Finding balance is hard!
Ceramics is a good teacher of life lessons. Ceramic artists are always searching for balance. Clay seems to always be too wet or too dry. As every process is best done at a different stage and variables are constantly changing.
It can take years to be familiar enough with the material to know when the clay is the perfect consistency for any given technique/step.
It also takes self-control to not rush things. At the same time if you wait too long you loose your window of opportunity. Another challenging balance act for ceramicists is making what sells vs making what you are passionate about. Making things efficiently and having a cohesive product line vs exploring the endless possibilities.

This contemporary hanging planter is perfect for plants that don't require much soil such as air plants (as pictured) small succulents and cacti. Hand thrown on the potters wheel. Website coming soonish!!!
Really liking how my self watering planters are functioning😁. Inspired by traditional Olla pots. Simply fill the middle column and the water will be wicked through the porous terracotta and into the soil.
Also a website launch is coming soonish 😅.
I promise nice things 😉
We just had our first themed exhibition studio and the theme was plants so I showed my terracotta grow system prototype. I still have some work to finalize the design but I'm very pleased with how it's working😁. As this design is intended to be hung to utilize unused overheads pace in small urban apartments with higher ceilings I was thinking of calling it the Loft Grow system. What would you name it?
The Loft Grow System uses high power high efficiency Samsung Lm561c 5630 full spectrum and high cri rated diodes. These leds are well rounded and sufficient to grow most plants without the need for any additional lighting. Perfect for interiors that do not have good natural light.
I plan to get aluminum pcb boards manufactured with a more even distribution of the diodes when I finalize the design.
New Iron saturate glazes I made for the studio are looking beautiful!
Making progress on this prototype oh my grow system. Can't wait to see it finished ith the lights installed and start testing! 😁
I'm so excited to have had the opportunity to work with a hospitality consultancy to design and make 125 ceramic pieces along with for the lobby of Intercontinental Hotel Barcelona.
I hope to do more projects like this in the future.
I also made a few in a teal and mustard color scheme. They look good but it's not quite the teal I was looking for. I think the green color I got would have been better with light pinkish peach bottoms.
I have a lot of color testing to get done. Keep an eye on my stories for process content.
Inspired by Panton's 2021 color of the year and foam rubber shoe soles. Minimal with a pop a fun. 😉
These have been sitting on the shelf waiting to be glazed for almost a year. Feels good to finally finish them.
Stoneware with a matte glaze with 5% grey pigment and yellow engobe.
