Eubrewnet
The aim of the Action is to establish a coherent network of European Brewer Spectrophotometer monitoring stations in order to harmonise operations and ...
... protocols to achieve consistency in quality control, quality assurance and coordinated operations.
The European Brewer Network (EUBREWNET) is a collaborative project aimed at standardizing ozone measurements across Europe. EUBREWNET has been supported by AEMET through TRAGSATEC since February 2019, with new staff positions to enhance the project's development. If you're interested in job opportunities within EUBREWNET, it would be beneficial to keep an eye on official announcement:

Now is running again.
Dear Colleagues
I’m writing to inform you about the current situation of the EUBREWNET service (Database, QA/QC system, Documentation System…). As some of you already know the EUBREWNET developer/system administrator Bentorey Hernandez has finished his contract on March 1st, 2016. Since that date, the system has been working without maintenance, with no system updates and minor support for the stations and new users.
Last week the system had several problems, with the main page down for several days. Fortunately, the database and the communication system were working and we could fix it. Now the main page is working again, but we think that the system may not be stable any more. The operating system is outdated and we don’t have the resources to update it. We know also issues on some stations data, we try to solve it during the next days.
We want to thank publicly Bentorey, Javier and many others for helping us during these days in trying to keep the system running, but as you can understand we cannot continue solely on their voluntary work.
Best Regards

Python interpreter, for the brewer’s control software.
This interpreter proposed by José Rodríguez as part of the activities of the ACTION COST ES1207 EUBREWNET, has as main objective to develop a python interpreter for GWBASIC, to allow run the brewer operative software in different operative systems, without the actual limitation of using it only in 32 bits windows versions. With an open access to the source code of the project, it is opened the door to a wide variety of modifications and customizations, that allows the development of new experimental routines and intercommunicate the brewer software with other applications.
Daniel Santana and Néstor Morales has developed this project with the collaboration of the RBCC-E members, Alberto Redondas, Sergio León, Virgilio Carreño, the Dr. Manuel Rodríguez Valido as the coordinator of the Industrial Engineering Smart sensor department of the La Laguna University (ULL), and with the collaboration of the Sieltec company.
The project took as a starting point an already existing GWBASIC interpreter, made by Rob Hagemans (PCBASIC), in which in a collaborative way the source code was modified to allow a proper communication with the Brewer spectrophotometers, using modern computers with 64bits processors.
The code of the resulting project, called PCBRW, is open source which allows a wide variety of research possibilities such as the possibility of intercepting the communications between the instrument and the interpreter, run python routines from the BASIC code, and interconnect the brewer software with other applications.
Quick instructions:
-Install python 2.7. (Or Anaconda package with python 2.7)
-Install the python needed extra libraries: pip install pysdl2 numpy pygame pyaudio pyserial
-Install git
From the git shell, clone recursively the repository into C:\ (This will create the repository folder C:\PCBRW), using the command:
git clone --recursive https://github.com/Danitegue/PCBRW
If the repository was already cloned in the past, one could also update it with the command “git pull”, from the C:\PCBRW directory.
Once the repo has been cloned, one could see some pre-configured pcbasic launchers in the root folder, for example for the instrument Brewer 185, and brewer software v4.10, the launcher would be “C:\PCBRW\Launcher185_410_pcbasic_brewer.bat”. One should make a copy of the proper launcher, and adapt it, with the paths of the brewer software, pcbasic and python.exe accordingly to the user installation folders, and the used COM ports. Then is only needed to run the launcher.
For more detailed instructions, please see the info in the PCBRW repository: https://github.com/Danitegue/PCBRW

Open position (3 years) in the field of UV measurements
Since 2006, ARPA Valle d'Aosta has continuously measured the global spectral UV irradiance in an Alpine context using a double-monochromator spectrometer. The system has so far provided a dataset among the most accurate at European level. With the aim at further improving the operating standards, the current instrumental system is being upgraded and an optical laboratory for irradiance calibrations installed at the site. The successful candidate will activate the new 1000W calibration system, draft the operating instructions in view of accreditation, check and improve the instrumental accuracy of the spectrometer, revise the uncertainty budget and analyse the multi-year dataset of spectral irradiances collected until now.

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
16th WMO-GAW BREWER OPERATOR COURSE – ASIA/PACIFIC
This is the announcement for the WMO-GAW Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer training school.
The event will be hosted by the Bureau of Meteorology in Sydney, Australia, from the 4th to the 9th of September 2017. The training school will focus on operational, scientific and technical issues of the Brewer instrument. The Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer is widely used throughout the world for ground based total ozone column measurements and can also provide solar spectral UV, Aerosol Optical Depth, NO2 and SO2 data, plus ozone vertical profiles from Umkehr measurements. The training course, which is mainly practical, will cover the topics of basic operation of the Brewer instrument and data reduction. As with previous Brewer workshops, you are strongly encouraged to bring your Brewer observations and history and submit oral or poster presentations about your work.
For those wishing to attend the training school, please complete the school registration form by 30th June 2017 being sure to indicate if you wish to apply for a support grant.
Financial support for attendees from developing countries may be available from the Vienna Convention Trust Fund and the Canadian Brewer Trust Fund via WMO. To apply please contact Geir Braathen [email protected] before 20th of March,
Registration, accommodation and travel information will also be available at the web page. We would appreciate it if you could distribute this notice to any of your colleagues who may be interested and who may not have received the notice via email.
Best Regards
