This is a very interesting read.
The final comments from the to***co industry are jaw dropping !

"In 2001, a collective of Spanish cigarette and to***co manufacturers won a landmark victory in the High Court against plaintiffs who wanted to ban to***co and sue the industry. A key part of the manufacturers’ defence was that the massive amount of tax paid on ci******es outweighed the health budget needed to treat cancer patients. To date, no Spanish court has convicted to***co companies for harming smokers."

So they know they are causing cancer and other life ending illnesses... But it's ok because the tax covers it ??

FUN FACT: It’s cheaper to have S*X ON THE BEACH than it is to SMOKE

This week we posted and acritical about the fine that could be imposed for Smoking on the beach’s in Spain, and today I have to say, “I love Google,” as it’s popping up many other beach by laws and fines attached.

S*X ON THE BEACH (not the cocktail), this is also illegal! However the fine is only up to 750euros whereas smoking or va**ng can carry fines up to 2000euros
(There is another law about getting naked on a non-nudist beach which is a 650euro fine)

So it could be costly if you get naked, have s*x and then an after s*x smoke …..

Possibly a better idea to wait until you get home 😜

Breathe easy spaces for families What are the new smoking rules in Spain 2024?

July 2024 : Spain now has 655 SMOKE FREE beaches

The new anti-smoking plan limits where people can smoke, increases to***co prices and includes a crackdown on va**ng.

Spain bans to***co use in all indoor public places, and policy-makers are leading the way to extend smoke-free zones to even more outdoor spaces, including public swimming pools, crowded streets, children’s playparks and of course more of the country's sunny beaches

The ecological law was passed through Spain’s Congress and Senate, approved and now actioned.

It includes a clause which would empower local councils to impose fines of up to €2000 for smoking on beaches.

There are currently seven municipalities in the province of Malaga with smoke-free beaches: Torrox, Algarrobo, Velez Malaga, Estepona and Mijas Costa.

SMOKE FREE beaches include:
Mijas: The three blue flag beaches along the extensive coastal area of Mijas, Calahonda-La Luna-Royal Beach, El Bombo and La Cala de Mijas.

Velez Malaga is one of the municipalities with the most beaches in the province of Malaga added Lagos, Mezquitilla, Caleta, Torre del Mar, Valle Nizas and Benajarafe: all of which are smoke-free beaches.

Estepona’s most popular beach, ‘La Rada,’ is also smoke-free.
Smoke-free beaches in Torrox: The promenade of El Morche, the beach of Ferrara, the beach of El Cenicero and the beach of El Peñoncillo are the places reserved for non-smokers.

Smoke-free beaches in Marbella: Playa El Faro, Playa de San Pedro de Alcántara

Smoke-free beach in Algarrobo: all the beaches that correspond to this municipality are non-smoking spaces.

Smoking is banned on over 57 Costa del Sol beaches

When in doubt and before lighting up, check the signs at beach entrances for more details on where smoking is not permitted,

And always ensure you take your cigarette butts with you as the fine for littering can be just as harsh.

Va**ng addiction caused TV star respiratory failure

Paul Danan has revealed that he had to be given CPR after he suffered respiratory failure brought on by his addiction to v**es.
The 45-year-old star of Love Island and Hollyoaks has said that he had to be brought back to life after he collapsed last month and spent a week in intensive care, where he then contracted pneumonia. The actor has blamed his years of smoking for his health battle.

Paul said that his family were warned by doctors at Whipps Cross hospital, East London, that “he might not make it through the night” and admits that "it’s a miracle I’m here," after he "died" following his collapse at his parents' home.

Paul said: "I’m upstairs puffing away on my v**e then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed. My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital. I was on a machine in ICU and ended up with pneumonia. My family were warned I might not make it through the night. I’m so lucky.”

The soap star also revealed that doctors told him straight the reasons why he was in such a critical position. He said: "The doctor was so, so harsh with me. She told me, ‘Paul, you don’t know how serious this was and you are going to be in here for a while now, on this oxygen’. She said if I ever smoke in any form again I risk being linked to an oxygen tank later on in life. She said that’s it now."

Paul, who starred in the original 2005 series of Celebrity Love Island, added: “After years of smoking ci******es and all sorts, it’s the va**ng which has done me in. That pushed me over the edge.”
The reality star has had a history of addiction, battling drugs and alcohol in the past but he has said that he has been clean for more than three years.
He quit smoking ci******es in 2021 but became addicted to v**es instead.

He said that the flavours and "a YouTube video" convinced him that va**ng was safer than ci******es, adding that his ADHD had made "everything very visual" and "always thought they’d be OK."

While experts have said that v**es are better for users than ci******es, they still contain ni****ne, which is addictive and that the NHS have said it "is not harmless”.

Paul said that he became "obsessed" with disposable v**es but he is "worried about the kids today, all you see is kids with v**es."

IQOS Heats to***co instead of burning it so is it effective in helping quit smoking?
And does this mean it’s better for you than ci******es or v**es ?
Well here is what we do and don’t know
We do not know if IQOS is less harmful or more or if it will cause less disease than smoking in the long run, or more: As with the v**e, they haven’t been around long enough to gather the long term research. But as with the v**e, we do know there have been enough early symptoms that packets must now state they contain more than 70 carcinogenic substances
And they may be just as harmful as regular ci******es and so-called ‘light’ ci******es.
Heating the to***co instead of burning may produce fewer cancer-causing substances. And the ones that are released are in lower amounts. But that doesn't mean IQOS is safe.
IQOS devices do not use heated liquids, like e-ci******es, to deliver ni****ne into the body. IQOS devices heat real to***co leaves that contain many naturally occurring toxins and cancer-producing substances.
It is NOT an effective tool to help users quit smoking regular ci******es; it’s just another ni****ne delivery device.
At the end of the day it’s still a poison that you are feeding into your body, no matter what delivery system you’re using.
If you do smoke, the best thing you can do for your health is quit all to***co products.
If you don't smoke, don't start.

Don’t Switch - Just quit 3min read ☕
Some smokers may think that e-ci******es will help them quit, but substituting one addiction for another is not quitting.

Despite what Juul and e-cigarette companies want you to believe, switching to va**ng (e-ci******es) is not quitting smoking. E-ci******es are still to***co products, and FDA has not approved any e-cigarette as a quit smoking device.

In fact, the FDA must crack down on the unproven health claims made by the e-cigarette industry because it's confusing people who want to quit smoking.

The Food and Drug Administration has not found any e-cigarette to be safe and effective in helping smokers quit. The fact is, e-ci******es are to***co products too.

Though we still have a lot to learn about the health consequences of va**ng, we are very troubled by what we’ve seen so far. E-ci******es still produce a number of dangerous chemicals including acrolein and formaldehyde.

FUN FACT: Acrolein is principally used as a biocide to control plants, algae, molluscs, fungi, rodents, and microorganisms.
Formaldehyde: In 2022, the European Union officially named a carcinogen, known as a cancer-causing chemical:

As we’ve recently seen on the news, the inhalation of harmful chemicals can cause irreversible lung damage, lung diseases—and even death.

It's not just harmless water vapour. The "e-juice" that fills the cartridges usually contains ni****ne (which is extracted from to***co), propylene glycol, flavourings and other chemicals. Studies have found that even e-ci******es claiming to be ni****ne-free contain trace amounts of ni****ne.

Additionally, when the e-liquid heats up, more toxic chemicals are formed.
E-cigarette composition /v**es effects vary.
What researchers do know is that these toxic chemicals and metals have all been found in e-ci******es:
ANOTHER FUN FACT:
Ni****ne – a highly addictive substance that negatively affects adolescent brain development

Propylene glycol – a common additive in food; also used to make things like antifreeze, paint solvent, and artificial smoke in fog machines.

Diacetyl – a chemical linked to a lung disease called bronchiolitis obliterans aka "popcorn lung"

Diethylene glycol – a toxic chemical used in antifreeze that is linked to lung disease.
Heavy metals such as nickel, tin, lead.

Cadmium – a toxic metal found in traditional ci******es that causes breathing problems and disease

Benzene - found in car exhaust

Do the cigarette companies want you to start va**ng? Of course they do, they need to get the next generation hooked and addicted to their products or they go out of business…
AND what’s the best way to influence a child or teen into smoking ?
Watching and emulating a loved one, a parent or grandparent, after all that’s how a lot of us oldies started smoking in the first place right.

We watched movie & pop stars puffing away and thought that’s cool.

Ian’s life changed when he suffered a heart attack at just 52. Little did he know, this marked the start of his journey living with a heart condition.

Things became even more difficult when he blacked out and had another heart attack a few years later.

We’ll have to get used to new rules. And if you break the rules?
You guessed it – you risk a fine. In some areas up to 2000 euros.

The ‘Beaches without Smoke’ campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of second-hand smoking in the open air and, more importantly, the effects cigarette butts have on the environment.

Apparently one cigarette butt will pollute 50 litres of seawater with ni****ne and tar and takes 10 years to degrade. In some cases, the butt will be eaten by fish and enter the food chain.

Over four trillion to***co filters are littered every year in countries worldwide, with a large number of them ending up in the oceans, thus bringing significant consequences for marine wildlife. A Spanish lawmaker with the Más País–Equo coalition, Inés Sabanés, has considered that on beaches where smoking is permitted, “cigarette butts continue to rank as the most found waste product and the one with the most significant impact, these new changes have also been introduced in order to tackle the problem of cigarette butts in the sea and sand”

Town councils across Spain are enforcing bans of no smoking or va**ng in even more public places.
Last year Benalmádena's councillor for Social Welfare, Alicia Laddaga, said the town hall implemented the ban smoking in places frequented by minors, parks including the popular Paloma Park, playgrounds, plazas and green areas, as well as some of the beaches in the municipality. This year this will also include the use of Vapes.
The councillor said that it was imperative to make clear the necessity of “smokeless spaces”, and also to compliment the initiative with “appropriate support” to help people stop smoking.
“This initiative can bring several benefits, such as promoting healthy lifestyles and to***co-free behaviours, de-normalising its consumption in society, especially in front of children, and taking care of the environment, this campaign is to create a network of healthy beaches, understand the coast as a playful area for the enjoyment of outdoor activities that promote smoke-free spaces, enrich the health of those who come to these destinations.”

Similar measures were introduced in Barcelona last year, with tourists risking heavy being fined if caught smoking ci******es.

Individual city councils can apply to participate in the campaign and are then responsible for implementing the necessary policies to keep their nominated beaches smoke free.

Andalucia’s beaches include: Almeria province, Cádiz province, Córdoba province, Granada province, Huelva province, Málaga province.

“Today, to***co use is among the leading causes of preventable disease and death worldwide. Exposure to smoke and fumes from to***co products has been shown to cause health problems similar to those caused by to***co use,” the spokesperson said.

A specific proposal has been created for the regulation of the prospective areas, which will be made available on the Citizen Participation Portal, residents can also contribute to the choice of smoke-free locations.

There are plenty of other beaches that have implemented similar smoking bans too, with 28 beaches on the Balearic Islands now going smoke-free
Also all 10 of Barcelona’s beaches are now “beaches without smoke”
You’ll have to look out for four-metre banners on these smoke-free beaches that also have QR codes that can give holiday-makers more information.

We’ll have to get used to new rules. And if you break the rules?
