The Burlingame, California-based company was founded in 2014 as a Stanford University spinout. It makes a wrist-based wearable that uses electrical stimulation to temporarily relieve tremor symptoms. The study, published last week in Tremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, showed that electrical stimulation therapy delivered by Cala’s device, called Cala Trio, significantly reduces patients’ tremor with no loss of effect over time. Cala Trio works by delivering an electronic signal across the skin that goes from the fingers through the spinal cord up to the brain, Dr. Dhira Khosla, Cala’s medical director, said in an interview. The device’s band contains an electrical stimulator

How Entrepreneurs Can Capitalize on the Digital Healthcare Revolution
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. The internet of medical things (IoMT), which encompasses all the connected devices and software applications that anchor the global healthcare sector’s information technology infrastructure, is expanding at a staggering pace. Fortune Business Insights suggests that the global IoMT market will reach more than $187 billion in 2028, up from nearly $31 billion in 2021. This rapid expansion is a product of both circumstance and necessity. As in most other industries, recent events have dramatically accelerated digital transformation in healthcare. Given the physical distance between caregivers and patients, the remote sensors, telehealth platforms, health monitoring applications and various other technologies that were once innovative suddenly became essential. Now, this web of connected nodes generates much of the world’s data, and the share is

Council Post: Taking Care Of Our Health Should Be A Reflex: How A Former Big Tech Executive Believes We Can Transform Healthcare In America
Robbie is Chief Product Officer at 98point6, pairing deep technology with board-certified MDs to deliver on-demand text-based primary care. getty So often today, the moment someone has a concern or curiosity about their health, they turn to their search engine for answers. What they get back is a mess of unqualified, impersonalized and unhelpful or misleading medical advice. But, that impulse is understandable; the internet is where we go for answers for pretty much everything, even for our most pressing health concerns. The reality is there are so many barriers in traditional healthcare today; long wait times for appointments, not enough doctors in rural areas or inner cities and financial fear grounded in pricing opacity and excessive costs. The internet is not only a convenient resource; for many people, it may be the only resource.

There’s a big caveat in the telehealth expansion that Congress just passed
Congress passed its 2022 omnibus spending bill this week, expanding coverage of telehealth services under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services—a big win for telehealth companies and the more than 130 million patients who rely on socialized medicine. But some experts warn that as more telehealth services become covered by insurers, the government may lose interest in healthcare initiatives that get patients the most care for their dollar. The provision does a few things. First, it extends coverage for certain telehealth services under Medicare and Medicaid for 151 days after the pandemic-era public health emergency comes to an end in April. Second, it adds audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech pathology to its list of reimbursable telehealth services. Third, over the next year, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, an independent federal body that advises Congress on
