What is (known as “businessmen’s disease”) and how it can be treated? Bruxism or “teeth clenching” is becoming ever more common. By some estimates, it affects 1 person in 10. Usually, it manifests as very strong tension of the patient’s masticatory muscles, of which the patient may be unaware.🦷

WILL MY DENTAL IMPLANT LAST FOREVER?

🦷This is the question we often hear from our patients. In this post we will try and give a detailed answer.

🦷First of all, it should be noted that in our clinic we use dental implants made of medical grade titanium. This material is biocompatible and its properties are very similar to those of bone tissue. In 3 to 6 months after the placement, the implant fuses to the bone. This attachment is indeed very resistant, and therefore we may say that an implant lasts forever.

🦷YET, it is crucial that you follow your implant surgeon’s recommendations and take into account certain specific factors:

1️⃣The implants’ hygiene and maintenance MUST be taken seriously. Dental implants are more susceptible to contamination and infection than teeth because they lack any protective barrier. The food debris need to be removed carefully and efficiently. For placement over the implant, we recommend to opt for removable crowns and visit us twice a year. During those visits we will demount your dental crown, check its condition, clean it and place it back in.

2️⃣It is important to distribute correctly the masticatory force. This distribution does not depend on the implant brand or its location. To assure the correct dental implants planning each case is studied individually, this is why you need a highly experienced implant surgeon.

3️⃣ The dental implant longevity also depends on such factors as overall health, chronic diseases (for example, diabetes) and lifestyle.

👩‍⚕️If patient leads a healthy life, has no chronic diseases and follows the rules for oral hygiene, we can say that an implant may last almost forever. In our practice we have observed some implants placed 20 years ago that still are in great condition.

🔹 Binocular optics is equipment that not long ago made its appearance in the market, but has already gained popularity not only in dentistry, but in other areas where doctors need to work with tiny structures inaccessible to the human eye: surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, etc.

Binoculars are a kind of microscopes 🔬 that allow you to observe an object by increasing the reach of both eyes at the same time.
