with regards to feelings related to a 'Commissioned painting' versus those feelings for an inspired artwork.

I made it, ...... but only just in time!
😮‍💨 phew …

When someone commissions a painting it’s always just a little bit more stressful than when I paint because I’m inspired…. Especially if there’s a time limit, as there was for example with this one: - and that date is tomorrow!

And typical! ( I couldn’t help myself)… when I should have been wrapping it, I started touching up some areas. An oil painting!
It had to be sent off, registered in the P.Office before 4pm in order to arrive at the hotel in barcelona for tomorrow the 26th.
A 2 days window!

I wonder how much of that is ‘perfectionism’? how much is ‘not knowing when to stop’, another bad ‘artist trait’.
Or maybe it's the ever present just below the surface, 'my work is not good enough ….'

What do you other artists think?
Do you know when to stop? Do you touch things up constantly feeling it's not good enough?
Do you feel the same about letting a painting go if it was a commission as opposed to an inspired work?

Personally I confess, it's a totally different feeling, when I send off an inspired piece, that is, a "non commissioned' piece, compared to posting off a commissioned work.
It’s so much more painful!

I find it extremely difficult to let go of some paintings; it’s like giving up a child, or an intimate part of myself!

There are some paintings I wish I’d never sold, & I feel a heavy sadness … and regret.

I know of some artists who only entertain selling prints of their artwork: fine if you’re selling lots of prints (or maybe making a “limited edition print”) but I have enough on my plate promoting my work, keeping up with everything & to be honest, I simply don’t have the space to keep everything I paint 'at home', where I'm fortunate enough to have space, though I still haven't managed to set myself up with a gallery space, or, an 'Atelier' which is my dream.
I will do it and soon. The Atelier I mean.

Anyway, that’s going to be my next post > to get my fellow artist friends & followers to post one painting they wish they hadn’t sold!

I never feel the sadness when sending off a commissioned work, it's a wonderful feeling, it's an 'accomplishment', and a feeling of achieving something. I suppose it’s also because it 'never really belonged' to me in the first place, there’s no soul attachment!
