A British International school that empowers children from 3 to 11 to develop not only academically
It was our end of year performance yesterday at the Felipe Auditorio in Estepona where all our community came together to celebrate some truly outstanding talent from students. It was also our first year that the leading role was played by a 6 year old who was absolutely tremendous! A big thank you to the children, staff and Melissa G who directed the production.
Why Montessori Remains Relevant Today In some areas of the educational world, it can sometimes be difficult to see how a pedagogy developed over 100 years still remains relevant in the 21st Century. The fundamental principle of Montessori pedagogy is child-centred learning where every student is able, within certain parameters, to choos...
Our last day of term is always special at Easter when the learners come in to school wearing an Easter bonnet to parade and where at the end of day there is a parent’s competition. This year was especially special to celebrate the forthcoming wedding of Melissa and James in Bali this month. We wish them and all our community a truly wonderful Easter and look forward to their return on Monday 17th April.
Our sports day for the primary learners was held at the prestigious Estepona Athletic stadium where they performed some wonderful races, A big thank you goes out to the children and guides who worked so hard and for all the parents who came to cheer them on.
On Wednesday was our Children’s House mini sports day when our youngest learners took part in many fun events in front of their parents and the rest of our community. They did magnificently and ‘hats off’ to them and their guides.
We have been working hard on our scripts today in preparation for our end of year production. There can not be many better places to do this than outside on a lovely spring day.
Yesterday our school photographer was busy taking some wonderful images of our learners for their parents. We are looking forward to seeing them after the Easter holiday.
Our primary learners continue to practice for our sports day at the amazing Estepona stadium at the end of the month. We are all looking forward to seeing them doing amazingly well.
On 10 February, we took part in the fundraising initiative organised by the British Council, NABSS, British and Ukrainian Embassies in Spain to support the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Thanks to the generosity of our small international community, we raised a grand total of 350 euros. This will be added to all the other participating British schools in Spain and be handed over to the Ukrainian Embassy tomorrow being the anniversary of the invasion.
Today we celebrated World Book Day with all our learners coming into school dressed as a book character. There were some marvellous creations and the whole day was dedicated to reading with the older children reading to the younger ones, lots of creative writing and stories told at the end of the day. Another lovely calm and purposeful day so special to Mont21.
On Shrove Tuesday, our community came together for the traditional pancake races in our wonderful gardens. We were delighted to share the fun with all our families including those from the Ukraine who had not previously experienced this somewhat unusual spectacle.
Whilst there has and continues to be extensive research on the benefits of Montessori v Traditional Mainstream Education, there can be little doubt that an holistic type education provides the very best foundation for the future.
Montessori: The world's most influential school? Tech geniuses, nation builders and famous artists have praised the benefits of a Montessori education – but does it hold up to scientific scrutiny?
Our UP class enjoyed a STEAM activity where they constructed models which were self-powered with either photovoltaics cells or hydraulics. Their next task is to design their own innovations using recycled materials. A great hands-on learning experience.
This morning we were proud to award badges to our first Eco Ambassadors as part of our sustainability focus for the school. We are looking forward to the green initiatives they will bring to our community.
We wish all our children, parents and staff a very Happy New Year. We look forward to a big year a head for Mont21.

A new school in Denmark has been recently awarded for its sustainable design credentials, a country that frequently leads the world in this area. Similar to our new campus, the internal learning environment connects with the outside to promote daily immersion with nature.
We are proud to celebrate the sporting achievements of two of our learners from our UP and LP2 classes. This was for coming 1st place in an international karate championship held in Italy and in golf at a local competition. Truly amazing!
Yesterday we honoured Remembrance Day with a special assembly and 2 minute silence to reflect on all those you had fallen in conflict around the world. This is particularly poignant this year with the war in Ukraine and the refugees we have welcomed into our community.
This year we will be holding a Christmas Club for all children aged 3 to 11 years. Our LP2 learners went to see the Roman ruins at Bolonia last week to enrich this term's topic. They enjoyed learning all about the community overlooking the Mediterranean and the many artefacts which they had learnt about in school. A long but great day out for the children and guides.
Today our UP learners become creative with clay with help from a specialist teacher. This was part of their cross-curricular😀 topic of Ancient Greece which they are studying this term. Some amazing creations were produced which will be fired and decorated at a later date. Many thanks to our lovely guest teacher and assistant.
The increasing importance of mental health in today’s world cannot be overstated. At mont21 all our learners benefit from yoga and mindfulness as part of the curriculum.
On Saturday it was our first camping event where our LP2 and UP students enjoyed sleeping under the stars. They had a truly wonderful time with their friends, playing ball games, eating BBQ food, singing songs and toasting marshmallows around the camp fire. We wish to thank our alumni students for being the tent guides and for our staff who kept everyone safe. This will be the first of many similar camps in the future.
On Thursday, the Children's House visited the Crestellina goat farm at Casares where our youngest learners had fun seeing the goats, collecting their milk and making cheese in the dairy to take home. A wonderful educational trip and one they are sure to remember.
Our trip to the Picasso museum in Malaga to support this term’s cross curricula topic was enjoyed by our LP1 learners and who once again, were complimented on their exemplary behaviour.

Education for the 21st Century
There is a growing awareness amongst educationalists, employers and parents that the way we educate children is no longer relevant for the 21st century.
Most educational systems around the world remain steadfast in the industrial era where the primary aim was for children to memorize facts and figures, to be controlled with bells, punishment and award and undergo regular testing so to obtain an academic qualification when they left school.
Whilst this has largely been successful for the past 150 years, the world has changed beyond all recognition in the last decade with the advent of the internet, increased use of personal computers, the founding of Google and the launch of social media platforms. Today there is increasing development and use of Artificial Intelligence, 5G technologies and ever sophisticated algorithms, robotics and the emergence of digital nomads.
As society, personal lifestyle and the workplace is now very different, it is essential that our children also learn and acquire a different set of skills beyond just academics if they are to become happy and successful citizens.
