Yesterday, during Women In Construction Week, was an AMAZING DAY! The lead up to and the inaugural WICAT Fiji Lunch & Learn event was beyond successful. The speakers, attendee’s, and organizers are immensely grateful to all the women past and present, that have paved the way for progress in this industry.

A wide spectrum of topics surrounding women in the construction and trade industry were discussed. Most highlighted were the importance of education and continual upskilling, networking and putting ourselves out there to be seen and heard, and ofcourse collaborating.

Special acknowledgment went to our supportive male counterparts, the husbands and partners at home as well as the employers who have encouraged, elevated and recommended us women for the traditionally male centric professions we are in.

It’s exciting times for women in this industry as we now more than ever have greater access to education, scholarships and funding to enter and grow our skill sets in the trade industries.

“We [Women] have the ability to multitask, process all the details and really execute. I’m biased, but I think female project managers are so good at that and so good at being able to balance all the personalities that might be in the room between the owner, architect and superintendent from the field. There’s plenty of room at the table for more female project managers,” Tankersley said.
