The young girls are given a beaded necklace by their fathers. On special days, occasions or ceremonies, the girls receive more necklaces. The more necklaces, the better, and when they are married, they also receive more strands of these wooden, glass, or plastic beads. Etiyopya’nın güneyinde yaşayan Dassanech kabilesini görmeye gittiğimde bir hayli ilginç yolculuklar yaşamıştım. Önce Kenya sınırına çok yakın olan Turmi şehrinden Omo Rate adlı bölgeye 2 saatlik bir yolculuk yapmış sonrasında ise timsahlar ile dolu nehirde kanolar ile karşıya geçmiştim. Yana kaydırdığınızda nehirin görüntülerini göreceksiniz. O nehir burada ki insanların her şeyi. Balık tutup karınlarını orada doyuruyor ve içme sularını bu nehirden alıyorlar. Görmeye geldiğim Dassanech halkının şöyle bir özelliği var. Bu halk bizlerin çöpe attığı ürünleri vücutlarında sergilemeyi çok seviyorlar. Mesela bir fotoğrafta bir çocuğun boynunda saat kordonu göreceksiniz. İnsanların çöpe attıkları şeyler burada ki halkın hazinesi gibi değil mi? Bir başka göreceğiniz aksesuarda boyunlarında ve kollarında bulunan kolyeler ve bilezikler. Bu kabile dans etmeyi çok seviyor ve kendilerine dansın çocukları diyorlar! Dans ettikçe ne kadar çok ses çıkarsa o kadar çok mutlu oluyorlar. O yüzden vücutlarına bu tarz şeylerde takıyorlar. Dassanech kabilesi gördüğüm en yoksul ama en mutlu kabilelerden oldu. The Bull Jumping Ceremony(Ukuli Bulla) is a rite of passage into manhood for a young Hamer man and there are several stages of the initiation process. Once his family has announced a jump date, he must act as an ukule (donkey) to the elders and assume any task that is asked of him. After successfully jumping, the young man becomes a charkale, accompanying other triumphant jumpers in the calming of the bulls at other ceremonies.
