This is the first ever LifeinaBox !!!
In July 2019 we sold our first LifeinaBox to Mrs Beryl R… in the United Kingdom. This morning that very same device came back in for a Lifeina CarePlan service. But it was still a perfectly working device. I upgraded the firmware, changed the ventilation system to a more recent model, but all in all it has stood the test of time remarkably well. I was a little bit sad to send out my first device back into nature again, but I know that it will continue making the life of Mrs Beryl R… much easier. There is a French word called Saudade, which depicts the pang of the heart when it remembers a first love, a feeling of infinite nostalgia. That is what I felt when I saw my first LifeinaBox again.

Medication knowledge - AMGEVITA
Adalimumab, sold under the brand name Amgevita and others, is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug and monoclonal antibody used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, plaque psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and uveitis. It is administered by subcutaneous injection (injection under the skin). It works by inactivating tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα).

Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, pain at the site of injection, rash, and headache. Other side effects may include serious infections, cancer, anaphylaxis, reactivation of hepatitis B, new onset or exacerbation of demyelinating diseases (such as multiple sclerosis), heart failure, liver failure, and aplastic anemia. Use during pregnancy is not recommended, but some sources show use during breastfeeding may be safe.

Adalimumab was approved for medical use in the United States in 2002. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. In 2021, it was the 236th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 1 million prescriptions.

Medication knowledge - ROACTEMRA
Tocilizumab, sold under the brand name Actemra/RoActemra among others, is an immunosuppressive drug, used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a severe form of arthritis in children, and COVID‑19. It is a humanized monoclonal antibody against the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R). Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a cytokine that plays an important role in immune response and is implicated in the pathogenesis of many diseases, such as autoimmune diseases, multiple myeloma and prostate cancer. Tocilizumab was jointly developed by Osaka University and Chugai, and was licensed in 2003 by Hoffmann-La Roche.

Tocilizumab was approved for medical use in the European Union in January 2009, and in the United States in January 2010.

Medication knowledge - GLUCAGEN HYPOKIT
GlucaGen is a prescription medicine used to treat very low blood sugar (severe hypoglycemia) in people with diabetes and as a diagnostic aid during certain radiologic tests to temporarily stop stomach movement in adults.
GlucaGen contains an injection of glucagon, and works by triggering the liver to release stored sugar, raising blood sugar levels. It is injected under the skin, similar to how insulin is injected. Do not use GlucaGen if you have a tumor in the gland on top of your kidneys (adrenal gland) called a pheochromocytoma, you have a tumor in your pancreas called an insulinoma, you are allergic to glucagon or any of the ingredients in GlucaGen, or you have a tumor in your pancreas called a glucagonoma because it could cause low blood sugar when used for your radiology tests.
Glucagon is a medication and hormone. As a medication it is used to treat low blood sugar, beta blocker overdose, calcium channel blocker overdose, and those with anaphylaxis who do not improve with epinephrine. It is given by injection into a vein, muscle, or under the skin. A version given in the nose is also available.
Common side effects include vomiting. Other side effects include low blood potassium and low blood pressure. It is not recommended in people who have a pheochromocytoma or insulinoma. Use in pregnancy has not been found to be harmful to the baby. Glucagon is in the glycogenolytic family of medications. It works by causing the liver to break down glycogen into glucose.
Glucagon was approved for medical use in the United States in 1960. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. It is a manufactured form of the glucagon hormone. A generic version became available in the United States in December 2020.

Medication knowledge - CIMZIA
Certolizumab pegol, sold under the brand name Cimzia, is a biopharmaceutical medication for the treatment of Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It is a fragment of a monoclonal antibody specific to tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and is manufactured by UCB.

It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

Medical uses

Crohn's Disease
On April 22, 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Cimzia for the treatment of Crohn's disease in people who did not respond sufficiently or adequately to standard therapy.

Rheumatoid arthritis
On June 26, 2009, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued a positive opinion recommending that the European Commission grant a marketing authorisation for Cimzia for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis only - the CHMP refused approval for the treatment of Crohn's disease. The marketing authorisation was granted to UCB Pharma SA on October 1, 2009.

Psoriatic arthritis
On September 27, 2013, the U.S. FDA approved Cimzia for the treatment of adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis.

Medication knowledge - SIMPONI
Golimumab, sold under the brand name Simponi, is a human monoclonal antibody which is used as an immunosuppressive medication. Golimumab targets tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), a pro-inflammatory molecule and hence is a TNF inhibitor. Profound reduction in C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, interleukin (IL)-6, intercellaular adhesion molecules (ICAM)-1, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) demonstrates golimumab as an effective modulator of inflammatory markers and bone metabolism. Golimumab is given via subcutaneous injection.

It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the use of golimumab as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Golimumab was approved for the treatment by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2013 for the treatment of ulcerative colitis.

Golimumab is approved in Canada and the United States as a once monthly subcutaneous treatment for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
