Our Story
UCAM was established in the year 1996 as a private Catholic university. With more than 18,000 students, UCAM offers 24 prominent European official undergraduate degrees, 35 Masters programs, 17 PhD programs and other prestigious titles. Our teaching method is based on personalized attention to each student with reduced class sizes, and a personal tutor for each student. UCAM also offers a modern system of distance teaching.
UCAM has strong links with the working world through study plans which are continuously adapting to market demands, compulsory internships in public institutions or private enterprises as part of every program, and the provision of research programs in collaboration with significant regional, national and multinational companies.
UCAM has a special cultural and historical environment. Its main campus is on the site of the 17th century “Jerónimos Monastery” where the old building teams up with modern infrastructures and labs to provide UCAM students with excellent facilities to learn practical skills. Everything is aimed towards the benefit of the students, who are the core concern of the University.
UCAM is a Catholic institution in constant dialogue with the modern world for the purposes of evangelization and the improvement of society as a whole. This spirit is made visible through personalized lectures with a reduced number of students and personal tutors for each student. UCAM imparts its Christian values through some academic subjects, volunteering projects, meetings, congresses and seminars.
At a global level, UCAM is the first university with a campus in Cuba, where it has established itself in two locations and opened an International MBA. Both the Financial Times and TIME magazine have covered this significant subject.
The UCAM International Office in Jakarta, Indonesia, is the base of our headquarters in Asia from where the institution marks its presence in that continent.
One of UCAM´s main pathways for bringing about international education is our cooperation with other institutions. UCAM has around 150 renowned strategic partners, including leading colleges and universities in the world, such as UC Berkeley, Stanford, Notredamme, TEX Monterrey or Università degli Studi di Bologna. With these partners UCAM develops exchange programs for students, staff and professors, joint degrees or other collaboration possibilities such as the UCAM-FOM Doctoral School of Business Program.
UCAM´s infrastructure provides excellent facilities with a special focus on sports. It’s not by chance that UCAM is recognized as the University Of Sports in Spain. Proof of this is the fact that we are the only European university who has a professional Basketball team in the first division national league (ACB League Spain), as well as a Football Team in the 2nd B national division. UCAM competes on a professional level with 14 more teams.In the 2012 Spanish University Sports Competition, UCAM won 46 medals, being hailed the 2012 Champion competing in 21 disciplines with more than 2000 college athletes. UCAM has been represented in the Athens, Beijing and London Olympic Games.
