It was a Fiji Day celebrated with a difference with this group of ladies from our community.
Instead of putting on their Fiji Day bula dress to celebrate the various traditional functions often associated with Fiji Day, they changed and headed for the mangroves to take part in a worthy activity related to the care and protection of our environment.
They're part of a program called JOBS FOR NATURE which was launched by the Ministry of Environment in the year 2021. It is an inaugural conservation initiative that will integrate and collaborate the ecosystem restoration needs with the genuine needs of our local communities.
The Jobs for Nature Rehabilitation Program focuses on the Protection, Restoration and Rehabilitation of the natural environment.
The group was led by the leader of the Gusunituba Women's Club Kinisimere Ratu Qera. It was a daunting task but it was all for a worthy cause and all categories of rubbish were collected today.
