🇪🇸 TABARCA ISLAND

🏖️ The island Tabarca is located 4,97 miles ahead of the coast of Santa Pola, and 10 miles from the port of Alicante.

🌴It has a length of 1800 meters, a width of 400 meters Foto, and it is the only inhabited island in Community of Valencia: in 2009 there were exactly 73 inhabitants. Together with the tiny islands La Cantera, La Galera and La Nao it forms a small formt sie ein kleines archipelago.

🏖️ Torrevieja is situated close to two large salt water lagoons, "Laguna de la Mata" and "Laguna de Torrevieja", which cause a very particular and healthy microclimate.

It can be accessed easily by the beach promenade, where you will find many bars and restaurants. The beach is well equipped and also offers disabled access.

🌴 In the south of it there is the cape Cervera with the beach Playa de Cabo Cervera. The old guard tower "Torre del Moro" is today a look-out and offers a great panorama from the cape of Santa Pola in the north to the coast of Mar Menor in the south.

🏖️ Next we reach Las Calas, very quiet beaches which are favoured by divers.

🌴 Within the town there is the Playa de Los Locos, a very lively beach with a lot of facilities.

🏖️ The best known beach of Torrevieja is Playa del Cura, with numerous restaurants and beach bars ("Chiringuitos"). One regional speciality which you should not miss is "Pulpo Seco": squid is dried in the sun for several days, then cooked over an open fire and served with olive oil and lemon juice. It is typically accompanied by a "Paloma", aniseed liqueur with water and ice.

🌴 After this, there are still a couple of smaller beaches as well as natural basins in the following rock formations.

🏖️ Torrevieja disposes of two marinas which offer many facilities for water sports. At the fishing port you can book excursions to Tabarca Island.

🌴 Also the cultural offerings of Torrevieja are worth to be mentioned, with exhibitions, theater, concerts and festivals.

🏖️ Guardamar del Segura is located in a beautiful scenery, with sandy beaches surrounded by a vast pine forest Foto. The forest was planted in the beginning of the 20th century in order to halt the wandering dunes Foto.

🌴 Today these sandy beaches of Guardamar are a true paradise for tourists. The most lively are the beaches Centre and La Roqueta, while El Camp, Les Ortigues and Els Tossals are quieter and more natural.

🏖️ Els Tossals, also called Los Tusales, is in part a nudist beach. For its very good installations it received the award "Q for high touristic quality".

🌴 The mouth of the river Segura creates the beautiful natural setting "La Gola del Segura", which is located right at the sports and fishing port Guardamar, the so called "Marina de Las Dunas". Here you will find a plenty of facilities for many kinds of water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, or water skiing.

🏖️ Also for golfers Guardamar is an ideal destination: within just 20 kilometers there are no less than five golf courses. The closest is "La Marquesa" with 18 holes.

🌴 In the south of Guardamar there is the natural park "Laguna de La Mata", wetlands which are home to many species of water birds.

🏖️ In "Ribera del Río Segura" and in the park "Alfonso XIII" there are many bicycle lanes and hiking trails which invite us to do a bit of sports.

🌴 For the historically interested we would like to mention the archaeological findings of "La Rábita Califal" and "La Factoría Fenicia" ("Phoenician factory") and recommend a visit to the Archaeological, Ethnological and Paleontological Museum. Here you can see many exhibits of the old-iberian and phoenician civilizations, which have been found around Guardamar. Of the most famous find, the statue "Dama de Cabezo Lucero", only a copy can be seen as the original is today in the museum of Alicante.

🏖️ At the port of Guardamar you can book an excursion by ship to the island Tabarca, without any doubt a very attractive destination.

🇪🇸SANTA POLA (Costa Blanca, Spain)

🏖️ Santa Pola is located inbetween two natural parks, Salinas de Santa Pola and Sierra y Cabo de Santa Pola and disposes of beaches with a total length of 13 kilometers.

🌴 In the east there are small coves with fine sand and crystal clear water, in the west wide and flat sandy beaches.

🏖️ The sandy beaches Playa Tamarit, Playa Lisa, Gran Playa, Playa Levante, Calas Santiago Bernabeu and Playa Varadero offer modern facilities (toilets, disabled access, etc.), you will find beach bars, the so called "chiringuitos", and can rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and often surf boards.

🌴The only nudist beach of Santa Pola is Playa Tamarit, but also the nice sandy beach Playa del Carabassi, which belongs to the municipality of Elche, is not far away.

🏖️ Driving from Santa Pola in southern direction to Guardamar del Segura, you will find a totally desert part of the coast, with two lonely sandy beaches which can only be accessed by foot: El Pinet and La Gola. The port of Santa Pola has a very old tradition, and is today one of the most important fishing ports on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. It is very interesting to watch the auction of the fish at the near fish market, the Lonja.

🌴 Close to Santa Pola there are the ruins of Portus Illicitanus. Here you can see the remains of an old iberian settlement from 4th century BC. Later it became a Roman town, and the remains of a salt fish manufactury, several shops, ware houses, residential buildings and of a luxury villa with beautiful mosaics, the so called "Casa Romana del Palmeral" are conserved.

🏖️ Eight kilometers in front of Santa Pola there is the island Tabarca, which can be accessed by ship. It is well known for its splendid beaches and its beautiful underwater world.

🌴 Interesting buildings in the village are the old fortress Castillo-Fortaleza de Santa Pola, from 16th century, and the watch towers from the same period: Torre del Tamarit, Escaletes and Atalayola.

🏖️ Also worth a visit is the Palm Park, which invites to have a stroll in beautiful environment. Another interesting option is camel riding which is offered here too.
