Painter, poet, and publisher, Chordà is a pioneer in the visual expression of the female body, female sexuality, and the experience of maternity. The MACBA presents the exhibition “Mari Chordà... and Many Other Things,” dedicated to the artist’s work, curated by Teresa Grandas and co-produced by MACBA and MAMT.

We are delighted to contribute to this exhibition by consigning five of the artist’s works. This enables us to participate in the presentation of Chordà’s art at this cultural institution. Furthermore, we were honored to sell two of her pieces to MACBA during the exhibition we organized at our Barcelona gallery in 2022.

🗓️ Until 12.01.2025.
📍 Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, Barcelona.

As Luis Pérez-Oramas mentioned on Joaquín Torres-García in the article in the catalogue published by the MoMA (2016), “His toys were figures of infancy made by an artist fascinated by the infancy of forms. They also marked the infancy of his sculptural practice, and as such would lead to a number of similarly anthropomorphic works”.

‘Our North is the South’ is the first monographic exhibition devoted to Joaquín Torres-García by the Mayoral gallery, displaying a selection of 17 pieces, including oil paintings, drawings and toys, produced between 1917 and 1937.

🗓️ Until 9.06.

And after landing, what’s next? What happens when we have already fallen and nothing spectacular has happened? Has anything changed?

With a raw but delicate outlook and a firm yet shaky stroke, Vogel works with the power of tension and its limits or fissures.

The work of Pia Camil (Mexico City, 1980) explores the tension between the personal and the communal. The installation ‘Bara Bara Bara Bara’ (2017) pays homage to Lygia Pape’s revolutionary performance ‘Divisor’ (1968), which united individuals in a shared experience by creating a collective artwork. The title is an abbreviation of ‘barato’ (cheap in Spanish), as referred to the shout of street market vendors, as it emulates the awnings of these characteristic open-air markets in Mexico. Deconstructing T-shirts produced in Latin America, sold in the USA and returned to the second-hand markets of Mexico City, Camil draws attention to the mechanisms of globalization and the boundaries of commercial routes.

Lock-in of Intellectuals at Montserrat, Barcelona, 1970.

The Montserrat lock-in, which unfolded on December 12, 13, and 14 in 1970, emerged as a powerful demonstration against the Burgos trials and witnessed the active participation of prominent artists and intellectuals. This historical event symbolizes a pivotal moment in Spanish history when voices of dissent and creative minds converged to stand against injustice.
