Osuna: Along The Silk Road

For those with enough money, there are nowadays organised tours from one end of the Silk Road to the other. It's really just a question of time and money - and we have to accept that we're not seeing the same things today as Marco Polo was enthusiastic about in his day. For all those who prefer to stay rather than travel, this disc offers an alternative excursion.

It is a musical cruise, with the Mediterranean at one end and China at the other. We set off with three tour guides, Thomas Baeté for Europe, Emre Gültekin for Asia and Raphaël De C**k for harmony (and throat singing). I was surprised that we are not only travelling in space, but also in time, back to the Middle Ages, yet the sound is fresh and dust-free.



I understandably liked the tracks with throat singing the most, I was particularly impressed by 'Borbak Borbak', listening to which I felt like I was riding through Mongolian fields. "Paçarano" deserves extra points for the way the instruments of the different cultures were put together. And the encore "Spirit track" is an a ca****la song, the perfect ending to the journey. Of course, the other songs are not bad either, for example "Soğuk kuyu Zeybeği", which is reminiscent of Anatolia, could be the soundtrack to any Middle Eastern film.
