The Inspiring Journey of Tangaroa Fiti: A Harmonious Triumph Over Adversity
Born on January 7, 1983, in the stunning island nation of Kiribati, Tangaroa Fiti’s life is a remarkable testament to resilience, passion, and the transformative power of music. Visually impaired from birth, Tangaroa has not only overcome challenges but has emerged as a beacon of hope and inspiration for many. His journey is a celebration of the spirit of inclusivity and the belief that everyone can contribute their unique gifts to the world.

Early Musical Influences
Tangaroa's love for music took root at an early age. He attended the Kiribati Special School, where he learned to navigate his environment with determination. It was during this formative time that his uncles, talented musicians themselves, recognized his potential and began teaching him to play the guitar, keyboard, and drums. By the time he was just 10 years old, Tangaroa was already captivating audiences on stage, showcasing not only his musical talent but also his extraordinary dedication.

A Rising Star
In 2008, during a performance that highlighted his remarkable abilities, Tangaroa caught the attention of the Blind Association of Australia. Recognizing his potential, they arranged for him to perform at the iconic Sydney Opera House—a dream opportunity that would inspire him and many others. This performance not only marked a significant milestone in his career but also reinforced his belief in the power of music to transcend barriers.

After returning to Kiribati, Tangaroa’s musical journey continued as he was invited to perform in New Zealand for family members, further expanding his reach and influence.

Finding a Home in Fiji
In 2009, Tangaroa moved to Fiji, where his exceptional keyboard skills quickly gained recognition. He joined Danny Costello's band at the Northern Club in Lautoka, establishing himself as one of the top keyboard players in the region. His versatility and passion for music led him to collaborate with other artists, including Ofa Ali, enriching the vibrant Fijian music scene.

Tangaroa’s journey took him back to Australia in 2010, invited once again by the Kiribati Blind Association to perform in Darwin. It was during this trip that he embraced a new challenge—learning to play the violin, demonstrating his commitment to continuous growth as a musician.

A Member of New Vision of Fiji
Tangaroa’s musical journey reached another milestone as he proudly became a member of New Vision of Fiji, a collective that promotes inclusivity and representation for individuals with disabilities. As one of the main artists at the Inaugural Inclusive Concert, he not only showcased his extraordinary talent but also inspired others to embrace their unique gifts. His presence on stage served as a powerful reminder that everyone deserves a platform to share their voice and passion.

A Legacy of Faith and Community
Today, Tangaroa is not only celebrated for his musical prowess but also for his unwavering commitment to his faith. He actively plays in church, drawing strength and inspiration from his spiritual community. His journey has been deeply influenced by the late Father Ipolito Bakaua, who played a pivotal role in forming the Three Hearts Band alongside Tangaroa's sister, Tiboora Fiti. Together, they continue to share their music, touching lives and spreading joy wherever they perform.

A Source of Inspiration
Tangaroa Fiti's story is a powerful reminder that challenges do not define us; instead, it is our response to those challenges that shapes our destiny. His journey inspires countless individuals, showing that with passion, determination, and a supportive community, we can overcome any obstacle.

As we celebrate Tangaroa’s achievements, let us be inspired to embrace our own passions and to uplift those around us. His life serves as a beautiful testament to the belief that music can unite us, heal us, and empower us all. In a world where differences often divide us, Tangaroa Fiti stands as a harmonious bridge, reminding us that every voice matters and that together, we can create a symphony of hope and resilience.

The Inspiring Journey of Vetaia Seniualekaleka: A Musical Force in Fiji
In the vibrant landscape of Fijian music, one name stands out as a beacon of inspiration and resilience: Vetaia Seniualekaleka, affectionately known as Tuks. Born on April 26, 1977, at CWM Hospital in Suva, Fiji, Vetaia's journey is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the transformative influence of music.

Early Beginnings
Vetaia’s love for music blossomed during his primary school years. It was here that his father first introduced him to the guitar, sparking a lifelong passion. With simple open chords as his foundation, Vetaia’s curiosity ignited further when his cousin, Pate Madigibuli, guided him in playing hymns at church. These early experiences laid the groundwork for what would become a remarkable musical career.

Mentorship and Growth
Vetaia’s journey was not without guidance. He credits several key mentors for shaping his skills and nurturing his talent. Notable figures like Master Kasiano Ramoala, Master Jim Dautei, and Master Filimoni Kabu played pivotal roles in his musical education, providing him with the tools to hone his craft. At just 17, Vetaia joined renowned musicians such as Arthur Philitoga, Filipe Racule Jnr, and Filipe Waka at the Tradewinds Hotel, where he refined his guitar techniques and learned the nuances of performance.

His involvement with the New Vision of Fiji opened new doors, allowing him to perform regularly and collaborate with fellow musicians. Through these connections, Vetaia not only grew as an artist but also built a community that would support and uplift him throughout his career.

A Professional Legacy
With over 30 years of professional experience, Vetaia is a respected guitarist and lead player in Fiji's music scene. He has graced stages across the country, performing at nightclubs, resorts, and events, often alongside illustrious artists like Georgina, Ledua, Seru Serevi, and Late Danny Costello, who also contributed to his vocal training. Today, as a member of the Three Hearts Band, Vetaia continues to make waves, collaborating with fellow visually challenged musician Tangaroa Fiti.

Philosophy and Impact
Vetaia's journey is underpinned by a profound personal philosophy: the importance of financial stability and continuous growth. He understands the challenges faced by aspiring musicians and encourages them to dedicate themselves to practice and perseverance. "Music is a gift that can provide not just joy, but a sustainable livelihood," he often shares, inspiring young artists to harness their talent and pursue their dreams.

A Message of Hope
Vetaia Seniualekaleka's story is more than just a narrative of musical achievement; it is a celebration of resilience, community, and the indomitable human spirit. His journey from a young boy captivated by the sounds of the guitar to a celebrated musician serves as an inspiration to all, particularly those who face their own challenges.

As he continues to share his gift with the world, Vetaia reminds us that music transcends barriers and can unite people from all walks of life. His story encourages us to embrace our passions, seek mentorship, and never give up on our dreams.

For those who wish to connect with this remarkable artist, Vetaia can be reached at 2544771 or via email at [email protected]. Whether through a performance or a conversation, Vetaia’s journey is a reminder that the power of music can indeed change lives.

"We Empower" our successful members story.

Keres Tamani: A Journey of Resilience and Empowerment
Keres Tamani, affectionately known as Kessy, embodies the spirit of resilience and determination. Despite facing the challenges of disability, she has carved out a path as a farmer, canteen owner, and community leader, all while raising three children as a dedicated housewife. Kessy's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of community support.

From Struggles to Success
Kessy’s story began with humble roots. Living at the grassroots level, she faced significant hurdles in providing for her family. “I struggled to put food on the table,” she recalls. The weight of poverty loomed large, yet Kessy was determined to change her family's circumstances. She started small, selling cassava, and with the meager earnings, she took a bold step forward by launching her own canteen.

This venture was not just about financial survival; it was about creating a future for her children and breaking free from the cycle of poverty. With support from Femlink Pacific and UN Women, Kessy gained the resources and confidence to develop her business further. “They helped me move my canteen forward,” she shares, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships in her journey.

A Commitment to Community
Kessy's efforts extend beyond her canteen. As a leader within Femlink Pacific and the President of the New Vision of Fiji’s Sigatoka branch, she is committed to uplifting her community. Her involvement in these organizations reflects her dedication to advocating for the rights and needs of rural women. Kessy is also an active member of the District Council of Social Services (DCOSS) in Sigatoka, where she collaborates with others to address local issues.

One of Kessy's proudest achievements is the Bright Morning Star Project, which aims to renovate the seawall at Yadua Village. This initiative is critical not only for the community's infrastructure but also for enhancing the safety and resilience of the village against environmental challenges. However, despite the initial funding of $10,000 from UN Women, the project remains incomplete due to ongoing funding challenges. Kessy is steadfast in her mission to see this seawall completed, reaching out for support from the government and other NGOs to realize this vision.

Gratitude and Hope
Today, Kessy expresses her deep gratitude to New Vision of Fiji for their support in providing stationery and school bags for children in her community. “I am very thankful for their help,” she states, highlighting the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. Kessy understands that empowering the next generation is key to fostering a brighter future.

Kessy’s journey is one of inspiring hope and resilience. She exemplifies the strength of women who strive to create better lives for themselves and their families, even in the face of adversity. Her story is a reminder that with support, determination, and community collaboration, it is possible to rise above challenges and inspire change.

As Kessy continues to push forward, she invites others to join her in her mission. “Together, we can make a difference,” she asserts, embodying the spirit of collective empowerment. Her unwavering commitment to her family and community is a beacon of hope for many, proving that change is indeed possible, one step at a time.

White Cane Day Message From New Vision of Fiji.

Happy White Cane Day!

Today, we come together to celebrate the strength, resilience, and spirit of all individuals who are visually impaired or have low vision. The white cane is not just a tool; it represents independence, mobility, and empowerment. It is the eye and life of every person who uses it.

As we observe this important day, let us remember the significance of the white cane. It deserves our utmost respect and understanding. When you see someone with a white cane, please acknowledge their journey and the courage it takes to navigate the world. No person with visual impairments should be left behind; every individual has the right to thrive and contribute to our society.

We must strive for a future where inclusive education and employment opportunities are available for everyone, regardless of their visual ability. Together, we can break down barriers and create a world where all individuals can achieve their dreams.

Let’s advocate for respect, inclusion, and support for all. Together, we can make a difference.

Wishing you all a joyous and inspiring White Cane Day!

PRESS STATEMENT

New Vision of Fiji: Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Disadvantaged Communities through Inclusive Initiatives

New Vision of Fiji (NVF) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting persons with disabilities, children with disabilities, the elderly, and disadvantaged communities across Fiji. With over 2,000 registered members, NVF focuses on providing essential services to rural communities, often neglected due to a lack of access and support. Thanks to funding from the Canadian government, NVF has been able to reach the most remote areas of Fiji, registering individuals in need and offering them critical support services aimed at improving their lives.

In 2024, NVF assisted 300 children with their "Back to School" campaign, providing essential school supplies, including books, bags, stationery, uniforms, and sandals. Following the success of this initiative, NVF has proudly launched its 2025 Back to School Campaign, continuing its mission to support the children it helped last year. The organization also welcomes donations from corporates, groups, or individuals looking to contribute to this worthy cause.

As part of its 2024–2026 goals, NVF is prioritizing the empowerment of rural women and youths, particularly those with disabilities and single mothers. In a groundbreaking partnership with Bakels Fiji, NVF has launched the Bake and Gain Economic Empowerment Program, designed to help participants establish small businesses for self-sustainability. The program has already trained 20 women from Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva, who underwent training in financial literacy, marketing, and basic business skills. Each participant has been given the target of earning $1,000 within three months, which will be reinvested into their businesses for further development.

Mr. Rajnel Prasad, CEO of NVF, expressed his excitement about the program, stating: “This project has been in the pipeline for some time, but due to limited funding and support, it took a while to get off the ground. We are thrilled to have Bakels Fiji as a partner, helping us make this dream a reality. We hope more corporates will contribute to such initiatives, which directly benefit the community and add value to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals.” He also called on the Government and the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection to join in this effort, given their strong advocacy for women’s empowerment.

The Bake and Gain Program will culminate in January 2025 with an event where participants will showcase their business success, including the highest profits achieved. NVF will assist with marketing and branding through social media and will host weekend markets to boost participants' revenue. Mr. Prasad added, “We aim to extend this program to maritime islands and the Northern Division, providing even more opportunities for rural women.”

Bakels Fiji, as the primary supporter, has provided the initial baking materials for the program. Miss Kessy Tami, NVF community support leader in the Nadroga division, expressed her gratitude, stating: “We are thankful to NVF and Bakels for the starter packs. This initiative will greatly benefit grassroots people living in poverty, giving them a chance to improve their livelihoods.”

Ms. Savela, a participant from Yadua Village in Nadroga, also shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled to restart my baking business after it closed a few years ago due to lack of support. Thanks to NVF, I now have the resources I need to succeed.”

The Bakels Group, founded in 1904 by brothers Hendrik A. and Bernardus J. Bakels in Amsterdam, has grown into a global entity with nearly 40 companies operating across five continents. Its continued success is driven by innovation, investment, and a commitment to training bakery skills through specialized centers around the world.

In addition to the Bake and Gain program, NVF continues to spearhead other initiatives for the betterment of its members. The organization recently launched the Inclusive Employment Program, which has successfully placed individuals with disabilities in factories and the hospitality industry. NVF is also proud of its Inclusive Concerts, which have provided a platform for members with disabilities to showcase their talents. These concerts, staged in both Suva and Lautoka, have opened doors for performers to be booked for private functions and resort performances during the upcoming festive season.

Looking ahead, NVF is excited to introduce more innovative programs that will uplift and empower persons with disabilities, rural women, and disadvantaged communities across Fiji. Mr. Prasad concluded, “Our vision is to create sustainable solutions that improve the lives of those in need. We will continue to advocate for inclusive opportunities and economic empowerment for all.”
