to take notes on the subject of talks with his Iraqi guest.

On the paper, which the photographers’ lenses were able to capture, two sentences were written: “US prepares to respond to attacks,” and “Iran considering of holding back attacks,” meaning: “The United States is preparing to respond to the attacks,” and “Iran takes into consideration Stop the attacks," respectively.

It seems that Iran was the focus of conversation between Biden and Al-Kazemi during this meeting, after the repeated attacks on US bases in Iraq, which Washington accuses of pro-Iranian militias of being behind.

This issue is important at this time, especially with Biden's announcement, on Monday, that the "combat mission" of the US forces in Iraq has ended, and the start of a "new phase" of military cooperation, in a step that comes 18 years after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Previous positions

appeared President Biden also earlier this month reviewed a paper he took out of his pocket, before answering a journalist's question about whether Russia was behind the Ramsomware attacks targeting US companies and government agencies, justifying his action that he had just been briefed. about this topic.

President Biden also appeared at the first press conference last March, carrying clippings with notes recorded, in what Republicans and conservative commentators considered a "kind of fraud", and evidence of "the president's weakness and inability to deal with the press", as his Republican predecessor Donald Trump was doing. , as reported by Newsweek.

During the race in July last year, Biden, then the Democratic presidential nominee, appeared bearing handwritten notes topping the name of (then) Senator and current Vice President Kamala Harris, along with a slew of brief comments about her.

At the time, the lenses of the press were able to pick up phrases such as: "Do not hold a grudge", "a great addition to the election campaign", and "I respect her very much", in what seemed at the time to indicate the important position of Harris in the Democratic candidate's efforts to reach the White House.

Republicans and conservative media such as Fox News have used these sporadic positions to prove their claims of "the president's memory and mental decline."

Ronnie Jackson, Republican Representative and former Trump White House physician, has called on President Biden to follow in his predecessor's footsteps and complete the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a 30-point test that measures memory impairment for age and related issues, including dementia and cognitive decline. .

"I think he (Biden) shows every day that something is going on," Jackson said, according to "Fox News."

But the British newspaper "The Guardian" indicates that it is not unusual for American presidents to take notes and read them during their conferences, including, according to the newspaper, Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy, who are known for their rhetorical abilities.

Biden for Tehran... No consolation prizes in Lebanon and the region

The extension of US President Joe Biden restores an executive order on Lebanon issued by former US President George W. Bush on August 1, 2007, allowing the imposition of US sanctions on those who threaten Lebanon's sovereignty, shedding light on the broad outlines of the Biden administration's foreign policy towards the region, especially Lebanon.
The new point in this regard is what Biden said in the letter he sent to Congress to inform him of his decision to continue working in this matter, considering that Iran's continued transfer of weapons to Hezbollah undermines Lebanon's sovereignty. It is noteworthy that the matter coincided with the assertion of the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joe Hood, that the United States is working to gather international efforts in an alliance in order to impose pressure on the Lebanese leaders so that they know that they will not be welcome in our country or work with us, whether governmental or economic. As long as they don't take care of their people first.

Concerned diplomatic sources from Washington explained, to the Lebanese Forces website, that "the executive order issued by Bush in 2007 is renewed annually, because if it is not extended, it would be as if we are stripping the powers and capabilities of the US president in case he needs to take certain decisions related to Lebanon." .
