The Anti-Money Laundering (AML) refers to the laws, regulations, and procedures designed to prevent criminals from disguising illegally obtained funds as legitimate income.

On June 19, 2024, the 6th AML Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/1640), the AML Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1624), and the AMLA Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1620) were published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The AML Package aims to reform the EU's AML/CFT regime, standardize AML/CFT obligations and measures, strengthen the supervisory system, and extend due diligence and reporting requirements to new categories, including traders of luxury goods.

🇬🇧 The UK Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) has upheld the Employment Tribunal’s decision that it had jurisdiction to hear the unfair dismissal claim brought by an employee who worked on a superyacht which had not entered UK waters.

⚓ This case is relevant for employers who may be unclear whether a British tribunal would have jurisdiction to hear unfair dismissal claims from their seafarer employees. If seafarers have such jurisdiction, employers will need to ensure British law and procedure are followed when dismissing seafarers whose base is in the UK.

The MCA updated MIN 690, the guidance on NOEs and the Oral Examination Process. Now also Master (code vessels less than 200 GT)/Officer of the Watch (yachts less than 500 GT) exams are split into Part A (online computer-based proctored examination) and Part B (online face-to-face oral examination).
