Last week VISION R&D has participated in the divulgative sessions of the "Science Week" organized by IOBA
We are pleased to announce the incorporation of Dr. Cristina Andrés Iglesias to the staff of VISION R&D, whose contract is co-financed by the Torres Quevedo grant awarded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency (10.13039/501100011033).
She is an engineering, associate professor in the organic chemistry department of the University of Valladolid and principal researcher in safety of Medical Devices. She is expert in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), in chemical analysis of toxic compounds in medical devices and in the development of new medical devices. Also, she is Technical Expert of ISO 16672: ophthalmic implants, ocular endotamponades.
Congratulations and Welcome!
👁️ Are you looking for experimental models of ocular diseases? 👁️
IOBA and VISION R&D offer experimental models of ocular diseases to the industry or scientific groups. These models are supported by scientific publications and years of experience. Importantly, the studies are carried out under quality standards (ISO 9001 and Good Laboratory Practice).
Preclinical Platform – Vision R&D State of the art solutions
The Ocular Surface Group of the IOBA UVa has recently published a prospective study conducted at the Controlled Environment Laboratory (CELab). The prophylactic effect of LipiFlow treatment was assessed in Meibomian gland dysfunction patients exposed to an adverse controlled environment. The results reveal that a single session of LipiFlow treatment can improve objective and subjective outcomes of the lacrimal functional unit in Meibomian gland dysfunction patients assessed under controlled environmental conditions. Moreover, the benefits of the therapy are sustained for at least one-year post-treatment.
Adverse environmental conditions (such as low humidity, air flows, temperature variations…) are very common in our daily life. This study supports the usefulness of the CELab to recreate these adverse environments to test the efficacy of a therapy.

Congratulations to all the authors!
👁 Do you know CELab?
The Controlled Environment Laboratory (CELab) is a unique facility composed of an exposure chamber, an evaluation chamber, and all the experience of the Institute of Applied Ophthalmobiology (IOBA) of the University of Valladolid. CELab offers cutting edge technology to carry out high quality research and customized clinical trials.
The CELab benefits are:
1. More reliable diagnostic test values that reduce the number of subjects necessary to obtain statistically significant results.
2. By running a large amount of evaluation tests and biomarkers, the efficacy of the potential therapeutic candidate is widely defined.
3. The most valid end-points can be selected for further multicenter clinical trials, eliminated those that showed no signal.
4. Ability to obtain a “yes/no” answer before running a large sample of patients for multicenter clinical trials with registration purposes.
5. Increases speed and saves economical resources in drug development, registration, and commercialization programs.
👁 Do you know VISION R&D?
We are focused into those four lines of business. We want to emphasize that we are delighted to help researchers from any University, Hospital or group, from anywhere in the world, to develop their projects. We put all our experience at their service. And the possibilities of collaborating are multiple.
