Nowadays, the Diada has become a popular, festive day of protest, on which Catalan people massively and peacefully rally for Catalan independence. Since 2012, huge demonstrations have filled Barcelona and Catalonia’s streets, with hundreds of thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets every year to assert their right to self-determination every year.
This year’s 11th of September protest will take place in five different cities: Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Lleida and Tortosa

Festa Major del Poblenou – Street festival/party
Date: September 6 to September 15
As a yearly tradition, Barcelona’s neighborhoods take turns hosting their versions of a neighborhood block party. In September, districts of Barceloneta, La Ribera, and Poblenou all hold Festa Major. Festa Major del Poblenou transforms this residential area into a street part of sorts. The bars, restaurants, and cafés are bustling with activities and free concerts across the neighborhood.
Barça, the only football club to have a proprietary store at Madrid Barajas airport💙❤️
L’únic club de futbol amb botiga pròpia a l’aeroport de Madrid Barajas.
El Barça, único club de fútbol con tienda propia en el aeropuerto de Madrid Barajas.
Second only to the Festa Major de Gracia in terms of summer revelry, the Festa Major de Sants is another chance to attend one of Barcelona’s district parties. Expect decorated streets, DJs, workshops, live concerts, castellers and no shortage of boozing and carousing. Most of the action takes place in the streets just behind (west of) Sants Train Station, although there are also some stages in and around the Industrial Park. This is actually my favourite Festa Major in the whole year with a delightfully local vibe.

It's the showtime!!!!
Escalivada is a traditional Catalan dish made with peppers, aubergines and onions. The name escalivada comes from the Catalan verb escalivar, meaning to cook slowly in ashes for a char-grilled result. However, this recipe uses the more common method of oven roasting the vegetables. It’s a wonderfully simple dish that is perfect to enjoy on its own with a glass of wine and some crusty bread, and you'll often find it on menus as an appetizer or as an accompaniment to a hearty meat dish. Sometimes instead of adding anchovies it is paired with sausage, such as butifarra or fuet, or goats’ cheese. Escalivada can be enjoyed at any temperature.
There's no greater performance location than Gaudi's spectacular Art Nouveau mansion's rooftop, whether you're visiting Barcelona in August or at any other time. Not only can you enjoy rare evening access to one of Barcelona's most spectacular views, but you can also attend a performance on the Dragon Roof Terrace. Rock and roll, jazz, opera, soul, flamenco, and other genres are all represented in the concerts.
Such a beautiful trophy-laden journey. It would be an achievement at any club-not just Barcelona. People underestimated Sergi’s contribution due to the stars he played with during his time. Great to see the club organizing a proper goodbye for a club legend, the last Guardiola’s boy.
Festa major de Gràcia del 15 al 21 d'agost
Party like the locals during this free-to-attend street festival that is beloved by toddlers and teens, and parents and pensioners alike. Different streets compete to win the prize of the best-dressed pavements, following a mix of local and pop culture themes… so expect to find anything from grand nautical set pieces to bizarre homages to popular kids programmes, like Paw Patrol. Decorations aside, entertainment comes in the form of live music, DJs and pop-up bars, while you can also find parades, workshops and demonstrations of health-and-safety-defying Catalan traditions like castellers (human castles) and correfoc (fire runs). Just wander into the Gracia district between 15th and 21st August inclusive, and follow your nose to find the action.
Festa major de Sant Roc, 13-17 Agost.
If you’re looking for something authentic and traditional, then look no further than the city’s oldest barrio party.
Held in honour of Saint Roc, who, according to legend, caught the plague upon a visit to the city but was nursed back to health by a local baker’s dog and protected the city against a later outbreak.
It’s like stepping into a time machine as the costumes, songs, and dances are pretty much the same as they were for the first edition in 1589. In the streets and squares of the Gothic Quarter, you’ll find performances of the Sardana (a traditional Catalan dance) and parades of papier mâché giants.
The highlight here is the chaotic correfoc, a sort of parade with adults and children dressed up as devils and lighting off firecrackers while a series of fire-spitting dragons fire off sparklers and fireworks in all directions.
What could be more fitting that visiting Barcelona’s Temple of August (or what remains of it), during the month named after the Roman Emperor? Only four columns remain of what would have been a sizeable 37-metre-long place of worship, but given that they are close to 2,000 years old these remnants are still impressive – and free to visit at centre d'excursionistes de Catalunya near Pl. Sant Jaume.

Esqueixada de bacallà is a traditional Catalan dish, a salad of shredded salt cod, tomatoes, onions, olive oil and vinegar and salt.
The name of the dish comes from the Catalan verb esqueixar, to tear or shred. The salt cod in the dish is always shredded with the fingers, never sliced or chopped, to achieve the correct texture.
Located between Montjuic mountain and Parallel avenue, the Poble-sec neighborhood houses an urban market. The neighborhood's biggest festival takes place in the second half of July. The festivities take place in a variety of iconic locations, such as the Plaza del Sortidor, the Tres Xemeneies, and the El Molino theatre, and are organized by numerous organizations. The programme emphasizes dancing and, above all, music, but there is also a strong presence of popular culture, with meetings with giants, castellers, and correfocs.

Faves a la catalana!!
In Catalunya, broad beans have formed part of the local cuisine since ancient times. Today it is a very popular dish, normally consumed during the harvest season, which lasts from February until late June. Made with mainly fava beans, stock and a small bit of botifarra negra, a Catalan blood pudding. Both a filling and hearty dish, this bomb is usually cooked in an earthenware dish.
Preparation:
Fry the pancetta, scallions and onion in a cooking pot until they begin to colour. Add the broad beans, herbs, sausage and a cup of water. Season with salt and pepper.
Cover with the lid and place on a low heat until the broad beans are cooked.
