Last Friday, 5 July, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna visited Latvia, and alongside Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, toured Patria’s new armoured vehicle production facility in Valmiera. 🤝🎉

Uģis Romanovs, Managing Director of Patria Latvia and Defence Partnership Latvia, guided the guests through the facility where Patria 6x6 vehicles are being produced and explained about the production process and future development plans.

“The Patria project is an excellent example of successful European military-industrial cooperation that meets Allied collective security needs. This partnership is aligned with Latvia’s key priorities in terms of strengthening national security and contributing to industrial growth and technological development. It’s time to celebrate! 🌟 Today, on 17 June 2024 at Eurosatory in Paris, All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) concept vehicle developed within FAMOUS programme was revealed in a celebratory occasion arranged in Patria’s stand.

The vehicle solution that is being developed is a high-performance platform intended for all geographical environments, including extreme climates. 🌐 It is expected to have excellent tactical and operational mobility. Attention is also being paid to its survivability, costs and modularity.🛡️

“We are very proud to reveal this Tracked Armoured Personnel Carrier concept vehicle generated with the support of FAMOUS programme. We have now proceeded to the concept testing stage and the performance of the future solution can be tested in practice”, says Mikko Karppinen, Senior Vice President, Protected Mobility and Defence Systems of Patria.

We are excited to announce that Patria has signed a bill of sale for the acquisition of Nordic Drones, a leading drone pilot trainer and manufacturer of drones designed for professional use. 🤝

Nordic Drones has been developing unmanned drone systems for over ten years. The company has achieved a significant position as a partner for Nordic security authorities. 🇫🇮

This acquisition will strengthen Patria’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) offering and benefit our mutual and new customers in Finland and internationally, across all operating environments. 🌐🚁

Hot off the press - Patria has just signed a contract with the Finnish Defence Forces Logistic Command for the Squadron 2020 program’s project support expert services. These services include project management, engineering, and other expertise support.

Patria is a strategic partner of Finnish Defence Forces and has a long history in Finnish Navy vessels´ Mid-Life Upgrade projects. Construction of the Pohjanmaa Class corvettes began in 2023, and the Squadron 2020 program is set to be completed by 2029.

Breaking F135 engine news! 🚀 We’re proud to announce that Patria and Pratt & Whitney have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to produce F135 engines within Finland’s F-35 industrial participation programme. 🛩️

This agreement will bring new capabilities and employment opportunities to Finland. The needed assembly and maintenance lines will be built in Linnavuori, Nokia, in Finland. The capabilities delivered by these projects will contribute to the security of supply for the defence of Finland and its NATO allies, while also expanding the F135 engine’s sustainment network. 🇫🇮 🌐

Great news to kick-start this May – Germany joins the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme’s research and development agreement, based on Patria 6x6. Warm welcome, Germany! 🇩🇪 🇫🇮 🇱🇻 🇸🇪

With the agreement, Germany receives access to the product development packages developed in the programme and a position to co-define the requirements for future mission variants.

Patria 6x6 deliveries are ongoing to Latvia, Finland and Sweden, and vehicles are in operational use. Germany has proceeded to the R&D agreement phase in the programme which is the final leg before the procurement phase of Patria 6x6 vehicles.

🎉 Celebrating a Milestone in Finnish Aviation History! 🇫🇮

Finland’s first F/A-18 Hornet, HN-401 ‘Fleet Leader,’ has completed its final flight on April 26. Air Force Commander Juha-Pekka Keränen piloted HN-401 to Patria’s Halli site, where it officially retired from service. As the first Hornet assembled in Finland, HN-401 has accumulated over 4,500 flight hours, enabling crucial structural analysis. Patria’s expertise has supported the Finnish Air Force’s F/A-18 fleet for nearly 30 years. ✈️

As a strategic partner to the Finnish Defence Forces, Patria’s strong support will naturally continue to maintain the remaining Hornet fleet’s operational capability until the early 2030s, as well as supporting the new fighter fleet during the F-35 era. 🤝

Exciting news! Finland is set to bolster its military capabilities with the purchase of heavy Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles. 🇫🇮 

The Finnish Defence Forces have initiated the serial procurement of these robust vehicles, designed to provide enhanced protection and firepower as part of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme. 🌐

The first order includes a pre-series vehicle and 20 Kongsberg remote weapon stations, with an option for an additional 18 vehicles. This acquisition ensures our troops are well-equipped for various missions, including
crisis management tasks. The heavy armoured Patria 6x6 stands out with its superior protection rate and integrated remote weapon systems, a testament to international R&D collaboration. 🤝

Finland, along with Latvia, Sweden, and Germany, is part of CAVS programme that has seen around 700 vehicles ordered since 2020. The programme’s success is sparking interest globally. 🌍

We had the great honor to host Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Evika Silina and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia Andris Spruds during Latvian National Defence Industry Day, where also modular and high-performance Patria 6x6 vehicle was showcased.

Patria 6x6 armoured vehicle is the selected vehicle in the multinational CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle System) programme, participated already by Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Germany.

Our aim is to make Patria’s entire operating model as efficient and lean as possible to meet the growing demand and secure the deliveries of current and new orders.”

We are thrilled to announce that Mikko Leino has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Operations and a member of the Patria Group Management Team. He will join the Patria team on April 8, 2024. Patria’s largest unit, Operations, is responsible for Patria’s production and supply chains.

Mikko Leino brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the leadership of the Operations unit, having previously served in several demanding Executive positions in supply chain management, most recently at BMH Technology Oy. Prior to this, Mikko Leino has gained extensive experience in Evac Group, Mint of Finland (Suomen Rahapaja), Vaasan Group, Suunto and Nokia.

Sky-high F-35 programme news! 🛩️ Patria and Lockheed Martin signed a second Memorandum of Agreement for the production and delivery of F-35 landing gear doors for the F-35 global fleet. 🌍

The landing gear doors will be manufactured at Patria’s Halli facility in Jämsä, Finland. The long-term agreement will provide decades of high technology manufacturing work and enable Finnish industry to prepare for future operational and sustainment opportunities. 🇫🇮

It’s all about Nordic defence cooperation! 🇫🇮🇸🇪🇳🇴🤝 Patria and Kongsberg have agreed to cooperate on weapon station deliveries to Sweden and Finland within the CAVS programme.

Deliveries of the PROTECTOR remote weapon stations to over 300 Patria 6x6 vehicles will begin in 2025 and continue into the 2030s. This agreement also strengthens industry cooperation in support of NATO’s vision for interchangeability of equipment and security of supply. 🌍

Greetings from Latvia! 🇱🇻 This year, a new Patria 6x6 production line will begin operations in Latvia, which is a significant area of operations for Patria. Last week, we had the honor of hosting the esteemed Swedish Home Guard Commander Major General Laura Swaan Wrede and Latvian National Guard Commander Brigadier General Kaspars Pudans at our workshop. 🤝 We showcased our dedication to excellence in building and maintaining Patria 6x6 military vehicles. ✨

News from Sweden! 🇸🇪 Patria has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Procurement Agency to deliver 321 six-wheeled armoured vehicles, as part of joint European CAVS programme. These state-of-the-art vehicles offer the latest technology and protection for up to 12 crew members. This contract is one of the largest ever in Sweden for Patria and marks an important step in Finnish-Swedish cooperation. 🤝

Patria had the honor to host a unique Women’s Networking event, with a focus on advancing female participation in the defence and aerospace industry as well as discussing the changes in the defence and security environment today.

The morning started with a joint breakfast followed by an interactive panel discussion led by a board of high-profile industry experts and thought leaders: Patria’s Chief HR Officer Leena Orpo, Secretary General at the Association of Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries Tuija Karanko, Director of Unit, Community and Environmental Unit at Ministry of Defence Sara Kajander, and Nordics Business Development Manager at Lockheed Martin Alicia Viktoria Jensen.

Some of the key takeaways from today’s discussion:

✨ Security is a joint goal that doesn’t regard gender. Thus, leaders in the industry, regardless of gender, must have the ability to see the industry as a security-critical and supply-critical function.

✨ Operating in a business environment with current geopolitical circumstances requires resilience and durability. As a leader, you also need to learn how to nurture and strengthen these skills in your people in the company.

✨ Having women in the defense industry is, above all, a matter of diversity. Women bring unique perspectives and skills to the table, and their inclusion can improve the overall effectiveness of defence organizations. As in any tech company, diversity is required to make a better workplace and operations.
