Mariam Taji, a current SMIB student from France, tells us about how her experience at and the has led her to an opportunity in Sanofi's strategy department.

• Tell us about yourself.
I am Mariam TAJI from France. As a PharmD candidate, I joined the Master SMIB during my last year of pharmaceutical studies. Prior to ESSEC, I pursued my academic career in Eastern France and the Czech Republic, following an Erasmus Program. Those years helped me build a solid medical background and develop an expertise within the Pharmaceutical Industry. Through several internships, I first developed an interest towards Strategic Consulting, and subsequently Portfolio Strategy, thanks to invested healthcare professionals and mentors.
My experience at Kephren, part of a consulting firm specializing in Immuno-Oncology, solidified my professional aspirations and led me towards a strategy-oriented Master’s program. As part of my end-of-study internship, I’ve had the opportunity to join Sanofi’s strategy department.
• What are your plans after the ?
ESSEC has brought me a broader perspective in my professional career, since I’ve had the opportunity to learn about multiple Business specializations.
As for my internship, I aim to work for 6 months in Portfolio Decision Resources, in charge of a Digital Transformation project. This internship is the perfect balance between my Business degree and my Pharmaceutical background since Portfolio Strategy involves working closely with R&D on assets covering the entire pipeline.
The next step is to validate my PharmD degree with a thesis, focusing on the Portfolio Strategy in big pharma companies so as to deep-dive into the decision-making process. I also want to focus on this subject for my ESSEC internship report to build an expertise in Portfolio Strategy and better anticipate my future junior positions in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Lastly, for my future job, I’m seeking a Strategy Consulting position within a Life Sciences/Pharma Practice. This would enable me to work on a variety of projects in the Pharmaceutical Industry and therefore to acquire a complete set of hard and soft skills.
• Any advice for future SMIB candidates?

• Tell us about yourself.
My name is Radhika Wadhawan, and I come from India. I was born and brought up in the capital of India, New Delhi and I was exposed to the best educational resources. As a child, ever since my father got a computer at home, I dreamt of becoming a computer engineer, and years later I pushed myself to become one. I graduated from a well-recognized University in India and worked as a software engineer soon after for almost 3 years in an American MNC. However, I never felt satisfied as a desk-bound job was never my thing. During my bachelor’s degree, I co-founded a startup and that illuminated my entrepreneurial spirit and leadership abilities which could not be justified by a “behind-the-scene” job. Henceforth, I chose ESSEC to get a formal education in Business and management and upskill my abilities so that I could work in an international market and years later start my own venture.
• Why did you choose the SMIB Program?
I chose the ESSEC SMIB because this program is well-tailored for students from diverse backgrounds. This not only helps students get exposure to diversity but also helps in the overall improvement in terms of team spirit and respect to diverse backgrounds and cultures. The course structure also includes practical cases which is a necessity at a Master’s stage in one’s career.
• What are your plans after ?
I have differentiated my goals into short-term and long-term goals.
Soon after SMIB, I wish to work for a consulting firm in France so as to improve my strategy skills and understand the working of a French business. With perseverance, hard work, and a never-give-up attitude, I would push myself to be an asset to an organization. After gaining a few years of experience, I would like to start my own venture in the international market where I could amalgamate my technical and managerial skills.
• Any advice for future SMIB candidates?
It’s your journey and your decision to be here, make the most out of it!

Looking back at my time in the SMIB program, it is now clear that our experiences working within a diverse group as well as our frequent interactions with industry experts have allowed us to develop the skills that we need to lead companies into a future focused on digital technology.
As a Data Scientist, I chose the Managing Digital Transformation and Innovation (MDTI) Track in order to complement my technical skills with additional competencies in Project Management. Through the SMIB, we have been able to not only develop these skills in an applied setting, but also expand our network to include seasoned professionals working closely with technology.
Through the rigorous courses offered by the MDTI track as well as the digital transformation initiative we worked on with our digital consulting partner Maestis, we have been able to strengthen skills that we believe will make a large impact in our career down the line.
I would like thank the SMIB administration as well as our professors for giving us the means to achieve our goals and for preparing us for the road ahead in our journey as leaders in tech.

I am Eunice Chen, a 23 year old student from Taiwan pursuing my master degree in France. Before joining the Master SMIB at ESSEC, I studied Economics as my major in university to help me understand better how our society works and how individuals and organizations make their decisions. After completing my studies, I joined a local real estate firm as a business developer where I worked with enterprises from different parts of the world. Especially in the Corporate Strategy track, we are constantly being challenged to examine business events with highly critical perspectives and to apply theories in real practice through competitions and association missions.
• What are your plans after the ?
As I am passionate about fashion & beauty, I would love to start my career in this field by finding an internship in a marketing/product manager position to put my studies into practice. The many lectures, corporate talks and seminars we had with different enterprises and professionals in ESSEC inspired and motivated me a lot to be bold and to bring good impact to our world. With the amazing ESSEC network, I got to exchange ideas and seek advice from alumni to gain more insights in my target industry and that’s how I experience again the spirit of ESSEC, to always support one another and to reach excellence together.

💼 Takeaways from the Master SMIB Business Trip to Dubai
📝 Angelo Jan Tanglao, student, Managing Digital Transformation and Innovation track, and Program Ambassador: https://bit.ly/3HUzuCj
In April, Master SMIB students had the opportunity to travel to Dubai to meet industry leaders and learn more about the local culture and business practices of the region.
Throughout the trip, students were able to:
➡️ Engage with different businesses to know more about their ways of working
➡️ Explore local attractions and get an immersion into the local culture
➡️ Network with SMIB alumni working in the region
➡️ Deliver solutions to business cases of partner companies
The business trip not only allowed us to build stronger friendships as a batch; it also gave us the opportunity to enhance our intercultural abilities by immersing ourselves in another culture. We were all impressed by the diversity of businesses we visited, as well as the caliber of their presentations.
We would like to thank the Master SMIB Dubai Organizing Team, Dr. Anne-Flore MAMAN LARRAUFIE, PhD, the ESSEC Alumni, as well as our partner companies L'Oréal, EY-Parthenon, 3M, Accenture, Richemont, Montblanc, Van Cleef & Arpels, CMA CGM, Natixis, Roland Berger, Sia Partners, Dataiku, IGI - International General Insurance Co. My name is Sri Vaishnavi Kalidindi, and I come from India. Growing up in Qatar improved my international mindset and global thinking. Furthermore, I completed my previous studies in Bachelors of Technology in Chemical Engineering. Thereafter, I worked as an HR intern at the Gulf Contracting Company in Qatar. During my work there, I learnt about handling circumstances across cross-functional departments and this made me realize my affinity for problem-solving. This experience motivated me to pursue a role that would help me be proficient in several verticals of business.
My passions? I have been a part of NGOs helping underprivileged children understanding the importance of oral hygiene and I also taught them cross-stitching through workshops. I’m definitely passionate about giving back to the society, helping others in need. It brings me the greatest joy and satisfaction.
• Why did you choose the Master SMIB?
I chose ESSEC to further my education because of the high educational attainment it delivers as well as the unprecedented worldwide exposure students receive by enrolling. The Master SMIB is distinguished by its hands-on teaching and learning-by-doing methodology. I understood that by working on real-world projects and corporate objectives, I would be better equipped to face the business world and would be able to make more sense of the experiences I would have been a part of. While theory is vital, this practical method to learning helps me to acquire skills one at a time by connecting with my surroundings.
• What are your plans after the ?
By choosing the Master SMIB, I was able to expand my comfort zone by emphasizing my style of thinking with that of my international colleagues. However, the most important skill I gained through the SMIB program was discipline. The ability to lead a team requires rigor.
After the SMIB, I want to work for a consulting business. In the end, I want to be in charge of the chemical consulting training area. I learnt how to create and improve customer loyalty, uncover new business potential, and contribute to development through the SMIB program.
