Since its inception in 2013, the 6-month masterclass will continue its new 9-month program for the second year in a row. After positive feedback from participants, we found that a nine-month masterclass is highly beneficial for many photographers, allowing them to move forward without haste in their respective projects. Nine months will allow naturally more time to reflect and assimilate the evolution of their research, its highlights and difficult moments, as well as their artistic and technical advances. Slowing down is essential to our well-being and our learning abilities. This is even truer today, when digital technology, while seemingly convenient, has accelerated our lives at every level, often leaving a taste of frustration. This 9-month period will also allow us to exchange and dialogue at greater length with others, marking important moments where we learn from each other and understand how each person evolves thanks to valuable testimonies.

Seems like only yesterday when we were in Arles. Diana is proud as always to show the work of diverse talents during her summer photo workshop « An Intimate Nature » in Arles . It’s been 15 years since Diana gave her first workshop in the longest running photo festival in the world. She thanks for their wonderful help, positive energy and constant presence. A word about the photo series by the photographer (translated from French) :

"Angelica, Estrella, Jessica, Maria, Melissa, Tily, Vanessa, these women left their country of origin, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, for a better life, to live freely in the land of human rights. 5, 10, 20 years later, we find them in their New World… the Bois de Boulogne. They are transgender, migrant and pr******te themselves in order to survive.

They keep themselves discreet, silent, enthroned in the front of their van parked in the alleys of the woods, or standing on the sidewalks. Dressed up like beauty queens, made up as if to go on stage, vertiginous breasts squeezed into a tight top.

Some work during the day, others at night, sometimes only on weekends, or even 7 days a week. When all is well. Because there are illnesses, assaults, fatigue, wear and tear, fines. And Covid has made things worse. The competition is getting tougher. Customers are rarer. Sometimes you have to wait hours in the cold before you see one, lower the prices "We have no choice: we have to eat well".

I started this series in January 2021 and for 18 months, several times a week, night and day, I went to meet them. It was by listening to their stories, by patiently transcribing them and translating them as faithfully as possible, by looking at their portraits again and again that the title of the series came to me: Las Reinas del Bosque.

Through this series of photographs, recordings and texts, I wanted to give another image of these women confronted with the night of men: Las Reinas del Bosque.

Last 2 days to go see one of our masterclass participants’ beautiful exhibition on a sensitive subject, s*x workers in the woods just west of Paris, the Bois de Boulogne.

Un mot sur la série :

"Angelica, Estrella, Jessica, Maria, Melissa, Tily, Vanessa, ces femmes ont quitté leur pays d'origine, l'Equateur, le Pérou, l'Argentine, pour une vie meilleure, pour vivre librement au pays des Droits de l'Homme.5, 10, 20 ans plus t**d, on les retrouve dans leur Nouveau Monde… le bois de Boulogne. Elles sont transgenres, migrantes et se prostituent pour survivre.

Elles se tiennent discrètes, silencieuses, trônant à l’avant de leur camionnette garée dans les allées du bois, ou debout sur les trottoirs. Parées comme des reines de beauté, maquillées comme pour entrer en scène, poitrines vertigineuses enserrées dans un haut étroit.

Certaines travaillent le jour, d’autres la nuit, parfois uniquement le week-end, ou encore 7 jours sur 7. Quand tout va bien. Parce qu’il y a les maladies, les agressions, la fatigue, l’usure, les amendes. Et la Covid a empiré les choses. La concurrence est de plus en plus rude. Les clients sont plus rares. Il faut parfois attendre des heures dans le froid avant d’en apercevoir un, baisser les tarifs « On n’a pas le choix :  il faut bien manger ».

J’ai commencé cette série en janvier 2021 et pendant 18 mois, plusieurs fois par semaine, de nuit comme de jour, je suis allée à leur rencontre. C'est en écoutant leurs récits, en les transcrivant patiemment et en les traduisant le plus fidèlement possible, c'est en regardant encore et encore leurs portraits que le titre de la série m'est venu : Las Reinas del Bosque.

A travers cette série de photographies, d’enregistrements et textes, j’ai voulu donner une autre image de ces femmes confrontées à la nuit des hommes : Las Reinas del Bosque.
