MURR Archaeometry Lab is currently accepting proposals for the 2020 cycle of our Pre-Doctoral Internship Program. This is a paid internship program designed for graduate students seeking experience and support for their dissertation projects.



We are currently accepting proposals with a focus on compositional analysis of archaeological materials, including ceramics, pigments, or lithics, using one or more methods available through our laboratory (NAA, XRF, LA-ICP-MS). Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology or other closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing the completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. The doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/2020). 2) Evidence of effective teaching in anthropology at the undergraduate level, particularly in biological anthropology.
3) Evidence of scholarly engagement (e.g., publications, external funding, presentations, and partnerships).
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduates and/or graduate students.
2) Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor a diverse student population.
3) Experience developing fieldwork, research projects, or community-based projects with students.
4) Teaching and/or research experience that complements current faculty specializations, including but not limited to: human skeletal biology, forensics, dental anthropology, primatology, human ecology, immigration/migration, socioeconomic inequality, contact/colonization, or gender and identity.
Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The selected candidate may be assigned to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory biological anthropology as well as upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. The regional area of focus is open.

This position is one of five faculty lines that have been created across campus for researchers whose interests intersect with the goals and resources of the Turkana Basin Institute.

We seek to hire an individual with expertise in hominin paleontology. We encourage applicants from any area of hominin evolutionary morphology, including craniodental and postcranial skeletal morphology, phylogenetics and paleobiology. We are offering two fully funded PhD scholarships (scholarship and tuition fee waiver) in Archaeological Science/Analytical Chemistry, for students wishing to join us on an exciting new project using genomic and chemical analysis for understanding past material exchange.



The project is funded by the Australian Research Council and is based at Flinders University, in Adelaide, Australia. Working closely with Indigenous communities, this research aims to identify the origins and movements of Australian archaeological ochre through the development of a novel tool combining genomic and chemical analysis. Using this new archaeomicrobiological technique, the project hopes to answer significant questions about past human behaviour, in terms of trade, cultural interactions, territoriality and colonisation.



The project is a collaboration of analytical chemists, archaeologists and genomic scientists and collaboration with Indigenous communities; therefore, the students will be involved in a mixture laboratory and genomics research along with archaeological field work. The students will be co-supervised by the project team, which is comprised of chemists and archaeologists (Rachel Popelka-Filcoff, Claire Lenehan, Claire Smith and Amy Roberts).
